Stan Getz simply has so much class in his playing. Lush, elegant phrasing that’s just so appealing to the ear
"We'd all like to sound like Stan Getz if we could."
- John Coltrane
Wynton Kelly's piano solo is surely one of the most beautiful things created
Absolutely. Unfortunate that so many people get caught.up in the no other piano player except Bill Evans mindset.
Imo, Kelly is greatly underrated. Supremely sensitive [he was quoted in, I think, liner notes as saying he would be more than satisfied only to comp] but also a lyrical and inventive improviser with a bluesy feel. Between Evans, Peterson, or Tyner, it's in WK that I find most to admire.
@@pierstheoneandonly Totally agree!
Worth the transcription
確かにコルトレーンのブロウ スタンゲッツのトーン ウィントンケリーの嫌味のない演奏 バランスがとても素晴らしい Fantastick‼️
When I was a kid I thought this kind of music sucked. Now at sixty four I just love it and cannot understand what took me so long to appreciate it.
Your ear wasn't ready to receive this level of feeling yet ,that's all. Better late than never!
I have a similar story regarding Bill Evans Live at the Village Vanguard Featuring Scott LaFaro
sometimes you have to "train" your ears to appreciate jazz, especially, bop and avante garde.
I bought my first Jazz record a 78,Lionel Hampton when I was 16.
So first Kelly kicks me in the gut with that stunning piano solo...then Coltrane blows me a way and goes off in a way that only Coltrane could ever do it, leaving my jaw on the damn floor...and then Stan Getz with his perfect tone and intonation just tears my heart clean out of my chest. This is easily one of the greatest things I've ever seen and heard.
And the video is in black and white…all of it gorgeous. Peace.
Paul Chambers is in tears because Wynton Kelley’s piano solo was so beautiful. Damn
As an old timer jazz musician, I love this music so much. I would give anything to go back in time to be there in person.
I feel the same. 81 but still "performing" once in while. The future is behind us🍷
Young timer aspiring Jazz musician, this really is a serious beauty.
Jan Berings it’s not behind you! I’m a teenager and have grown up with a musician for a mother. She inspired me to play. You can inspire your kids, grand kids, heck, even your neighbors, to play this wonderful music.
This was the golden age of jazz. It will never be repeated as there will never be the Society necessary to produce these geniuses. Best we can do is form clubs with like minded guys to keep alive these golden days as best we can.
Some of the most beautiful piano playing ever. What tone, what chords, what feeling. What a great solo.
Perfect, isnt it.. for some reason, reminds me of Bill Evans.. subdued and brilliant playing at the same time
I always liked this kind of music, but now at 69 even more so. I hear the subtleties much better.
Je ne pourrais lire les commentaires en Anglais . Mais c´est vraiment de la trés bonne musique! Bravo !!!!
Wonderful! Coltrane and Getz together playing so lyrically...Wynton Kelly gordeous solo. A thing of beauty!!!
Two god tier Saxophone players. Thanks so much for posting
This is awesome! Trane and Getz together with THIS rhythm section! Jazz heaven! Love the way the lights are so low that the musicians seem almost silhouetted. Bravo!
It all just makes me want to cry.
Everyone has their own tastes and preferences, but it's still mind-blowing that I see 38 thumbs down for this. Well crafted medley played with beauty and feeling by 5 fine jazz greats.
Just glorious.
THIS IS ART IN MUSIC THANK YOU SUPERB.
So beautifully gorgeous....that words can't describe how sublime it all is. The playing is truly phenomenal and the camera work is fabulous.
The undercutting of Wynton Kelly & Paul Chambers is magic.
John Coltrane & Stan Getz's solos are breathtaking! artistry of this calibre will never be seen again.
Classy musicians. Jazz is such great music
A worthy video too of the greats!
beautiful
getz's tone is silky smooth
Always is !
Keeping the Lester Young flame alive, he was.
Truly soulful jazz!
Amazing and unforgettable touch and cadence on the piano. Just amazing!
Recorded on my dads 19th Birthday , Brian Jones was a big fan of all these musos and a fine jazz drummer himself
somewhere, in my pre-memory i knew something like this. could not have been older than 5 or 6. ALWAYS wanted to play saxophone. settled for clarinet a couple years later...
I literally was in a trance listening to this.. a few of the kings of jazz. Thank you.
sweet. watched it after I went to bed. What smoothing experience.
What a treat to see/hear Coltrane on a night off from Miles' group. Fantastic clip, thank you so much!!
Awesome :)
Wow such great music.two of the best saxophone players🎷🎷🎵👍

Another great masterpiece!
Marvelous !
Thank you so muchos forma this beautiful music...
I'm having trouble finding more Stan Getz music like this (with piano, bass and drums)
Stan and Johnny Smite ... Moonlight in Vermont album from the mid fifties. A classic
Johnny Smith
Autumn Leaves was playing when Daniel Larson got kicked out of the taxi for trying to pay with his medicaid card
Maravilhoso! Pura maravilha!

Geniales .....GIGANTES .....
How could I have missed this? So to be clear: Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers, 'Trane and Stan Getz all at one time? And exquisitely shot in total Film Noir lighting? Are you SERIOUS???
WOW!!
COOOOOLLLL
Dad's Theme I do thank you via John Coltrane & Stan Getz ✿¸.•'**☆🕺 🎼💖
Absolute Respect
maravilla, muchas gracias, dad's theme
ALL the jazz😄bom demais.👏👏👏👏🤟
아 너무 좋네요,,
Wynton Kelly’s “I only have eyes for you” phrase at 0:30 😮💨
Qué JOYA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so sweet
Stan Getz ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
prelijepo nice
I play this medley but substitute My One and Only Love instead of Moonlight in Vermont. It works out nicely.
Miles should have sat out more often ;)
You have to remember that WK didn't like to soloing at all. He was forced by Miles, among others to do so. A lesson to bunch of clowns who think they got something to say.
Thanks for sharing, I didn't know this. Miles Davis really pushed and mentored so many amazing musicians
@@alexandria8373 That ability to challenge and push musicians is even greater than his playing , which is something.
❤❤❤❤
Sublimely beautiful. You can see Oscar Peterson come in at the end to take over for Wynton Kelly at the piano to perform "Hackensack" with the group. You can see it here: ruclips.net/video/beCGdmrP8Xc/видео.html
Man, I love them all dearly but Kelly's solo is simply arresting and stunning. I'm tired of Autumn Leaves but that's of the few renditions of it that doesn't sound cheesy and cliché as most tend to.
That's because it's being played by the most remarkable musicians that have ever walked the planet.
2:28, What do you think guys? Wrong note that somehow becamce right?(he made it major instead of minor for a second) or a masterfull mind of a genius?
(I'm pretty sure) the II-V back to the top there is major. Trane is playing the 9 of the II chord. Nothing wrong happened there.
Absolutely amazing! Is this concert available on cd/LP as well????
is this in any album? or are they only video?
What song is Wynton Kelly's piano solo at the beginning? What's New?
Matt Benn autumn leaves
Wavez Productz that is not autumn leaves. He plays a totally different chord proggression
Erik Jernberg that is autumn leaves, he’s just subbing some half step ii-vs
@@1998XBOX It is autumn leaves. Its called a reharmonization. 😎
I don't think it's autumn leaves, the chord are different and the melody just barely resembles it for the first few notes... Maybe he's just playing a cool introduction?
Oscar Peterson takes over at the piano
So what do I do dance or dance..
Does anyone have the transcription of the piano intro?
This is called what’s new , not other
二人の音質の違いがよく分かります🎷
個人的にはスタンの方が好きですが…
Too bad Stan Getz didn't get any help on Moonlight in Vermont or I'm sure we would have heard a beautiful thing
zee germans know how to make zee gut video and zound of zee jazz muziker
weill zee haben zee REZPEKT for the form and the players, yo. i aint even lyin
und they have die fookin tekkie guys and spent big Deutschmarks on zee good camera und mikrofons German jazz television rules dude.
cringe
Notice the piano players change at the end... and the next one tunes up with the Windows crash sound haha
Sighs.
Its funny to see Kelly playing that beautiful piano sitting in a cheap plastic chair.
Don't waste your money on those spiral ear thingies they're useless!
It was the cools hayday, and No better to represent that era than John coltrane et all including stan getz WHO is a bit overrated
Excuse me.did you really say over rated ? No one has such a tone.no one.coltrane himself said we d all sound like stan getz if we could
I hate the sound of saxophone. Something is always stuck in it. Unnatural sound of Metal and wood. It's Always uncomfortable to listen to.. I really love the piano of Mr. Wynton Kelly anyway
Serjeant Gunny WT fook ?
I hate you
@@BooboosbirthdayI meant exactly that.
Orange colored sound, a thick noodle sound, I don't like it. It's awkward and unnatural to me
Thank you so muchos forma this beautiful music...
