This video looks at how to do gearbox and drive shaft seals on a 2008 Audi A3 1.4 Turbo petrol you need to keep an eye on the seals as they do leak and if left too long you can do a lot of damage to your gearbox when it runs low on oil and can't even see the gears the Seals are not expensive but it does take a long time to do lots of stripping please like share and subscribe check out our new forum room don't forget get your hands dirty
I have to do this job this week, alongside replacing the inner cv joint from one side (alongside its ripped boot) and the outer cv joint from the other side (also because of a ripped boot). I like that in your videos you actually show the real struggle and the headaches some jobs can give.
thanks my dear I have become a little mechanic by just watching your videos lol. keep the videos coming. hope you do a vw or audi gearbox video soon lol
Thanks for the helpful video. Do i need to drain the transmission oil for this job? Or refill?
A trick I lernt when doing this on my old octavia from an ex vw mecanic is to use a 600mm extention and do them from outside the wheel. not sure if you have access on the a3 looks tight for space.
yes mate you can I have a set of three of them but most people will not have them so I was just showing how you would do it the normal way as these tools I kind of specialist tools and not cheap so the average person would not need to buy them
+bodgit and leggit garage I hear you. teng do a lovely skinny extentention for 3/8 which is a handy edition to your tool box. Nice video mate!
hi B & L garage,
thanks for the vid!
a simple dumb question: why do we need grease in a place that is fixed by bolts since the axle will turn with the end-shaft of the gearbox?
i am missing some thing
Farid,
cheers bro!
Hi. I have a 2007 a6 2.0 tdi that I think the seals have gone. Is that similar process? I can’t find anything showing this
very informative videos I love em all of them
+Mumtaz Zafar thanks mate and thanks for watching get your hands dirty

I just changed the clutch on my golf and had to remove the driveshaft cup to get the gearbox out/in. Now I can't get that cup the whole way in. It's literally got a few mm to go but won't
i've to do this tomorrow, you saved me a lot of head scratching, thank you! PS let me know if you can still do a job for me, Sligo man (it's a nice job for content creation if that matters)
hi mate I completely forgot to be honest had a lot on my mind you will have to message me again on Facebook or email me
Junkyards need this car . Let's be honest about it when it comes to this brand of cars etc piss pore comes to mind.
I have the same problem with my audi a3 1.9tdi drive shaft seal is leaking from the driver side. I am sure this video is going to help me a lot. just wondering do you really have to drain gearbox oil and if yes can I use the same gearbox oil to refill
yes you do have to drain it the reason I didn't straight away is because the car lost a lot of fluid and yes definitely replace it with new fluid it will definitely be better with new fluid a waste of time and money to put the old fluid back as you can damage your box
Thanks dear
+Mumtaz Zafar anytime mate glad I can help
Very helpful video. Thanks.
That fucking bird's back!!!! Shoot it.
Nice job
+Paul F thanks mate and thanks for watching get your hands dirty
I'm struggling to find this part number for my 2006 A3 3.2 quattro DSG. What is the correct name for this seal? Thanks
Did you do the job yourself?
I will do this at my a3 2009, its leaking the seal om the right wheel, the seal part will arrive nrxt week can i use my car 1 week more with the leak??
Hi mate the problem is you don't know how long it's been leaking for what you need to do is check the level first if the level is ok yes you can use it if not top it up would be very careful
Good job brother , oh I love a good gearbox seal job lol
