I turned my stage III kidney failure around with a plant based diet. In fact, on a plant based diet I just lost over 100 lbs, cured CVD, stage III kidney failure, all 5 symptoms of metabolic disorder, peripheral neuropathy, and I cured diabetic retinopathy! I can see again and have an FAA waiver to fly my plane! It was once believed that every one of those chronic diseases were incurable. Let plants be thy medicine!!! 😁

I did the same thing. I was already very thin and exercised all the time. But having Ankylosing Spondylitis blocked all my arteries, and placed my kidneys in stage 3, and even 4 for a while. My diet was already quite good, and didn't really eat that many animal products. But it wasn't enough to counter the effects of my autoimmune disease. It also just kept fusing more and more vertebrae together. I then removed all animal products except eggs and fat free yogurt. That was still not enough to correct everything. Then I went full blown vegan, eating beans, greens, flaxseeds, chia seeds, hemp seeds, turmeric, garlic, meals built around veggies, and very low salt. In just under 3 months, my kidneys were back to normal, and all lab work was nearly perfect (when I struggled with several readings). I had taken beta blockers for 6 years, and stopped taking it after 4 months. It took a very strict diet for me, very low inflammatory, and very low in salt to achieve this -- but I was still pleasantly surprised! I hasn't unblocked my arteries, but what has done is correct endothelial dysfunction. Eggs and yogurt daily was enough to thwart most of my diet efforts due to TMAO. I am still hoping it can heal my
enthesitis in my achilles tendon, and tendons in both elbows. It's been 9 months total on this strict diet, so perhaps I will have success in the near future!

@@gb7168 Thanks for the input! Yes, I don't consume any oils or sugars, at least most of the time. For the first 6 months, I was perfect! Then I added Uncle Sam Cereal until I couldn't find it anymore, as a treat. I miss cold cereal, but can't really find any that are super low in sugar and salt! It is so sad just how unhealthy all the packaged food is!
Do you have soy or almond milk? Green Tea? Hibiscus Tea? If you are a fan of Greger, as I am, then you probably follow a similar structured diet. I learned most of what I follow from him! Do you have AS? Crohns? I am so happy to hear you have had success as well! Thanks again!!

High blood pressure from clogged arteries (arteriosclerosis) is to blame for kidney disease. Clogged arteries are occurring because of the buildup of animal protei and fat from animal products accumulating in the arteries. Medications for high blood pressure are also kidney destroyers. I’m 62. A close relative of mine recently had a kidney transplant after 30+ years of taking high blood pressure medication from about age 40.

Eliminate alcohol consumption, especially beer, if you do consume alcohol. Coffee (without milk or sugar) is a good thing to have in you diet if you have a tendency to get gout. You should also avoid sweetened drinks. Drink plenty of water. Look at low purine diet guidelines. Make sure you aren't eating foods that have niacin (B3) or vitamin A added. Many vegan products add vitamins, so read the labels.
Also, in general, there are unhealthy plant based diets, and very healthy plant based diets - try to land on the better end of that spectrum. A healthy plant based diet tends to improve blood pressure, and all sorts of blood markers. Abdominal fat, high blood pressure, high blood triglyceride levels and too high cholesterol levels are associated with a higher chance of getting gout.

How sodium intake didn't get even a mention in this CKD excerpt is wild; in case somebody with CKD watches this and thinks eating vegan without also axing their salt is going to have a chance of fixing things.
