Interesting timing. I just replaced an old (2007) very deep 15 degree 3-wood with a newer low spinning 5-Wood. Specifically the Mizuno ST-G. I turned it to 17* and it’s been a cannon. Very high flight that spins very nearly a 3-wood and nips at my drivers heels. I will 1000% always suggest an ST-G 5-wood.

I’ve been playing a 4 wood for two years, and it’s a game changer!
My pro told me to ditch my 3wd two seasons ago and put a 5wd in my bag. I went for the ping 5wd with 16.5 degrees which is strong for a 5. It changed my game completely, so easy to hit from tee or fairway and I hit it almost as far as my old 3wd but much more reliable.
Spot on review! I have both the 2023 Callaway Big Bertha 16* 3-wood and the Titleist TSR2 16.5* “4 wood” and both work well. The Callaway is a little better off the fairway because the bottom of the clubhead is more flat and wide and doesn’t catch the turf like the Titleist does. Off the tee both are comparable but Callaway is slightly longer distance wise.
Would be nice to compare against TM QI 10 Max 3 wood which is 16 deg

I adjusted my 3 wood to a 4 wood last year .took my 5 wood out of the bag.
How is this different than the std 3-wood with loft sleeve turned to 16.5*? This is particularly true of my TSi 3 that I used to play at 16.5, although now have settled to 15.75 due to tendency for excessive spin in >3700 range. The TSi tends to sit quite square at A1 setting but at B3 and A4 setting, both 16.5*, it sits a bit open at address. I currently play at C3, 15.75* and .75 upright due to shorter 42.5” length. I like the bit open face both to guard against the dreaded left shot but also improved launch while keeping spin

Question; With a smaller height club is the sweet spot smaller or just more right to left as opposed to up and down?
The shallower face lowers CG, improving launch capability. Forgiveness depends upon what engineers do with the mass reduction of shallower face. Did they just reduce height or did they make a head with larger footprint? Could make head longer heel to toe, which can help with forgiveness depending upon face design and if they added tungsten to sole, like is TM design. The other option is to displace the height by adding depth front to rear which typically improves MOI, resulting in improved forgiveness from twisting on heel-toe misses.
There is no magical ‘improved forgiveness, it’s all about where and what type forgiveness. Are you looking for more improved launch? More or less spin? Improved performance from toe or heel strikes? Most can deliver in 1 or 2 areas but not all. The best solution is to visit a qualified fitter like Michael and get fitted on a launch monitor. The ‘most forgiving’ club doesn’t exist, it’s about finding the club most suited to how you deliver club at impact producing the best launch conditions for the courses you play.

20 degree does not replace a 3 wood unless you can’t swing it over 90mph
Actually a 4 or 5 wood is far more beneficial for most golfers unless they are very skilled with a lot of club head speed. For many, even when they have the speed for a traditional 3 wood, their strike limits it's use to the tee or off perfect lies. A 4 or 5 wood is more useful for most players from a wider variety of situations. Yes, I know, everyone who chimes in will be the exception. Just like every guy I see on the course snap hooking their three wood into the woods trying to reach a par 5 in two always says that shot is their exception. Okay, sure pal.
I have the taylormade version and its helped me big time hitting into greens and even off the tee
