Checking Out Vintage Trans-Am Race Cars at Laguna Seca!

- Huge shout out to my grandpa for taking me on this trip! We checked out a bunch of vintage race cars at Weather Tech Laguna Seca Raceway, which was probably my favorite part of the trip. The following day we went to the Gooding & Company auction, which was also pretty cool to check out! They sold a 1965 Shelby GT350 R for $775,000! The next day we went to the Pebble Beach Concourse show, which had some incredible classic cars. One of my favorite things about the trip was hanging out on Ocean Ave in Carmel.

Welcome to the most underrated hot rod channel on RUclips.
Thanks!
Agreed. But cool subculture stuff has always been under the radar.
Totally agree
About this channel
completely agree… and great choices in background music! love your mustang!
It's nice that you can experience it with your father and your grandpa. Cherish those moments!
I agree!
I was about to say the same thing.
Jazz music during the Pebble Beach 🏖 segment was spot on
It’s such a magical place. Miss going there with my old race teams.
Baja Cantina in Carmel is a must stop, on your next visit
…,And Cole Foster’s shop!!!
Thanks!
Laguna is my favorite track. I worked at JBA Speed Shop for three years, made it to Laguna three times and Sonoma twice. J Bittle (silver 29 68 Shelby coupe) was about as cool a boss as you can have. Building people’s dream cars and going racing was a dream come true. Starting my own shop in SC now but will always be grateful for my time there.
I’m so jealous, so many cars from my childhood. Those Trans-Am cars are to die for, actually all that old school stuff hits me in a very emotional way, thanks Ben I always love the content, great to see grandpa, I’d love to see more of him.
Yeah I feel you!
You've got a knack for picking the perfect music for the theme (for lack of a better word) of your videos 👍
I also prefer seeing beautiful cars in motion, rather than in static displays. That said, I would like to experience Pebble Beach just once.
Much appreciated!
You've got the right attitude young man. Cars are for driving and, where possible, racing. Great editing skills on show here too. Well done on some interesting content on the channel.
Thanks!
Man theres just something special about the original trans am series cars.
When I was a kid in the '90s my father took me to the Historics at Laguna Seca in his '67 Corvette that he bought brand new. I was just a little boy but even now 30+ years later I still remember some of the cars.
Dan Gurney's AAR 'Cuda is EVERYTHING and then some more
Bad ass!
Thanks for the video. lots of cool cars. Not into exotics and those phone bidders would be called Shill Bidding and I think is illegal.
Thanks!
They had the best stance ever that meaty tall rubber that just fit under the fenders with minimal gap!
The concours cars get extra points for taking the tour. That is when one can see an otherwise static display in action. Whoever thought of that idea deserves a very firm handshake.
Yes!
Excellent music selections, especially the surf-rock tracks.
Thanks!
Surf rock with the classic early electric guitar sound is the bomb. Quentin Tarrentino revived it with the soundtrack from Pulp Fiction.
Out of all these Retro racers, the GT40 mk2 of the 1970's are my personal favorite!😍❤️🏁🇺🇸
So nice!
Very interesting getting to see those events through regular car guys eyes. Thanks for putting that episode together!
Thanks!
Thanks Ben,,,,it was more than kool to hang out with you and dad Aaron,,,Big Deal for me.
Thank you!
Still want to hear more stories of your grandpa back in the day
Agreeded!
i have a '70 mach that i was gonna do up as a T/A racer, cause there wasn't anything I wanted to do more than race a classic T/A. have since decided to do the car as a day-2 car instead, and maybe go with a 2litre and under car for racing, but dang the sound of 5litre cars really gets the blood boiling. amazing.
I agree those trans am racers are badass cars and that exhaust .
I loved that jazz music during the auction really fit the scene. The sound of high compression v8s is music of its own
Thanks!
Well done young man. My wife and I are very old Mustang lovers.
Driving to Monterey Bay, Carmel, Hwy 1 Big Sur drive and Laguna Seca is my favorite thing to do. Love that area.
What a joy, thank you.
Thanks
Pretty cool nice spending time with dad and gramps
Thank you!
That's so cool!
When California had road side "safety" inspections, my 71 Pinto (yes, Pinto) was pulled over for many "violations".
I just found a Ew Toob channel called Power Nation that shows some really cool upgrades for older motors. Some were even pulled out of junkyards and made some impressive power numbers with simple parts.
Crazy!
The visuals and sound are so crisp. You really did a great job at capturing Laguna!!
I appreciate the support!
Always loved the Circa 69-70 mustang Trans am cars pure bad ass and they dominated the tracks
Yeah they are the best!
these trans am cars are badass
So sick!
I'VE BEEN THERE ONCE BACK IN 2016. FREAKING AWESOME. I DROVE MY 65 GT350 TRIBUTE THERE. I'M A TEAM SHELBY CLUB MEMBER AND WENT FOR THE MONTEREY VIP EXPERIENCE. MY CAR IS ALMOST DONE WITH A RESTORATION AND I'VE ADDED SOME TRACK PREP FEATURES. I AM HOPING ONE DAY TO RETURN TO MONTEREY AND MAYBE AS A LA SHELBY CLUB MEMBER SO I CAN PARTICIPATE GETTING MY CAR ON THE TRACK. ANYWAYS, GREAT VIDEO. GLAD YOU HAD FUN. I LIVE IN SO CAL, SO MAYBE I'LL SEE YOU AROUND. MY 65 IS MY DAILY DRIVER.
you absolutely nailed the music in this video!
Thanks! I had fun editing with it
Another great video Ben. And what a wonderful way to enjoy spending time with your Dad and Grandfather.
Thanks for sharing, very cool
Beautiful stance on those old trans am cars!
I think that #20 - 917 was the car driven by Steve McQueen in 'Lemans'. I have pictures of it at Mission Raceway around 1995ish. Got to see it do a couple parade laps. Car sounded tough.
This is my paradise!
V/P Is AWSOME! IT'S LIKE DOGGY TREATS FOR YOUR CAR!
Best to you Scott🏁 69 MGB E/P
Great video! Makes me miss living in Monterey. Lacuna Seca was always one of my favorite hangouts. Awesome footage, Ben.
Much appreciated!
Remember the martini porsches and the John Player special well. Had the models and the rc cars as a kid.
Nice vid can only imagine the eargasms with those trans am racers.
Sad so many guys are "afriad" to drive their cars...what about these guys! lol
This is Beautiful content! First video of yours I've seen, and I'm staying.
Thanks!
Thanks Ben so cool to watch you be with your dad and grandpa that is worth more than the best car great video keep them coming .
Thank you!
Great video you did good. Looks like you had fun with your sidekicks. Enjoy your time with them and cherish those moments you never get them back.
Much appreciated!
On My 'Bucket List'!!
I would definitely do it one day!
really well done Ben!!
Some of the real Trans Am racers came over to the Lime Rock Historics in 2016. I was on the transport bridge to the infield when nearly the entire field of cars drove under me. Never had a sensation like that, they shook me to my core.
Enjoyed!!!!!!!!!!!!! 👍👍👍
I appreciate the support
this video is so much fun to watch with all the cool cars and all the vibes
Thanks! This one was fun to make!
Thanks for the video. Well done!
Thanks!
The quality of the shots, the editing and the music. You make the best car videos!
Thanks!
Enjoyed seeing the cars up close and on the track. Kudos to you for some of the music you used in the background. Nothing like a big band (to this geezer, anyway).
Man those old school trans-am race cars sounds amazing brother.
So good!
@@FourSpeedFilms They sure are my brother.
Better than a trip to Disneyland
For sure!
Music fits great to the Old Iron
Great video. I have never made it to Laguna Seca. Want to go. I had my hand in restoring a couple of those Trans Am cars in this video. What you are doing with your Mustang is very close to these cars in many ways. You are getting the look. That is what attracted to your channel early on.
And I totally agree with you on that auction.
Great video. Very inspiring.
Thank you and very cool!!
You're gettin' around Ben! Pebble beach, Laguna Seca, Backyard Yonke's Meet, you've got it all covered
I try 👌
Again, great music Ben.
Looks like a blast!!! Awesome video
Much appreciated
Great video and great taste in cars! I think the late 60s early 70s Trans Am racing spawned the finest looking vehicles out of Detroit. Never seen mid 70s Chevy Monza racers before. Can barely tell a Monza was under all that aero work on the body. I think that’s a great theme to build on for an early Mustang too. The Trans Am theme hasn’t been overdone. Also, ET makes a “Mini Lite” style wheel that’ll work with modern tire sizes if you don’t want to go the 15” route.
Cool!
#1 minilites...they look KILLER
Can’t go wrong!
I appreciate your filming!
Thanks for watching!
Great music choices for editing
Thanks! I had fun making this video
Incredible
🦧
Good job buddy I really love video brought back a lot of good old memories when I was a kid with my dad too it's been a lot of time up that way when I was probably even maybe in a fourth grade all right tell your dad and Grandpa and everybody I said hello later
Thanks!
The look all about the low stance, fat tires and the Panasport racing wheels.
Super well done! I love this channel.
Thanks!
Another awesome video Ben 🔥
Much appreciated dude
Laguna Seca is a dream to see, hopefully one day I can make it out there. Great footage of the trans am cars!
Yeah if you ever get the chance definitely go!
@@FourSpeedFilms
The old reports say James Dean was driving driving up to a race in Salinas when he got the ticket and later died.
I live near by, I imagine they meant Laguna Seca not Salinas.
😆😆😆. " My dad snores a LOT".
Totally agree that the T/A cars are my fave too!
So bad ass!
Great video, glad u got too sharp it with dad an gramps, ,those beautifull sounds an smells of racing fuel, ,, an just think they wanta go electric, no frickin way..lol. great tunes also Ben,,,tks for sharing 😎✌🤙👍
Thanks 👍
Man, love those Trans Am cars! So purposely built for performance. Would love to have a Trans Am style muscle car for the street! Makes me wanna get a set of mini-lites for my Challenger!
Yep, I was always skeptical of these auctions to and what the cars allegedly end up selling for. Good footage.
Thanks!
Great video man! Love that Cali content, buddy!
Thanks!
At 8:12, it's a french 2.7RS ❤
Bonjour de la France 👋
& the edits 👌🏼
Thanks Melodie ♥️ I also like the new profile pic
It looks like fun but It also looks tiring! Over a billion dollars worth of cars. Thanks for the video bud!
Much appreciated! Did about 40k steps on that trip 😂
@@FourSpeedFilms seems like you and Craig had a tiring weekend lol
My buddy and I there all week and yes the cops were on it hard!! Good job on the video maybe see you there next year
Cool!
I'm from LA, own an old Mustang, went to car week for the first time last week, and went to all of the exact places you did... we're practically twins 😂 seriously cool week though.
Awesome! So many cool cars
Very cool. I have to say, I agree. Seeing parked cars is good for about an hour or so. Super cars don't hold my interest beyond the first glance really. Seeing cars that I could actually build like the Stangs or Camaros or whatever and hearing them run is where it's at! I especially like watching road races (not circle driving). I've had the good fortune to see races at VIR, Road Atlanta, and Watkins Glen. Laguna Seca is a bucket list item for sure.
Thanks and very cool!
The Porsche 550 (Replica) was featured in may 2020 on Petrolicious.
Oh okay
Another great video. I hope to go to that event one of these years. Really only way would be if our 56 Chevy kustom got invited on a year they feature old custom magazine cover cars. They did hot rods last year
Much appreciated!
Great video and cars. I enjoy your channel.
Thanks for the support!
I live in York Pa and very fortunate to have race gas right out the pump at a Gulf station right down the block where I live. Turbo blue!
So lucky
Oh no ! You didn't watch the Trans Am Cougar... ;-)
So, great video !!!
Thanks man!
The Trans Am cars are the best!
Bad ass!
Well done
Thanks!
nice
Thanks haha
You are so lucky to live in Cali ! I live in Canada, we can’t even have local car shows yet.
Damn!
Nice! 9:30. My C3 made an appearance. First outing since the build. Based in San Francisco
Hell yeah! That thing sounded super good👌
@@FourSpeedFilms would love the unedited vid if you have!
Followed your IG
Great content
Thanks!
Great vid
Thanks!
Great stuff a s always!!!! Some notes
1. I removed the power steering on my 66 Mustang weeks after I bought it. Just drop the pump, remove the hydro cylinder and leave the P/S tie rod center. Works great. $0
2. Want ear pain stand by a Rotary powered racer w/o mufflers. WOW
3. We raced SCCA A/S, many years of American V-8's did affect my hearing.....get throw away plugs!
Take care!
Thanks! Yeah I’m going to convert to manual steering in my next vid. What’s the hydro cylinder?
@@FourSpeedFilms The cylinder that moves the tie rod....the two hoses connect to it. Some cars the P/S is integrated into the tie rod or steering box. The 65-68 Mustang it is all external thus can just be removed. You'll have no issues!!! THX
Interesting! Thank you for your help👌
Cops have been out in force since 2017 or so. It’s lame.
J Bittle who owns/drives the #29 68 Shelby coupe was a blast to work for at JBA Speed Shop. Getting to go to these events was special.
Nice video presentation!
Thanks! Feel free to share the video👌
If ever want to venture to the Midwest. You should come see the vintage racing at Road America during the VDSCA and Areins/Brian Redmen vintage weekends next year.
That would be awesome
Intresting about the harr ford mustang, my grandfather raced the harr ford cobra, he holds the fastest quarter in one to this day. He would build the engines in his shop
Cool
Nice video Ben. I think you got a few ideas for your own car now.
Thanks!
Great video!
Much appreciated!
agreed on the car show. everyone needs to go to PB at least once, cause it is amazing, but IMHO better to see cars on the road and driven. still go to hot rod shows where you can see creativity and personality, and driving events too like classic racing, but pretty much have stopped going to restored car shows where the cars just sit. Its cool that these high end restorations provide work for people in the industry, but not my thing anymore.
