Cheap Van Life Living: Camping in Ehrenberg, AZ

  • The BLM has sent in a bunch of Rangers and began the 14-day clock ticking on all our tribe members at Ehrenberg, Arizona. And while that is inconvenient for the new members who were going there for the safety and security of the tribe, it really is no big deal. There are a ton of great camping places all across the desert southwest and moving every 14-days is very easy and simple. In this video, I show you both WHERE and HOW to find a campsite.

    I've been following you since 2017 as I was living under a bridge, that's when I decided to work to live this beautiful life that you have offered. After three years I'm almost at the point where me and my two furry babies will be living this life for the first time. You are basically the only person that I listened to on a daily basis. I truly believe that you are one of the great people on this Earth and while I am scared poopless I am looking forward to possibly meeting you personally and thanking you for changing my life. Thank you Sir.

    Bob, you have such a good heart. I met a young couple who needed a car so they could work and not be homeless. I gave them my car because #1. They had a need #2. I had a job with a company truck. Now everything has changed. I have been told to leave my rented room and my job may go bye. So now..I am going to be carless and homeless. I have faith that I can find a cheap van and head west.
    Thanks for all your advice and videos. Perhaps one day I can meet Cody..oh and you too..🤠

    Thank you, Bob. This video made me cry. I think you're such a kind compassionate human being.
    Right now, things are so bad for me I didn't see any way I could provide a home for me and my two cats. I thought I was going to have to put them in a shelter and end my life.
    I stumbled on your videos and you've given me hope. I'm hopeful that if I can just get a reliable van and a solar power source, that I can make it at least until they're gone. I'm sure you're saving lives. I know you're saving mine.
    Without your videos I wouldn't know how to start. Now I know how to insulate from the cold and vent for the heat, have power,....so many things, even how to find friends.
    Thank you for all the encouragement. I still don't know if I have the strength to do this but I know how to start. All your instructions encouragement have helped me believe I can at least try.
    You're doing something wonderful. You're making a real difference by not just telling people what they *can* do. That's never enough. You're going the extra mile by showing people *how.*
    Thank you

    The tendency to not want to "spread the word" about van living is similar to what I hear from cabin owners after they discover the beauty of living on a lake. Once they get their cabin they immediately start trying to change the zoning rules so no one else can build on "their" lake and spoil their view.
    Keep doing what you're doing Bob. It is helping many people.

      Bob has great information that's being subjected to change from time to time by inforseen occurence that befalls us all. (Ecclesiastes 9:11) Can't blame him. On the flipside. If the information gets out to many people, expect problems such as sites getting swamped and closed. It's about balance on how much info to give out. It's the way people are and if law enforcers don't like it, they'll start enforcing and possibly close down areas. If it gets permanent, that's even worse.

    I don't understand the doom and gloom. It's still 14 days and that's a long time to be in one spot. If one rotates the places you shared on the map, that's like 4 months or more of camping and then you can start over again if you want. Yes, more people are trying this lifestyle. But I bet if you tracked the number who start vs the number who quit, it would end up pretty even. Bob, you're an easy target for those who have likely always lived with a "me first" attitude. You're a good man. Keep doing what you do without apology.

    I believe the reason so many people need the lifestyle you advocate is because our "systems" have broken down. I'm a baby-boomer so I can recall when a day's work payed a living wage for a whole family. That is no longer true. It seems to me that whoever is trying to blame you for enforcement of BLM laws is copping out on where the blame really lies. With all of us. Because we all participated in the greed/complacency/laziness that has put our country in this place. You are a wise man, you have learned life's lessons and now try to live a better life by helping others. For those who wish to hide the truth from others who need this lifestyle I hope the maturity and wisdom you have learned Mr. Wells.

    People are afraid because they are seeing huge sections of BLM land being given to drilling companies, and they don't realize how much land there really is. I won't make it to RTR this year, but next year for sure. Bob, what you are doing may have saved my life. I had lost hope that my life would ever get better. I was stuck in a place I don't especially care for, unhealthy, depressed and unmotivated to do anything about it. Finding you and the tribe has motivated me to get rid of all this junk I've been paying to carry around and house all these years and actually start to live! I have a real plan for the first time since I lost everything in the recession. Thank you so much for making my life worth living again. I can't wait until I get my van and get out on the road.

    Well, all public lands have a time limit - usually 14 days. It's there so there's no Slab Cities popping up all over the place, which is exactly what would happen without some kind of time-limit enforcement. I consider that a good thing. I'm glad we all can use the public lands in this manner and don't be fooled, the US is one of the few countries where you can camp on public land without a permit or payment. So be glad you have to move only every 2 weeks - that's why you got into the whole mobile lifestyle anyways. If you want to be stationary just park your trailer in a trailer park.

    Speaking directly, and honestly, van dwelling to me means freedom, and part of that freedom is to help make the lives of other people better if I can. That means speaking out, informing others about how this works, keeping an open mind so I can learn, it is a heart-felt way of sharing, nurturing, growing. To those who have not acquired this gift, it is unfortunate, but I cannot allow selfish and self centered people to affect my life. Great job, Bob, I have a lot to learn, and because of you, doors are opening and my own barriers mostly placed by me are falling.

    As a resident of Ehrenberg I can tell you it is us locals and the our sheriff that more likely got BLM to start enforcement. We are tired of all the trash and broken down vehicles that get left by some of you. We live here year-round and can't even go out and enjoy the area because it is being destroyed by boondockers. We understand that alot or even most are good people but the rotten apples have ruined the bunch in this case. I love living here but am tired of only being able to enjoy the desert and River surrounding MY town in the summer. Just last week I tryed to go down to the spot by the river were I go everyday in the off season to take my dog for a walk only to get yelled at by boondockers for parking my truck in someones spot. There is a total lack of respect for the locals by some of you and we have had it. We also have lots of summer visiters who come in to the area to enjoy the river they are respectful and treat people here the way a VISITOR should treat the locals. Our community welcomes them with open arms and would do the same for boondockers. If not for the way some treat us and our beloved desert surroundings. I am sorry to hear that you and the other respectful boondockers are going to be punished for the actions of the few but I am glad that we will be getting our area back.

    • @TheCruisinCrew
      @TheCruisinCrew 6 лет назад +43

      Unfortunately there is truth to this. We boondock too and often remove trash others have left to leave the places better than we find them. This community has an opportunity here: if a lot of us start cleaning up abandoned trash and get the word out, we can turn this around and make places better for the locals too!

      @Anthrit 6 лет назад +27

      Kelly M Same here. A lot of ppl on this vid are not looking at it from the perspective of a permanent resident. Even if they are all clean and nice to the locals. How do the locals feel about having their normal quiet areas get busy. What if some of us lived on a plot of land next to BLM Land that was quiet and then all of a sudden you have 100s of RVs and vans living next door?

    • @neoyum9699
      @neoyum9699 6 лет назад +15

      Yes, that would drive me bonkers - suddenly having an influx of people next to me. I live in a Sprinter van. Many boondockers do this so they can get away from other people & have some privacy, peace & quiet. They should certainly understand that people living in fixed houses might want the very same thing!!!... It's the self-centred people - whether they live in fixed houses or vans - who spoil it for everybody.

    • @mildbillhiccup844
      @mildbillhiccup844 6 лет назад +26

      Renea Waite we have only one bar a Family Dollar and two convenience stores in town. The boondockers mostly shop in the other towns in the area we dont realy get any business from them. We are not even technically a town we are a census designated area and the influx of people is way more if a burden than anything else. For example we only have 1 sheriff deputy on duty at a time to patrole between Parker AZ wich is 40 or so miles away and here. In the summer average response time is about 10 - 30 minutes depending on if he as the local sub station or on patrole. This time of year it can take up to 2 hours to get a deputy to your location. Also being a small community we have almost 0 crime most of the year and the calls that they respond to are mostly traffic related due to the fact we are on I 10. But this time of year we see a jump in burglery, drug offences, and assaults. Also from what the owner one of our local businesses has told me theft in his store is worse in one week of winter than the rest of the year. Again I am trying not to say all or even most boondockers are to blame but we as a community are fed up.

    Your title make me LOL & shake my head. I've seen some of those videos of people complaining about having to move. Just made me shake my head. As you said a ranger said it. Guess I don't see why the 14 day rule is a problem. I understand why it needs to be enforced, as more & more people are enjoying the lifestyle
    I've always preferred to go to the places less traveled & stick to the backroads. We're all in such a hurry to get where everyone else is or has been, we miss the real beauty of what the world has to offer
    An exception to that, will be the RTR. I'm nervous about attending, due to the large crowds. Am looking forward to the teaching sessions & meeting new people

    I appreciate this update as a solo woman contemplating coming to my first RTR. You are very good at keeping the focus where it originated...in your heart as you reach out to others’ hearts.
    You handle the bumps gracefully. I laughed out loud at one person’s RUclips editorial about your rise as a cult leader. Yes, the RTR is growing, the need is growing. You appear to be adjusting with the times: asking for help with seminars, moving to portable potties vs tents, being responsible with good boundaries.
    As a friend of Bill W, I wonder if there are any meetings available at the RTR.

    Thank you Bob!!! Don't know exactly when I first saw your videos . But remember how uplifting they were. I know I was in a wheelchair from a serious car accident. That was over a year ago. I have a dream because of you. The Universe will provide the travel trailer and vehicle I desire. This is great information for your listeners. Thank you for sharing your heart.

      The key is to "help" and "do no harm". I see so many people who think they are helping but are really juz mussin in sumbunny elses bidness! 🤣
      So you have to help in such a matter as to be there to help THEM! It is great people want to help. 👍

    Merry Christmas Bob. Happy New Year.
    For everyone else who listens to Bob;
    Don't leave trash. Don't buy things that get thrown away. Take useable stuff to resale shops.
    Don't trample the plants. Plant a tree instead.
    Don't hurt other people with dangerous or illegal activity.
    Don't prevent others from enjoying the land we all share.
    Then no enforcement will be needed.

    Hello Bob. Some people just love drama. Life. Thank you for all you have done to enlighten those of us that want a better life. Those of us that are new. In the sixty-sixty years, ten months, three weeks and five days I've been on this Earth, I've meet some of the nicest people. But I've also met some of the most evil, racist, arrogant, disgusting, self centered people that I care not to encounter in my next life.
    Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

    Thanks, Bob. Maybe people coming from the east are having a hard time comprehending the abundance of places in the desert where they can boondock. When I looked online I found a website that listed 245 places to boondock in AZ. When we stayed for the winter we purchased an LTVA pass (which included access to free water, dump stations and a place to dispose of trash) and never had to worry about a spot to away from the crowds.

    It is so uplifting to me to hear someone admit to their faults ( we ALL have them) and then go on to say that the person that I was then is a different person now. That is what a true man should be. There's not one person without faults but when you are being true to yourself and can admit and change then you are a bigger person for it. I'm thankful you are a caring and helpful man and I've learned so much from you even in the short time that I've found your youtube site. I applaud you Bob and am excited for what I'm learning and gleaning from you site for when I can be on the road also. Blessings, Teri

Wish Id had seen ya those many years ago. I hope this is helping mums out there that may be in that predicament, it truley is a lifesaver.

    Sorry Bob that people are complaining to you about something you don’t control. I think a lot of people who are considering the nomadic life really don’t get it. For one thing you have helped many people transition from destitution and hopelessness to a livable and even enjoyable life. A good many of those people will not adopt the nomadic lifestyle permanently, but in the meantime they have hope for a better future. I think people are always looking for a place to plant themselves and would never leave if there weren’t some restrictions. Thank you again for your help! You’re doing a good thing. Happy New Year To You!

    Thanks for all you do, Bob! I agree with you 100 percent in that everybody who leads the romantic life has done so, and shouldn't prevent others from the privilege of being able to do this lifestyle, also! Those who complain that you're "ruining a good thing" by continuing to help people who are drowning in debt, living on SSDI or other fixed, limited income, and scared for their very lives! There are so many folks who never thought of the nomadic lifestyle as an option, and for many it is literally a lifesaver! I am so thankful that you will continue to help those in need, as we all should. It is the example that we should all follow-love your fellow man! Treat other people the way you want to be treated, with kindness respect consideration and helpfulness!

    Amen, Bob! On our travel days, we're always amazed at the seemingly infinite amount of miles and miles of open land in a supposedly overcrowded country. The reason that the United States is "overcrowded" is that the vast majority of its population is concentrated in a few large metropolitan areas. Let's not make the same mistake boondocking!

You never cared if they were down on their luck or we're choosing as a lifestyle, people were just people. I appreciate how you teach and treat others. Do not ever change. You have to answer to yourself. Thank you for what you have done and no apologies are necessary.

A lot of good ones but you are the best in my opinion. If those who watch you have learned anything from you then they have no right to blame you for the normal enforcement of BLM. I guess some just need someone to blame instead of thanking you. Happy New Year!!
