The 4-mag pouches for the AK-74 were for 30-round magazines. For the RPK-74, there were also bags for 4 magazines, but for 45 (not 40) cartridges. They still had a shoulder strap. I say this from my own experience, because during my service in the army, my weapon for some time was the RPK-74. You are right but, I’ve seen some images of what appears to be VDV paratroopers with a GP5 bag. It could be a different one but I thought it was worth mentioning and I’ve heard some other people say the same thing.

Y straps were rarely used by Soviet forces in Afghanistan. They were really only used by DRA troops.
Yes. It was mostly used in the early war but I still found it worth mentioning.
