Making good amount of fireplaces outside might help later when you hunt an animal and need to cook as many meat as you can in short time.

Why did the crouch scare him?
It wasnt the crouch that scared him it was wolf that got too close to a big enough fire just it looked like wolf got scared because of crouch.
