It’s the one we all want. I love that track. I don’t know if it’s because the game is so epic. The fight is. But it will always stand out for me in gaming. He should do One Winged Angel too thinking about it
The first phase of the fight truly feels like a dance with those soft strings but the intense underlayer tells you how dangerous this dance actually is. Then when the choirs chime in, the dance is over and it becomes a fight with no holds barred. I really loved this boss fight, so thanks for reacting and breaking it down!
A lot of Bloodborne songs do use 3/4! I actually talked about this in a presentation on musical storytelling in video games. Don’t want to spoil any story beats, but there’s a lot of meaning in the music behind the use of 3/4 and 6/8 in songs. Ludwig’s theme transitions into 3/4, Laurence starts in 3/4 and turns into 6/8, and Cleric Beast is mostly 6/8.
I hope you will react to Living Failures OST from Bloodborne because it is amazing and indeed you are right that Lady Maria is composed by Yuka Kitamura.
By far the best soundtrack in fromsoft game, the fight itself is also beautiful, and after I learn her lore, the fight the music it all really represent her and her greatest foe, it's not us but herself.
I'd say Laurence and Living Failures' themes are the best ones, especially with their lore. Ironically there fights are probably one of the weaker ones in the game
@@lelianarochefort3077 with bloodbornes soundtrack even if you say some track is "the best" that basically just means its a bit better then the rest because they are all masterpieces^^
Lady Maria hides shameful secrets of her and the church. The song is a descend from solemnity to despair, from a hunter who fights to give you an "honest death" to someone who is willing to use the habilities and powers she promised never to used and considered to be "profane"
My favorite song in the entirety of souls, I cannot fathom how a song can sound so regal but so tragic, so elegant but so heartbreaking, so epic but so desperate. It goes insanely well with the actual boss’s story and is just a mastercraft of a boss theme.
You are right about the music fading out. The video you chose is most likely the audio straight out of the boss fight, rather than coming from the actual soundtrack. There was even an entire section missing right before the transition from phase 2 to 3.
UNTIL NOW IT WAS A DREAM BUT HE DID IT I'M SO HAPPY Lady Maria is my favorite boss in all the games I've played, and her theme is one of my favorite too !
I have been waiting for your reaction. This boss is my favorite in all of bloodborne and maybe even from all the dark souls. This boss is so magnificent. I think she is some of From softs best work
I think Lady Maria theme was the first stone of what the Ds3's soundtracks would be in the future, what do you think master? (Sorry for the bad English, love from Italy!)
Day 70 of requesting House of Sacred Remains from Castlevania: Lament of Innocence. Beautifully atmospheric track and one of my fave's from video games in general. It'd be awesome to hear what you think of it. It's the theme of a level set starting from a cathedral and ending in the crypts through lots of library areas, it's not a particularly significant or infamous level at all but I think the track really reflects the hallowed grounds housing sacred relics beautifully. The 4 minute upload from the Castlevania Sound Team is the one to listen to.
I would say it accurately portrays the excitement of the battle. I would say similarities to other songs in feel could be partially to express the character's relativity to who they're with and what they do as a deep/important role in it, but the later portions go better express the real "gloves are off now" as the attacks practically evolve in front of you, and they go their furthest out of line to fight you. The real "wall of chorus" toward the end I want to say is the player's suspense in it all and trying to stay in the fight by that point. The unique thing about this terrifying foe is that they are the missing puzzle pieces to what is one of the more gentle and sweet of characters we meet.
Even though it’s seems so grandiose, it’s very sad sounding track. Plus, another person reacted to this OST a few days ago and had the same take on the first 10-20 seconds of the track sounding a bit like the jaws theme. I think his exact words were ‘a shark stalking it’s prey’
Legend of Zelda: Breathe of the Wild - Monk Maz Koshia. It is a very intellectually constructed song with aspects from the whole game in the different facets of the song. Definitely reaction material
Unlike Ludwig and the other themes Lady Maria's theme is a true waltz, you really have to experience the battle to fully enjoy the dance. She is a classy lady after all, a waltz with her makes sense. And imao the choir drowns out the instruments a little too much at times, but I still find it to be a beautiful piece.
You must react to Red Sun from the game Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance! It has a catchy theme, and the lyrics describes a character so well you have to listen to every track in the game. Thank you!
Bloodbourne music vs Genshin…. Lol who the hell did you think would win. Myazaki hires professional highest tier composers Genshin uses computers for music, what did you think would happen
As someone who has only listened to the Bloodborne soundtrack (I don't have a PS4 or PS5), this particular theme was definitely not high on my favorites. The first section is amazing, but... the choir detracts extensively.
While this is one of my favorite Soulsborne songs ever, I'm not big on the upload you listened to. A lot of Lady Maria uploads condense and completely cut out the middle part of the song, which this one does, and I think that's a shame. Also the way this upload loops back into phase 3 at the end... ech I'm not a fan. Rather than a release of tension at the end of the song it just keeps it going. I think the RUclips username was dudewheresmyspoon or something like that, but imo he has the definitive Lady Maria upload on his channel.
I'm not a big fan of the choir in this one. It drowns out what I think is the best part of the track. I love that elegant, threatening dance-like music in the first part. P.S. Abyss Watchers from Dark Souls 3, pls. It's possibly my favorite piece from the Souls games.
First time i heard this and fought lady, i used the daggers and it felt like a dance, both of us slashing and avoiding eachothers attacks, favorite fight along with Ludwig and orphan of kos.
It's definitely harder with the Blade of Mercy, I used Ludwig's Holy Blade my first time I fought her, and you can just stagger her to death with it. It's more enjoyable with the knife
At the beginning Cello solo(the player) second pass the violin accompanies the cello in a duet (that’s Maria) a perfect dance of music and gameplay. The music changes when her health reaches about 60% Miyazaki has always done this, it’s a staples. And almost always the reason why a player looses this fight is not just the difficulty it’s the anxiety of the fight through the music. He is a genius!
Yes, it is Kitamura. Atlas will you react to a Elden Ring song? There are some new composers who worked in sound design in previous FromSoftware games.
Mighty Atlas, whenever you decide to start your Elden Ring's soundtrack journey, I endearly request if you could begin with Radahn's theme, I'm certain that it will blow your mind! I shall proceed my holy wandering, greetings from The Vooooooid 🌌🌌🌌
Wonderful analysis! I think what you said is very fair. I hope you play Bloodborne soon, though if you ask me, since you're traveling along Dark Souls play DS3 before BB.
If you want something to rock out to I'd recommend something from Jak X. the entire OST is full of adrenaline pumping music, and tracks as "Hybrid", "Whiplash" and "rev-up" are amazing but my recommendation would be the track "Ancient" as it best represents what the game is, a violent race to the death. Might not be too deep but a fun ride for sure
Well, not my favourite from Bloodborne, but it fits well with the boss fight. My favourite is Cleric Beast's, way better, this song IS Bloodborne!!! Thank you for the Breakdown as always! I enjoy and appreciate so much these videos!!!
Another OST from DS3 that's one of my favorites is the track of Pontiff Sulyvahn, there's just just something special about it when you hear the start right as right his church lol.
The wall of choirs at the end does sound a little messy but then the boss fight itself also gets messy towards the end (quite literally). The game also has a, somewhat smaller, theme of 'filth'. Ebriatas and Maria are both, in ways even us fans don't truly know why, related. If Yuka did do both of these OST, maybe this was to strengthen this connection.
Well, half of the song sound the same, it's WAAAH WAAH WAAAAAAAAH WAH WAAAH, you can barely hear the instruments, so i wonder why... Cool song and all, especially the beginning, but the rest of it sounds repetitive, there are bunch of tracks from this game that are severly underrated.
Never clicked like so fast! Finally this masterpiece x3 Thanks for your fabulous commentary on this~ Lady Maria is one of those fights that part of you doesn't want to win because the music is just so pleasant. Most people love Ludwig's battle theme more but this my favourite. Truly a waltz of death in its own right.

The timeline of bloodborn is based in the victorian era , hence the waltz type aproach that you mentioned in the video .
Yuka Kitamura has such a recognizable style, she really loves her strings, stacatto, and as you said the choirs, although those are in most FS osts.
