I was there...my god, it was an extraordinary performance. I found myself always changing channels whenever a Coldplay song would come on, but WOW did I come to appreciate Chris Martin this particular night. Search for his induction speech...it was SO GOOD!!! And his voice and heart were meant to duet with "The Angel Gabriel" on this song that night. What a rare TREAT to see/hear Peter Gabriel LIVE!
Peter still has such a beautiful, magical voice. I saw him in the 90's with Yousson, amazing show. So glad I came across this, he deserves this induction way more than most.
Two giants in my heart ... I am an Elvis Presley, Andy Williams and Mark Knopfler fan for 30-35 years now, so I love the right melody and keys, so I want to add Peter Gabriel and Chris Martin to my "I-love-list" ❤❤❤❤
He was nervous , there's a segment before this about living in Paris in his twenties and listening to this cd on and how much Peter shaped his career . Peter is definitely a giant amoung musicians
I once fell out of love with someone, someone who’s love defined me for 15 years…this album was the soundtrack of my heartache this track was so overwhelming, that even now that a decade has passed, every emotion I ever buried comes busting through the surface and I feel every bit of that loss. Peter provides such perspective thru his music the depth of his influence must reach untold depth. I can love because I went thru the process of undoing that relationship. It’s important that we do that. Music can provide emotional clarity in a time that we can’t see through the sorrow… the light of our love is there waiting on the other side of it. Renewed and Ready to be given whole to that next person, who deserves it unsullied by the past.
@@cvisenti No it's not. He had a marriage breakup before his relationship w/R. Arquette. The album is mainly about the entanglements of any relationship and their heartaches (if any). If you look at the credits for this album, you'll see he thanks Jill (his ex-wife) and Rosanne.
@@filmneye perhaps he credits Jill, but I didn’t make that up. I don’t have a stake in who he was most inspired by, but the source I had on that was the man himself, from an old VHS tape I have on behind the scenes of several of the videos from that album
Such a beautiful song and you can get so many meanings from it. I lost my younger Brother and played this at his funeral. He probably would have liked a ZZ Top song instead. RIP Eric-
At the beginning Chris sounds very „nasal“ but his voice „opens up“ (on search for a better word) during his last lines. This song is a showcase of the richness of harmonics and emotions in Peter’s singing voice. ❤
Fair play to Chris, loved his speech, but it's when you hear other people sing alongside Gabriel you realise the depth and power of Peters voice, he makes them sound like weak children in comparison, it must be the pure soul in him!
I was watching this induction ceremony when it originally broadcast .. I was watching mainly to see one of the other inducties when this performance began .. as Peter started the intro of the song and Chris began to sing the lyrics I became frozen in my chair as I listened to the words he was singing it was as if he was speaking about my life .. all the bad things I had done .. the drugs .. the stealing .. the lying .. the cheating .. and alot of other stuff to .. by the end of the song I was crying pretty heavily .. and I remember saying to my then girlfriend .. who is now my wife .. "this is the song I want you to play at my funeral" damn you Peter!! 😢
River, river, carry me on Living river, carry me on River, river, carry me on To the place where I come from So deep, so wide, will you take me on your back for a ride If I should fall, would you swallow me deep inside River, show me how to float, I feel like I'm sinking down Thought that I could get along But here in this water, my feet won't touch the ground I need something to turn myself around Going away, away toward the sea River deep, can you lift up and carry me Oh roll on through the heartland 'Til the sun has left the sky River, river, carry me high 'Til the washing of the water, make it all alright Let your waters reach me, like she reached me tonight Letting go, it's so hard, the way it's hurting now To get this love untied So tough to stay with this thing, â??cos if I follow through I face what I denied I'll get those hooks out of me And I'll take out the hooks that I sunk deep in your side Kill that fear of emptiness, that loneliness I hide River, oh river, river running deep Bring me something that will let me get to sleep In the washing of the water will you take it all away Bring me something to take this pain away
Amazing! I used to listened to this version when I was like 18-19 but the song wasn't complete and the audio not that good. Still I liked it very much. Thanks for uploading this in HD
No offence, but Gabriel has a far more superior vocal tone and range to Mr Martin. Remember Gabriel is 64 here, Martin is in his 30's. Listen to Gabriel in his 30's ........ It's not a competition anyway.
:11 Notice how PG has such mastery over his faculties & physical body when he has enough time to do something in his pocket (shut off his phone?) and keep playing his song w/o missing a beat!
I am a colossal fan of his early work, but don't care for anything after SO. Regardless, I love Peter and his music, he is a true genius. But he has lost his edge.
Listening to Chris sing “Washing of the Water” really shows how influential Peter Gabriel has been in his music.
Well said !
He's just younger and kills it!!

OMG how lucky are you !!!
Peter still has such a beautiful, magical voice. I saw him in the 90's with Yousson, amazing show.

I remember that time

Chris is great, but no one compares to that scratchy beauty that is GABRIEL
Yes and he's 64 here

It will be no surprise then to learn this whole album was his way of exorcising the agony of his breakup with Rosanna Arquette.

Amen 🙏🏼
As usually...perfect I ve been a fan of Peter Gabriel since the beginning with Genesis. Great guy
Peter Gabriel is such a fantastic song writer, and Chris sings it so well too.
Studio version is plenty good but this is a moving and unforgettable performance of this song. for me, the definitive statement.
This is great, but nothing compares to the Secret World Live version. ruclips.net/video/WbK-UFF6heQ/видео.html&ab_channel=TABU6987
The Secret World Live version is my fave...
🇺🇸
Why do I love this song so much. Thank you for the gift, Peter.

He's always nasal.
Still a decent singer though.
Those looks that they exchange at the end... ❤️ Magical performance
So beautiful. Chris is amazing and Peter, well , the best ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Was für ein toller Song ich liebe diese wunderschöne Musik danke Peter ❤️
It's art plain and simple it permeates you soul

What an awesome performance by these two mesmerizing artists, it would be so cool seeing them together in another gig again.
Only Peter Gabriel can sing with emotional almost breaking voice. I love “Here Comes The Flood” and this one is up there with it.
Two of the greatest daddys of melody
What a wonderful pairing of these 2 wonderful voices 💙 Love it so much❗
ABSOLUTELY GREAT 👏👏👏👏👏Song from Peter Gabriel and Chris Martin
Fantastic! Plus, I can't believe how Peter Gabriel sounds even better every time I hear his voice. Chris Martin did himself proud here.

❤️❤️❤️Peter Gabriel! One of the greatest artists, ever. No disrespect to Chris Martin of course. He’s good too.
Such an inspiration! Thanks!
just wonderful!
So magical.....so beautiful
Great melodies written by PG
River, river, carry me on
Living river, carry me on
River, river, carry me on
To the place where I come from
So deep, so wide, will you take me on your back for a ride
If I should fall, would you swallow me deep inside
River, show me how to float, I feel like I'm sinking down
Thought that I could get along
But here in this water, my feet won't touch the ground
I need something to turn myself around
Going away, away toward the sea
River deep, can you lift up and carry me
Oh roll on through the heartland
'Til the sun has left the sky
River, river, carry me high
'Til the washing of the water, make it all alright
Let your waters reach me, like she reached me tonight
Letting go, it's so hard, the way it's hurting now
To get this love untied
So tough to stay with this thing, â??cos if I follow through
I face what I denied
I'll get those hooks out of me
And I'll take out the hooks that I sunk deep in your side
Kill that fear of emptiness, that loneliness I hide
River, oh river, river running deep
Bring me something that will let me get to sleep
In the washing of the water will you take it all away
Bring me something to take this pain away
Beautiful song, I want this masterpiece to be played at my funeral.
Amazing! I used to listened to this version when I was like 18-19 but the song wasn't complete and the audio not that good. Still I liked it very much. Thanks for uploading this in HD
I love both of Dearly!!!!!
This is absolutely sensational from real musicians, Peter the inspirational Legend, Chris is a Legend in the making 💪💪💪💪💪💪
Not many people can outsing CM but PG still superb.lovely duet😊
No offence, but Gabriel has a far more superior vocal tone and range to Mr Martin. Remember Gabriel is 64 here, Martin is in his 30's. Listen to Gabriel in his 30's ........
It's not a competition anyway.
Wow. Utterly brilliant.

Wow.. this is absolutely beautiful.
Awesome!!
:11 Notice how PG has such mastery over his faculties & physical body when he has enough time to do something in his pocket (shut off his phone?) and keep playing his song w/o missing a beat!
It looks like he probably had his in-ear monitors muted and needed to switch them on. He got it done in the nick of time.
Beautiful
Beautiful.

Peter has that vocal pitch and depth you can listen to all day. The true voice of Genesis. Not Collins.

This sounds like PG meets Randy Newman
Chris Martin might have as much talent as a Peter Gabriel toenail clipping on a good day.im impressed by his snizz resume tho.
13 reasons why bring me here
Chris is messing it up.
I am a colossal fan of his early work, but don't care for anything after SO. Regardless, I love Peter and his music, he is a true genius. But he has lost his edge.
