Hi Nephi, the great fun factor of this Dutch tv program is that they put all these established Dutch singers together! It's not really a competition. Although it started out this way. That didn't work. So now it's just a way of impressing each other. Something they all love to go for! Although for the people watching the program, the singer in the spotlight needs to clarify wich performance they loved the best of that evening. And it's not necessary to sing a song composed or performed by the singer sitting mainstage. In this case she does. She sings her first attempt of a song in Spanish! Not just for Rolf, but also for her enormous group of fans in South America. She and the others have one week to prepare. The grinning guy (Rolf) is the original composer and singer of this song. He's half Dutch and half Dominican. He's known for singing in Spanish and this particular song reached number one for 8 weeks in the Latin-American charts. However his original version is a Latin salsa song. So you see the artists involved have the freedom to do what they want with the original song. They can also sing their songs in another language (typical in Dutch or English - something that suits them). Also the singers will have to get out of their comfort zone, because the group always consists of singers of different genres! They can evade difficulties by singing songs that are not by the singer in the spotlight. But songs that are important to them! For example the song in German by Floor, performed by here in a video you already commented on and in wich the elderly man (Henk - opera singer) was sitting mainstage was not his,, as you might thought was the case in your video. No it was a song that his mother sang to him, when he was young! Wich is beautiful on it's self. So you see this tv format is fantastic and needs to be implemented in all countries around the world! Floor Jansen was not known by the majority of the Dutch people. Wich is crazy! Because she currently is the highest grossing artist of the Netherlands with the Finnish band Nightwish! Metalheads around the world love her. And the Netherlands have more phenomal metal-singers and bands. Too bad the metal genre is not well established and recognized in this country. It just doesn't get airtime on the radio, for example. However this tv program has finally earned her recognition in the country she grew up in (she now lives in Sweden). A tv format like this, in a nice comfortable surrounding, will do that to you everywhere around the world! The difference, in general, between this program and others (Voice, AGT etc.) is the competitive nature / or lack of it. These people have sung all their lives and went to school (conservatory) for it. Yet nobody knows them, because they just haven't heard them. Not to say those other pragrams can't produce talents. The fact of the matter is these are all already talents/stars and we all should hear for ourselves!

Would be hard for Amy to handle all the register that Floor operates.. and you haven't heard her going raspy and even growling yet.. don't know really why people get this similarity with Amy Lee..?!! If you listen to Floor's band ReVamp and the song Disdain (Floor in metal beast mode) you will remember forever that Amy doesn't anything to do with Floor ..
Well, people most often find Floor through GLS and in the beginning there are certain similarities with Amy's style. That song alone should make them doubt their first impression, but the more they hear the more evident it becomes that you can't compare those two. And I love Evanessence and Amy, so I'm not taking anything away from her, they're just so different. And to be honest I don't think there's many (or any?) other female singers alive that can handle the variety of styles that Floor does.

Nephi, I loved you reaction! You are obviously a man who appreciates great vocal talent. One of the biggest draws to the Amazing Floor Jansen (pronounced Yansen) is the fact that she loves to sing heavy metal/hard rock music. Symphonic metal is already a very powerful style of music, but when you add the vocal ability of Floor Jansen to that mix it takes it to another level. They not only play heavy music , but also various other styles. They simply make great music not sticking to heavy metal only! This is very unusual for a metal band. Most metal heads will not accept a band that doesn't stick exclusively to all metal all of the time. Also most metal singers are men and they focus more on power and aggression as opposed to quality of their voice. You have seen Ghost Love Score and a couple of songs that are outside of the box. We Nightwish fans would love to see you experience one of Floor's incredible heavy metal performances such as "Ever Dream", "Romanticide", or "Story Time" all from the live Wacken 2013 show. These are all shorter songs and not one of their longer epic songs.

Nice reaction with such an humble opinion from you too. The original song is in salsa kind of music and Floor said that it's completely out of her comfort zone. This is one of her biggest challenge to performed it live and singing in Spanish for the first time, but she nailed it with her singing style and great job for the re-arrangement from the band as well.
You really should react to "Nightwish - The Poet and the Pendulum (live at Wembley)". It's probably Nightwish's masterpiece, a rollercoaster of emotions. And Floor doesn't just sings there... she truly interprets, it's almost like acting. Really, you will love that one!

This state of Holland was the leading state in the young country after the war that took 80 years. Most of the pioneers came with a fleet of ships from Holland. That's why Holland is more known. Because the other provences/states thought Holland was to powerful, they broke it up into 2 separate provences. The Netherlands were initially meant for The Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg when it used to be 1 country. After the split up in 3 countries on The Netherlands kept that name. People in the west of the country prefer Holland, but the rest prefer The Netherlands as they claim, that it 's not just Holland (North and South) that represents the country. So although Holland is more known, it is actually incorrect (or incomplete). That's why it is The Netherlands (translated as the low lands).

Don't feel bad my friend...she's got bigger arms and shoulders than a lot of us lol. She is, no exaggeration, the real life Wonder Woman, built from the ground up to be able to sing the way she does. And, as you mentioned, her aura & stage presence are as awesome as her vocal skills.

From tonight i'd suggest Tim, Emma and Henk, as the songs to at least check out, Tim did a Nightwish song, Emma a After Forever song, and Henk did "the sound of silence" in the style of Disturbed. (Edit* Also.. the Dutch invented the letter R, we can toss that Mother into any word, any place, easy! :P)

He is an opera and musical singer and because of Floor (the evening was to honor her music) he sang it in a metal-rock kind of cover. I love your reactions. First, the technical explanations are great but I love your real fan reaction as the song progresses and despite the critical ear you truly enjoy the song itself which is great. So she sang an aria in German, a Folk/Pop song in Dutch and now a Salsa song in Spanish (done for the singer and all her South American fans who are crazy for her). I have heard her sing in Finnish, English, Swedish and Italian as well. I swear there is no genre she can't conquer if she puts her mind to it. Legendary. Floor, a Dutch given name for girls as well as boys, derived from the Latin florere, meaning "to be with flowers, to bloom".
Simpler than that, derived from Latin Flora. English Flower, French Fleur and Floor are all derived from that.

Hey Spoon. I was wondering what's the difference? Being a German, I was using "Holland" and "Niederlande" as synonyms. But I heard "Holland" might not be political correct. Can you enlighten me?
@@itsjollylumpkin2402 Holland used to be the name for what we now know as North and South Holland (2 provences). This state of Holland was the leading state in the young country after the war that took 80 years. Most of the pioneers came with a fleet of ships from Holland. That's why Holland is more known. Because the other provences/states thought Holland was to powerful, they broke it up into 2 separate provences. The Netherlands were initially meant for The Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg when it used to be 1 country. After the split up in 3 countries on The Netherlands kept that name. People in the west of the country prefer Holland, but the rest prefer The Netherlands as they claim, that it 's not just Holland (North and South) that represents the country. So although Holland is more known, it is actually incorrect (or incomplete). That's why it is The Netherlands (translated as the low lands).

Don't feel bad my friend...she's got bigger arms and shoulders than a lot of us lol. She is, no exaggeration, the real life Wonder Woman, built from the ground up to be able to sing the way she does. And, as you mentioned, her aura & stage presence are as awesome as her vocal skills.

As i am sure you have the avro/tros channel added to your favorites, i'd suggest look at today's episode, tonight they honored Floor Jansen, few unexpected song choices by the singers, but a great evening for sure.
From tonight i'd suggest Tim, Emma and Henk, as the songs to at least check out, Tim did a Nightwish song, Emma a After Forever song, and Henk did "the sound of silence" in the style of Disturbed.

Henk Poort is a very sweet and soft man and because his opera background he really needed lessons to be able to sing this raw version. (growling is a big no-no in opera). And if you want to see how he became famous in the Netherlands, here is a movieclip of one of his iconic roles: the phantom. After song "Mama" came out, my first (or fifth, four first thoughts were just how amazing she is...: ) thought was that, what if Floor would have done that performance in Eurovision Song Contest... That would have fit there well...
The Eurovision song contest isn't really an honest contest, imo. Too often that neighbouring countries are giving each other the maximum amount of points.

I love your reactions. First, the technical explanations are great but I love your real fan reaction as the song progresses and despite the critical ear you truly enjoy the song itself which is great. So she sang an aria in German, a Folk/Pop song in Dutch and now a Salsa song in Spanish (done for the singer and all her South American fans who are crazy for her). I have heard her sing in Finnish, English, Swedish and Italian as well. I swear there is no genre she can't conquer if she puts her mind to it. I believe she is on the couch next week but I know Jazz is on the menu and I have seen Floor do Jazz (Slow,Love, Slow {ruclips.net/video/Ol9VbuKKZ5U/видео.html}) so I expect she'll burn the set down (LOL). After that I think Punk but not sure and of, course if there is a RAP song I would pay to see Floor do RAP!!!! We call her the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal a/k/a the Dutch Dynamo for her work with Nightwish which LIVE is truly something to behold!!
