  • Hey guys! Hope ye are well - it's been a couple of weeks. My sister was home from America so we took some time off to spend with her since it will be a couple of years before she'll be home again.
We got silage cut and in the pit in the meantime. We have one pit covered with tyres and one pit with a cloth/ratchet system. This video isn't sponsored in any way. We purchased the system ourselves before silage last summer. Some of you might have seen us taking it apart during the winter when feeding the cows.
Really hope ye enjoy the video. Please give the video a thumbs up if ye do and hit the subscribe button to follow along.
    Thanks again for watching!
    Lots of love,
PK, MK, Baby K & Freya xx

If ye use clingfilm as the first sheet on the pit it trap the heat in very well and gets good silage out after it

Super system, lots of room for machinery manoeuvring etc. do you think no roof is a problem during the cold wet winters when you are rolling cover back? I know a guy who removed one wall of a silo, built 30 years ago, during a modification project. He was alarmed to discover that all the vertical rebar had completely rotted away at the base of the wall due ingress of the effluent over the years. The last silo I got poured had a raised base on the floor where the walls were to be poured and the walls were poured on top of this, meaning no effluent can escape from the floor to under the wall. Did you ever consider using asphalt on the floor for longevity. Finally, would your wagon men not consider driving over the silage in the pit when unloading, to speed up levelling etc. Very impressed with your forward planning and growing your enterprise. Viewing from Co. Armagh. Thanks again.

Have you tried using tire sidewalls instead full tyres? Makes it easy to move
