    Great timing.. I've just discovered this channel and marathoned through this project. Glad to see another episode out.
    Edit: I've upgrade my e-bike from 8 PAS to 12 and it's been great. But this project is so well made that it should have a torque sensor. I hope the fixed chain tensioner won't be a problem in high speeds.

    • @TheAfricanGarage
      @TheAfricanGarage Месяц назад +2

      A spring tensioner would be much preferred. I've had issues with the primary chain on my ebike when running at high speeds, Until I installed a spring tensioner .But with his short chain run, and dead on alignment , it shouldn't be too much of an issue, I hope.
      Also, I 'm not sure this bike is gonna be very fast. The gear reduction is just too much. Unless he goes up to 72v and also rewires the motor from Star to Delta. He's gonna be crawling , but with massive torque

    • @daniityourself
      @daniityourself  Месяц назад +1

      @@ssenssel I already had the threaded freewheel crankset for ISIS axle (and also a torque sensor with square taper). To avoid buying new cranks with square taper I decided to mount a pas. Maybe in the future I will purchase what is needed to mount the torque sensor..

    • @daniityourself
      @daniityourself  Месяц назад +1

      @@TheAfricanGarage The chain line is very precise and with the gear reduction the bike reaches a maximum of 30 km/h (36v battery).
      In 2000 km travelled, the chain tensioner has never had any problems..

    • @daniityourself
      @daniityourself  Месяц назад +1

      I think I only adjusted the chain trender once in 2000km..(the black motor in the photo at the end of the video has 2000km). Anyway, thanks for the advice, they are always great ideas to improve.

    Cool project!
    Did you find any benefit wheelhub vs this mid or what drove you to this project ?
    I would think a wheelhub to be a bit more efficient and perhaps less noisy ?
    If you have the means you could try to make a front+rear hub bike ?
    The challange would be to spin the motors at the same time.
    Anyways don't stop tinkering.

    • @daniityourself
      @daniityourself  Месяц назад

      @BrainHurricanes
      Hi, thanks for the comment and questions.
      In the past I have had both front and rear hubs on my bikes but I have always felt the lack of a gearbox to make the best use of the motor in the mountains. Of course, I could have bought one already made, but I like DiY...
      The Mid motor has many benefits, it balances the weights better, you can quickly remove the wheels in case of puncture or to put the bike into the car.
      For example, to parity of controller (normal power 250-500W peak), on a 10% slope, the motor hub (with standard windings) will lose efficiency as the speed decreases and will develop much more heat.
      The mid motor, by using a more agile gear ratio, will be able to maintain the ideal rpm for optimal electrical performance.
      On the other hand, the wheel hub motor is certainly less noisy (compared to a chain system like mine) as it has fewer moving parts. It also requires less maintenance on the transmission chain, pinions ecc.
      Regard the 2WD bike, in my opinion it doesn't make much sense for normal use (2 motors=need more current=larger battery and more weight)... There are controllers made for using two motors at the same time and there should be videos on RUclips if you search "2WD e-bikes"
