I am studying Law and I have been putting off watching Public Law lectures for 3 weeks now! Because I struggle to comprehend them as soon as I heard ' the treasure you seek is hidden in the work you're avoiding' my whole mindset changed and I thought to myself, how true!!

I was listening to a podcast that said, “it’s important to live life by design rather than emotion. Basically, sticking to a routine is what allows us to be the healthiest version of ourselves (especially when you're fighting these demons ex. OCD for me).
I made the most healthy+lasting changes in my life when I began practising mediocre consistency. Now I try to put in consistent 40-60% effort into my habits (ex. journaling/working out) - to make sure I do it I began recording it and posting it on my youtube channel.
Because historically I have a habit of going too hard, not being able to sustain the Herculean effort, giving up and hating myself. So now I’m trying to give a small-ish, consistent mediocre effort everyday. And its crazy how it adds up.
Yeah, good idea, and routines to some extent help.
I've just had one of those strange coincidence moments when I read your comment! I've been setting lofty goals for a while and ending up disheartened, so today I sat down and wrote a simple goal to regulate my sleep routine, take regular exercise, eat well, stop procrastinating, and stop wasting time on trivial nonsense - social media and games.
I've given myself six months to achieve consistency over an unbroken period of at least four weeks, so I can focus on each area at its own speed without attempting to make several major changes overnight. (and failing!)
My reasoning is that I need to establish a solid foundation of productive habits and routines before I can seriously attempt more ambitious goals - get the basics right first.

@@Stew282 it really makes sense, for the past 4 months I have been making simple 1 % improvements like exercising ,sleep, eating habits and study habits now I can see enough progress that further motivate me to continue. I highly recommend you to read atomic habits by James clear . This book is amazing read to study about habits and self improvement. P.S sorry for my bad english 😅
Very clever! "Write in the comments one thing you've been procrastinating on and what you're going to do about it" - isn't that going to commit us (in writing too!) to take the action? It's a public statement that could be read by others, so it sets up a commitment to do it. Thank you so much, Jim. I have several important issues I've been procrastinating on and this will help me to move forward. A great, actionable video with no "filler" material or waste. That makes for such a good investment of my time.
I am reviewing for my board exam and i find myself always putting it off and do other things, then i become anxious about it and do other things. It's an endless cycle. Thanks for this, Jim!
I’ve been putting off the clutter of newsletters, magazines etc on and near my desk for weeks. I have a sign that sits on the top shelf of my desk that reads” I dreamed my whole desk was clean”. It is time for me to make that dream come true! Thx, Jim!

I've been procrastinating over a proofreading course I've been taking for over 4 years. The course can be completed in as little as 3 months, but never let someone with ADHD roam free with zero deadlines (the course is designed to be done in your own time bc it's a brand new skill set and everyone is different in how long it will take to figure it out. Something I only realized recently.)
School has been the biggest albatross around my neck and I've punished myself for not doing my work by not reading for fun, bc I knew that if I had the time and will to enjoy a book, then I should be reading for school. This only led to mental wreck and ruin, which I realized far too late. I dug myself into a deep hole, and I am now grasping the rope and slowly pulling myself out.
As to what I'm going to do about this:
I have set a reminder for noon everyday to turn on my iPad and open the app I use for school. That's my micro-commitment. I know that if I do that, I will begin to read and correct my practice transcript.
I won't be beaten by this course. I've failed two midterm attempts, so I've been very discouraged recently, which has tempted me into procrastination again. This time though, I am going to defeat this. I am going to keep working and I am going to finish this. My why is all the way over in Sweden, waiting and cheering me on. He deserves this, and so do I.

I always procastinate making important phone calls (which my mother really wants me to do), because I am always scared I will say something wrong. Who cares anyways about what I say lol... I guess that is my way to overcome procrastinating this: caring less about what others (negatively) think about me. Thank you for your video Jim!

Empecé tarde un curso para la Mejor Universidad de mi País, tengo mucho con que ponerme al corriente. Pero entre lo emocional que eso conlleva sueño procrastinar bastante, la cosa es que tengo tiempo, solo tengo que aprovecharlo, no verlo simplemente pasar. Tengo dudas pero en el fondo se que es Muy posible lograrlo, y eso también me aterra y es por eso que debo hacerlo. No dejar el tiempo pasar es lo que haré, voy a aprovechar cada hora y cada momento no solo estudiando si no también logrando que mi vida este equilibrada para que lo que estudie sea provechoso, pero no perder más tiempo, si ya me organize, entonces me esforzaré para seguir al pie de la letra esa organización aún con todo el trabajo extra que eso involucre solo al principio. Lo voy a dejar Todo.

I've been meaning to freelance my vocals to anybody needing a singer/songwriter, but everytime I have to record showcasing videos of my talent i revert to my detrimental defalt routenine. Starting in my case would be learning songs that are perfect for a preview (for the international community) of my voice and recording videos to upload on freelance platforms. This is Where my treasure is and I'm not putting it off anymore

Studying is one of the actions I've really been putting off ever since I got to both basic and second cycle. However, I'm going out these guidelines to work and focus as I'm supposed to be
Memorizing the entire Holy Quran and improving all aspects of my life, religious, spiritual, health, wealth, happiness, psychological, scientific, professional, financial, relationships, and contentment.
I have a restricted license with a breathilizer, and I’ve been eligible to do the process for 3 years now. Covid didn’t help but still I’ve been procrastinating. I find that I think about what I need to do when I’m in no position to do those things at the moment but when I have time I’m not even thinking about it. I’ve begin to take little steps like you say. I plan on continuing the momentum
Thank you, Jim! Whenever I feel reluctant to text people about something, I just imagine throwing a ball to them by typing, "Hello, (name)! How are you doing?" then copy and paste it (with different names), and throw the ball to the others. I don't want to keep the "ball". When they throw the ball back at me, I throw it back to them. And it's done. 😁

Thanks! Is there a concept around the phenomenon of procrastination that suggests the more stuff you have on your plate, the more likely you are to procrastinate on all of them. I often feel like the more I need to do, more likely I am to not do any of it lol. Like building a sink full of dishes, or a pile of laundry, etc.
I mean, I feel like it’s a human thing to be more intimidated by bigger tasks lol
But that’s why they say “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”, no? The best step toward avoiding those giant roadblocks is to probably not let them exist in the first place :)

I finished my master’s degree recently and I’m in the job hunt phase now. It’s overwhelming and I often end up doubting myself, worrying about outcomes, and eventually, just procrastinating the application process which makes me feel even worse about myself! Buying a new truck is overwhelming because I don't know anything about them. It's a big purchase and I'm fearful I'm going to make the wrong decision so I don't even want to look. It's in my planner but I avoid it. Today I will look at just one truck. If it produces nothing, I will have at least done something.

Jim...I need help. I was hit by a car and I have brain damage. It's nearly like having dementia. But strangely, I am in 3 schools and on the honor roll. I have just taken an exam that requires 6 months of study and I passed in 5 days. I find it difficult to recall the information and/or start the projects. I am an older student btw. My doc said the best thing I can do is to learn. Learn. Learn. To rebuild those neuro pathways. It's just starting....
I am studying for a cert exam. I need to pass this within a week to 2. I know my brain can handle this. I'm getting started, NOW!
