Me and my wife went after watching this video. We spent an entire year 2018 there going between the parks in a jayco whitehawk. It was amazing . Some parks are actually 4 per day for full hookup. The best area to go for long term is to bounce between truth or consequences new Mexico and radium springs. There's a gym in TorC that is awesome. House of pain. Many hot springs to visit as well. Storrie lake state park in Las Vegas NM is near one the most famous hot springs in the world, near Montezuma castle
Northern NM has lots of snow and cold including several ski resorts in winter. Southern NM not so much except for Ruidoso. If you summer in the north and winter in the south, you can camp 12 months. Just want you to know, so you can get your money's worth. New mexico has all types of climates, enjoy them.
I love NM. I lived in Soccorro, Las Cruces and Clovis. My good friend has a cabin in Ruidoso and she loves it too. The people are warm and friendly, the food is fantastic, and I just miss it! Enjoy the Land of Enchantment. :)
can you camp there thru all holidays? do you have a limit on how many days you can camp at in a row before having to move? I saw on the sign that they have additional prices for electricity and water hook up or reserving an RV site per day etc. How does that work if you have a park pass?
You could put one of those folding boats on top, and have an outboard motor and go trolling all morning, and you don't even have to catch anything. Fishing is always good, as long as the weather is good. You could drift around on a cool day in early fall, when the sunshine is just right, and try to not fall asleep.
Don't be too discouraged about Winter camping in NM. In the Albuquerque are, where I lived for a full Winter, I saw flurries a couple of times and had actual snow on the ground one time. It was gone by 10:00 a.m. because the temperature went up to the 50's. You even see 70 degree days in January and February. I used an evaporative cooler for all of the hot days because the humidity never went high enough to make it ineffective. My big concern would be water availability. They've had a tough time water wise. I will definitely keep New Mexico in mind when I get on the road next year. Appreciate you Bob!!
Br. Curt Beardsley- Thank you for the info...can you please give me some solid advice? I'm 46 and it is just me and my 3 dogs and I can go anywhere from Feb1st - March 30th in my 21 foot camper.....and I am not picky, but do want the weather to somewhat decent...what 3 places would you suggest? I live in the middle of Kansas so I would just leave from here. Thank you!
Many places in NM are just AWESOME ! Wondering about MORPHY LAKE. I was there before it became a State Park. Think it's 5000 feet elevation. Apparently good fishing too.
I really appreciate and urge you to continue to be so thorough. I know it must bore some people. But, I always tell people who are explaining something to me to assume I know nothing and to explain everything simply and thoroughly. Keep up the good work!
I'll bet Cody loves this life as well. Always something new to explore. I wish you both the best as always. By the way that bathroom was awesome, huge and very clean.
U opened up a whole new world 4me buddy you're videos are amazing. Thank u so much for this im going to do everything in my power to get rid of all my junk, get a vehicle, & im gone. N.M is just the weather im looking for & i had no clue until this video. You are the man ty so much
OMGosh I haven't been watching RUclips lately and didn't notice that you were here in New Mexico. There are so many lovely places to stay. When I become a nomad I can stay in New Mexico we have really nice weather here. We like to stay in Cochiti Lake they have wonderful showers and they have a place to swim and boat. We camp in our van with non-hookups for $ 20 a night and have access to water bathrooms and showers as well as trash. Hope you enjoyed your stay here. Heather
You cannot camp at Caballo Lake at this time if you're a non-resident with a $225 annual pass in fact during the coronavirus time they canceled my $225 pass and I only got about six months of camping and in New Mexico their state parks they have just open the parts back up recently and they do not allow people from out of state to uee annual pass at this time. As of October 26, 2020 only New Mexico residents can buy a pass by the state parks.
What a great value. Thanks Bob. Out of all the people doing rv youtube videos I get the most useful, practical and cost effective information from your channel.
I am still catching up on the older videos and sure glad I found this one! What a great deal and I love that camp site! I am working toward that lifestyle. Thanks for all your wonderful videos.
Oh! This is fabulous. I LOVE New Mexico (lived there for 15 years and didn't get to see so much of it.) This would be a good deal for me just starting out. Am so familiar with the roads - Love the wide open spaces and until I get my van set up, these campgrounds would work for me! Thank you Bob!
Thanks Bob for reminding me about the NM parks pass! I had forgotten about it. Love your campsite by the lake. We lived in Roswell for nearly a year and camped at Bottomless Lakes every chance we got for $10 a night. And glad to see you and Cody doing well.
The first shower with the seats, etc. were handicapped. Love your videos. I live on disability income only. My son and I are seriously considering the nomad lifestyle. I'll get to your website and hopefully find info. there . We will be starting as very much beginners and we'd have to get rid of almost everything including our house. We would need guidance and any information on how to become members of the tribe from scratch. Loving your videos Bob. Thanks Gale and Andrew
What a great tip! And most with showers! AND New Mexico has the country's strongest Fourth Amendment laws against illegal search-and-seizure -- they can't just pull you over or come into your campsite and claim (falsely) that they smell pot and want to search your rig, and then call in the dogs when you refuse. They have to have reasonable cause in the first place.
Another great informative video. Bob, thanks for sharing all of this information with us. It is really appreciated when you do all of this work for the community.
reason i subscribed is because im constantly thinking bout getting away from this rat race. i have done alot of camping in alot of state parks in alot of states. when i worked away from home iv chosen camping over motels. iv allway felt content, at peace with myself and with the world. started with a tent then an overhead camper to 23ft coachman then a 30 footer, looking back it was the tent and the overhead truck camper that was most satisfying. but i was working and always had expense checks. so everything you can teach on how to do it on the cheap is very much appreciated. thanks for the vids
Thanks Bob !! You are a wealth of information, enjoying the series and other informative entertaining videos !! On my way.... finishing kids college education, house up for sale, RV hunting, and getting myself educated for my semi early retirement !!! Wish me luck, I'm excited for all the locations and friendships I will encounter along the way !! Love You Guys !!!
Nice video Bob and what a nice place to stay. I love how you always go the extra mile to show us what it would be like to be there... thank you for that. Be safe and God bless!!
I did this last season. As it got hotter I went higher! and just a note..with the national Parks being defunded last month, the $10 national park Lifetime Pass will go up to $80 Sept 1st......get it ASAP !
To know you(watch) is to love you. This is a great deal! I hate sleeping in hotels when I travel. So if I can sleep every night in my rig with free showers this pass will pay for itself in 3 -4 nights. Great video again Bob.
We purchased the NM State Parks Pass this year after watching your videos. It's $180 for NM residents "non senior" and $100 for NM seniors. Caballo SP is wonderful~ The dry camping areas are our favorites. It's such a peaceful place.. Thank you for your videos..
Great piece of information. What a great offer. Even part timers like us could spend a nice long month bouncing between parks for about $7.50 a night. Thanks for the heads up Bob.
Thanks for the information Bob. I've been following you for several years now and learning a lot. This information is exactly what I've been looking for. I'm 70 now and alone. I need a place to go. Thanks again Bob. Gona check it out. I hope the good folks of New Mexico don't mind another old guy dropping in. I do pay my way.
Looks like NM has the best deal on this...and not many states even offer a pass. California is stuck on 'day use' and it's 195.00 you still have to pay to camp. With thirty campgrounds around the state (if they all stay open) 225 bucks is a pretty low cost of housing. The fact that there are showers, water, and trash that you don't have to pay for is a plus.... And, really, 2920 for full hook-ups for a year? That's less than two months of rent (not including utilities) where I live!
Great video!! There's something comforting knowing there's such an option. I'm not doing this rvliving yet, but the information u show is original and amazing ! thank you, Bob !!
The Free/Not Free debate might have a resolution! O.K... I think maybe what Bob means when he says, "You pay X amount for the pass, and then you can camp at any NM SP for free" is that with the pass, you can come and go through all the campground check-in points without money ever having to change hands. That is, you will be able to travel into and out of all the SPs, never having to observe the usual formality of payment. Technically, of course, it isn't free. But I think I would probably word it just as Bob does, as perhaps a lot of you might. Kind of a verbal shorthand which, though not impeccably accurate, conveys the idea pretty well.
I really love all these videos, which is helping me to prepare for the jump. However, the word "free" somehow, to me, doesn't convey the true concept, and maybe used a little too loosely. A lot of people that I know already believe that there is nothing in this world that is free...it costs something. Even when transitioning to a van life. The transition process is going to cost for the vehicle, conversion, and when when finally living the life, it COSTS to live, albeit DRASTICALLY LESS than paying a mortgage, rent, homeowners insurance, and utilities. Vehicle living has its own set of expenses, but because of the fraction amount, THAT is its biggest draw. Bob, Thank you so much for your videos. I have been watching your newer videos from February 2018 and am re-watching your older videos, too. Does that make them reruns? lol! The gift of information you share is huge. Your philosophy is authentic to me and brave, since it does not reflect the Hallmark attitude of mainstream America. You inspire me and I thank you.
Bob the more I watch your videos the more I want to quit my job and like free forever. I plan on it anyway in 3 years. Just want to pay off a few things.
Yay, Bob! You finally did it, the video I was waiting for, NM Parks :) I'm a resident so I get the discount. I knew I must live here for something other than red and green chile! Thx for this video. Fishing too, whoo hoo!
I love this lake too! I can see my wife and I canoeing on that lake in a few years. Right now trying to get a rig that will make the trip to New Mexico! Thanks for this video.
Wow at $225/14 = 16 days.......but you get to camp all year - great deal - at $227/7 months = $32 a month - add in $4 a week = $48 a month - plus free showers - Great Deal with Womderful views - thanks Bob for letting us know
I'm looking to do something like this in Colorado until I can get my own land and build an off-grid tiny house. Been living here in the high mountain meadows for two years in Nellybelle, my 93 Dodge minivan. Enjoy.
This was the best information I have received from you Bob, gracias! This beats dispersed camping, BLM, LTVA, I want a shower and safety and this seams to be the ticket!
Wow... if you stayed the full year, obviously moving to another park ever 2 weeks, with the extra 29 days, it works out to 57 cents per day for water, shower, trash, and "rent". Pretty damn good deal, and the other hookups are great perks you can use only when needed.
Great video! Why, AZ for the winter and New Mexico for the Summer! It’s nice to have a plan to fall back on. All I need to do now is figure out what I want/can live in full time.
Good to know Bob! I just purchased a class C motorhome and I'm in the process of moving into it right now. Not exactly sure what I'm gonna do yet but I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be headed towards Arizona to meet up with people who know what they're doing because I sure don't!i'm looking forward to my new life.
Albaquerque is in a valley surrounded by moutain tertain. It can be 46f than go East out of the valley on to the platue where its higher and more flat and there can be a foot or more of snow. Same westbound. You drive up another steep drive to Gallup and you may have snow. I have driven that route many times and it gets dangerous to on the slopes leaving out. Trucks sliding all over trying to drive up the steep slopes. It doent snow often but its snows enough in winter.
Hi Bob. It looks absolutely beautiful! Thanks for sharing, however there is snow & a LOT of black Ice! I drove a semi (coast to coast) for a few years and I was just telling a friend that New Mexico was one of the worst states for Black Ice! Be careful everyone in the winter, it was the first time I slide on ice while driving a semi! Holly Molly, scarry!!
Nice report. That is a good deal and since you have the pass, you either have already been, or sometime soon will be at NM'x City of Rocks State Park, an extraordinary example of what clean camp ground can look like. Also, the many rock formations which give it that name may cast their own spell on visitors.
all so the altitude makes it hard to breath but you get used to it i spent 3 years here and the weather is bearable in the summer winters are cold got down to 2 below zero one time 6 snow days for school in Gallop nm good place to go for the summer then go back to Arizona for the winter
Hi Bob I love all your videos I live out here in Southern California and all of the state federal and private parks are completely booked up all up and down the coast along the beaches and they are impossible to find an opening spot especially during the summer time.
It's crazy beautiful! It's weird though. When you walked to the lake, the mountians and sky looks like a fake back drop. I know its not of course but it looks it. I think nature is amazingly gorgous! I am an artist and would die to sit out there and paint that!
I Believe he said in this video that you can stay at the Free camp sites for 14 days & also pay & stay for 365 days that's what i got out of this Video I Found this Video OUTSTANDING & thank you...🌟🌟🌟🌟 4 Star's from me😁

Nice. Betting some campgrounds are close to great walking trails maintained by Rangers too.

Some of the most useful information comes from this channel. 👌🏼

e
New Mexico state parks in the summer for $225
Arizona Quartzsite LTVA in the winter ( I forget, I think it's $175)
The best of both worlds
Many places in NM are just AWESOME !
Wondering about MORPHY LAKE. I was there before it became a State Park. Think it's 5000 feet elevation. Apparently good fishing too.
New Mexico is one of my top favorite states. Some of the finest Native American jewelry can be found in the Santa Fe plaza.
I really appreciate and urge you to continue to be so thorough. I know it must bore some people. But, I always tell people who are explaining something to me to assume I know nothing and to explain everything simply and thoroughly.

Coyotes maybe. Wolves, I doubt. You scaredy-cat.

OMG.....thank you for the information!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i was gonna go to AZ, now i might get the pass in NM
Thanks for showing the showers. New Mexico here I come!

My favorite for boondocking, hands down!!!
Another great informative video. Bob, thanks for sharing all of this information with us. It is really appreciated when you do all of this work for the community.
This is a wonderful series. How lucky folks are to have this gift of your experience and knowledge.
💜to you and your family.
I love these videos, Bob. You are able to make this alternative lifestyle seem attainable for almost everyone. That's exciting!
reason i subscribed is because im constantly thinking bout getting away from this rat race. i have done alot of camping in alot of state parks in alot of states. when i worked away from home iv chosen camping over motels. iv allway felt content, at peace with myself and with the world. started with a tent then an overhead camper to 23ft coachman then a 30 footer, looking back it was the tent and the overhead truck camper that was most satisfying. but i was working and always had expense checks. so everything you can teach on how to do it on the cheap is very much appreciated. thanks for the vids
New Mexico is a beautiful state. That's quite a deal! Thanks Bob. I appreciate you!
Nice video Bob and what a nice place to stay. I love how you always go the extra mile to show us what it would be like to be there... thank you for that. Be safe and God bless!!
Those are nice showers for a state park!
Great video again Bob.

hi just want to asked what website did you go to get the pass
THANKS Bob. Great deal for full timer or part time. Happy Trails
I had no idea. What a great deal! Are there any other states that do this?
Looks like NM has the best deal on this...and not many states even offer a pass. California is stuck on 'day use' and it's 195.00 you still have to pay to camp. With thirty campgrounds around the state (if they all stay open) 225 bucks is a pretty low cost of housing. The fact that there are showers, water, and trash that you don't have to pay for is a plus.... And, really, 2920 for full hook-ups for a year? That's less than two months of rent (not including utilities) where I live!
My teardrop has a/c and a ceramic heater. I use to go camping in the winter in feb. every year here in ohio
Thanks Bob, has usual good info for us "newbies" out there .
Bob you are so good at doing this, it is totally enjoyable to watch your videos! Thanks for letting us know about these campgrounds!
Great video!! There's something comforting knowing there's such an option. I'm not doing this rvliving yet, but the information u show is original and amazing ! thank you, Bob !!
Thank you sooo much Bob!!! I am so grateful for you!! 🙏🏼💪🏽💕💕

It might be a little sad if people, in their quest to start the van life, start seeing that it is not free no matter how we try to coat it. Yes, Freedom from the Rat Race, Freedom from Mortgage/Rent, Freedom from Running in Circles, but not free, like beer, because somebody had to pay for the beer. So not free, but a tiny fraction of what you used to pay.
Bob,
Thanks for letting us know about the good deal in the NM State Parks
Wow!! Another awesome video and what a great state to spend at least 7 months of the year!! Gratitude, Bob!! 😊😊
Excellent! I took a look at the NM State Park map and zoomed in on some of the more mountainous parks with lakes and TREES! Gorgeous!!
thanks, Bob you are doing what helps all of us.
And you even put your foot in the water LOL. Loved it, great info, thank you once again
Thanks Bob! Really impressed with the amenities and views! I was out in NM in 2007-2008. This inspired me to take my motor home back out there!
Another fantastic episode with lots of great information. Thanks again for all that you do!!! Cheers!!!!
Thanks Bill, I live in New Mexico and love it. This has opened some wonderful opportunities for us all. Thanks again, Rachel :)
Be aware, Buddy heaters shut off at elevations above, I think I read, 2,000 feet, due to the low oxygen sensing system.
Great information! Thanks for sharing this. When you are on a tight budget, this is a huge score! 🤗
Bob the more I watch your videos the more I want to quit my job and like free forever. I plan on it anyway in 3 years. Just want to pay off a few things.
Bob, I get so much from your videos! Thanks for the time and effort.
Yay, Bob! You finally did it, the video I was waiting for, NM Parks :) I'm a resident so I get the discount. I knew I must live here for something other than red and green chile! Thx for this video. Fishing too, whoo hoo!
That place looks awesome! One sunk cost plus optional variable costs. A very good deal, unless you just go for one night, lol!
Amazing good news in this video, Bob. Thanks for creating and sharing another wonderfully helpful video : )
Excellent resource I probably wouldn't've considered. Thanks Bob. I look forward to being back in that area someday. Aloha.
Wow, that's a pretty great deal. I'm glad that they let you park/camp away from the crowds and main campground spots.
You are full of good information, Bob! Thank you so much.
I might actually go to this campground after seeing this. Thank You.

I love this guy!❤❤❤
Thank You Bob you are definitely the pioneer of this way of life 💜🐾
Thank you Bob..awesome information as always and a summer site!
In NM now so I called. $225 pass eliminates entrance fees but it is NOT FREE TO CAMP according to NM office.
Great video! Why, AZ for the winter and New Mexico for the Summer! It’s nice to have a plan to fall back on. All I need to do now is figure out what I want/can live in full time.
hardly ever see snow only usually on the surrounding mountains been here since jan and it's not really that cold need a couple extra blankets
I lived in Santa Fe for a winter. Lots of snow.
Thank's FOR ALL THE INFO. ON CAMPSITES, IT IS A BIG HELP FOR NEWBIES...
Thank you buddY!! great price and beautiful lake...definitely something to consider all year
Thanks Bob for the info. That is truly a great deal .. all the best 👍✋
bob you really got my attention that sounds like one hell of a deal also will have friends in the area, thank you.
Great series Bob! I now know I can spend winters in AZ and summers in NM without spending much money!
Beautiful place
What is the name of this state park?
Caballo Lake
Another great video! So much great info that I never would have known!!! Thank you Bob
Totally love you! Hope to meet you one day.
I Believe he said in this video that you can stay at the Free camp sites for 14 days & also pay & stay for 365 days that's what i got out of this Video I Found this Video OUTSTANDING & thank you...🌟🌟🌟🌟 4 Star's from me😁
