Back in the 80's, Cort was a cheap import brand you bought for your first guitar or bass when you couldn't afford a Fender or a Gibson. Not any more. I own a Cort Rithimic bass and it's the best bass I've ever owned. Top quality components and construction.

Thanks for the great description of the neck shape and feel, I find that missing in many specs and overviews, yet it's one of the most important aspects of whether a guitar will work for each player or not.

I bought a Cort G250 FR white recently and it's a killer Guitar!
Cost me only 200 Euros (had minor optical flaws, normally goes for around 300 Euros).
It has a bridge humbucker, middle and neck hot rails and a VH like flush to the body mounted Floyd Rose.
I play so many styles on it and I absolutely fell in love with this guitar.
Cort were already great 15 years ago but nowadays they're really going the extra mile.

Cort has always made good guitars. I had a Samic SG back in the day that was a great guitar. The problem with Cort is they don’t have any big box and very few independent store distribution. Other issue is for $750 you can get a Charvel, Fender, Jackson, PRS or other “name brand” guitars. Cort needs to partner with Zzounds or American Music for distribution or even becoming the house brand like Michael Kelley or Harley Benton. Harley Benton has circumvented distribution issues by being incredibly priced, which in the buy to play retail environment we’re in now has helped their branch become a household name for guitar players.

That versatile pickup wiring is used on more and more guitars. I believe the inner / outer coil setting works best with 24 fret guitars because the pickups are closer together than on 22 fret guitars. I don't understand why PRS doesn't implement it on their SE guitars.

The pots that came in my Gibson guitars don’t need to be sprayed out because they never get static. All the other guitars, some of which are quite expensive, need to be sprayed. I wish I knew more about this Phil, I would upgrade all the electronics as needed. I don’t like to spray out pots, it can get everywhere. The Rickenbacker pots never need to be sprayed, and so far the MIM Fender is A-ok. The 3 way switches are a different story, the only one that held up is the Les Paul. 335 and Explorer need help. I don’t want to work on the Ibanez UV77, collectors item etc. But the pot is staticky. Suhr, static. ESP, static.
I would like to know how to tighten the 1/4 male jacks. All my plugs get loose, and I’m tightening them all the time. I just don’t want to put pliers on the metal and scuff it, cause issues with contact.
There are some old pots on my preamps too, they’re basically shot. I would like to refurbish those because apparently they’re not for sale anymore. Just thinking out loud here.

I had a Cortez les paul copy when I was much younger in the late 70's thru early 80's and that guitar was killer. I unfortunately had to sell it during a bit of a financial struggle. That guitar played and sounded great. it was sort of light for a les paul style. The cap was carved, it was crowned and bound nicely and I'm thinking it was a bit chambered under the top. The guitar had incredible sustain. I read somewhere that Cortez was in fact the first incarnation of Cort guitars. I'm not sure that's true but that was a nice guitar. I have tried to buy another but when ever i stumble onto one it's either over priced or not in very good shape. I could buy a used CR series used in great shape with a case for 300 or less.

I have seen a couple of other reviews of the same guitar...they all love it. Almost all guitars have some minor nut/bridge/neck issues out of the box...the nut slots are a minor thing and probably not even relevant if it does not affect tuning. The pickups and the locking tuners are what do it for me - you just don't find to many guitars under $1K with these specs.

  • @marekgitarzysta5193

I have just returned mine to Thomann, and asked for a replacement - it played GREAT, but finish/assembly flaws were unacceptable, even for this price range: totally messed up neck pocket geometry, "skewed" or crooked bridge humbucker, bridge was not assembled properly (or the bridge undercut was off - visually bridge vs body did not align properly). I was so disappointed because of the raving reviews online.
Now that I got my replacement I can only say to stay away from Cort:
    1. Wobbly trem arm - wiggles in the socket, even tightened
    2. Wiring!!! Neck pickup does not split in position 4!!! - problem with the switch (intermittent contact), switch needs replacement. I checked wiring against Cort diagram and it is ok - problem is in the switch.
    3. Misaligned string tree - not in line with strings
    4. Dent/damage near jack - someone dropped or mishandled it
    Other smaller issues:
    Overtightened strap button (cross thread)
Rear trem cover socket routed too deep - touches trem springs
    Small dents on neck
    Loose pots
    Loose jack
This is a replacement guitar, seems to be even worse than the 1st one - it was my first guitar purchase from Thomann and I regret it, seriously number of issues point to no inspection on their side, even for replacement gear - disappointing. And they cannot package their instruments well - inner box was not taped and guitar literally fell out into the bigger, outer one. TWICE!! (both original and the replacement one - so seems to be their "standard").
I wonder if I should sent it back or ask for a discount - I really like the concept of the guitar, but execution is abysmal

Hey Phil, I just picked up a cort 300x body which I’m modding out. The body was completely stripped of parts so no control cavity plates. I’ve searched every where for them with no luck. Planning on crafting my own out of wood. Would there be a way you could email me trace template I could print out to use as a guide? I know your super busy just a shot in the dark. Thanks love the content, always learning new things.

What is the size of fret wire?
Seems like wide wire and bright white.

Thanks for your great work, Philip! The G300 is about the same price as the X700. Why would you choose one over the other?

Had to leave Braun’s video because he couldn’t say what kind of Duncan pickups they were, like they’re all the same wth!? Thanks for going into that detail as the website just said SD pickups no specifics.
I like my rg selector switch, it does 1 bridge, 2 both humbuckers coil split and in parallel, 3 both humbuckers in series, 4 neck split by itself, and 5 neck in full. I like because you get neck in 4 positions! Mine is a whole lotta humbucker neck and a dimebucker in the bridge

I'm not that sold on the sounds, at least through youtube. But that neck and the overall spects seem fine to me. I'm glad Cort jumped into the fusion superstrat boat.

Grrr right when I think ok I’m good I don’t need a guitar, you do this review and now I want a Cort. I’ve seen some in stores before I moved and I didn’t think they were made of wood. It was just so stupidly light lol

From Leo: I took two CORT guitars in on trade. An X2 Vyper and an M600. Both are pretty good guitars.

I believe you will find that the overall fit & finish along with several other features will be nearly identical to the Larry Carlton Sire S7. The S7 has a bit beefier neck though. I can't wait until you review the S7 that you recently ordered.
