Sadly, it's easier to get new phones by destroying them rather than properly reviewing them. Putting an iPhone in lava will get you enough views to buy a couple more iPhones and then your wheel of destruction will just snowball.
As soon as you reach 5k subscribers products start coming in from the small brands. 10k Subscribers, more expensive products start to show up and so on. Always give your honest opinion to your viewers and you are in business :) Don't let brands to push you around.
It doesn't take near that many. I started making proposals to companies for small products on my 3d printing channel as soon as I hit about 100 subs, and many were more than willing to go check out my content and see that a 25 dollar roll of filament could easily be returned with just a couple rolls. Now I am starting to work with small start up printer manufacturers to get pre production units to review. You just don't need to try to go too big too fast or the marketing department will laugh at you.
Ah yes, about time. I would've killed for this video a couple years ago. Main tip: Actually build a channel and your own brand/platform/style before getting all desperate and relying on review samples. Buy open box or gently-used products, review and re-sell. Borrow new products from friends and family to review. Come up with new ideas entirely, as just a straightforward tech review is no longer a unique content format. Then, once you've shown that you can be successful with this and produce quality content that can influence sales, then start reaching out to companies with what you can do for them and such.
EposVox yeah simple part is have determination or you wont suceed not all videos are good and im sure some people quit aftere there first videos get a bunch of bad comments instead of reading them critiquing the way you rmake your next video
This video spoke VOLUMES to me - as someone in the 3D Printing 'influencer' space (how did that happen?) I get bombarded with questions on how I got access to so many machines - many keeper units. Well, I worked in a 3D Printing Studio and reviewed everything in that studio (for free)... then left after things were established to make my own way. Stay awesome dude.
+Maker's Muse So, similar to what Linus did. Get a job related to what you love and use your unprecedented access to make videos about the things you use or otherwise have access to. People just need to remember to make sure that their employer is okay with that.
Yeah, he may look like a high-pitched douche but he's actually very smart and he has a very strong mentality. I mean about 1/4 of his total subscribers right now are also the number of people who unsubscribed to this channel (a million, more or less), plus they always receive a lot of negative feedback from time to time. And he's still moving forward and improving himself further. I think that atleast is very admirable.
I managed to get a whole PC from Alienware about 10 years ago, but I was presenting a show on TV at the time. Now I get Chinese tech companies wanting me to review knock off/pirated hard ware. which is tempting to do to the companies that ignore me now :D But it boils down to either A: Are you popular? or B: Do you have friends that are the PR people? If either of them are No, then you ain't getting nuffink.

The answer should be easy, you have 2.46 million subscribers. We get requests for $4000 suspension kits sponsorship and the person tell us, I'll put your sticker on my truck...then I hit the delete key. I mean, I get the joke (showing "some wannabe kid" saying that it's impossible to get samples, while he has 3.3M subscribers, 50% more than Linus), it's just I'm sometimes a bit surprised to see some of my followed channels connect like this. Actually, while he is kind of mobile first, I think that's a good thing. Some do this, some do that and I (and we all) get to enjoy both :)
Honestly admire the raw honesty that Linus shows in these videos. The man is a true hustler - he talks business and seems to be always thinking of how to make LMG better. The only way companies give you samples if they think you are useful to them. The only way to get it to happen is to hustle till you make it.

A simpler answer to this video that would of filled up less time thou is "get enough subscribers and people will give you free stuff" or "I worked at a computer retailer and reviewed lots of hardware that was laying around, then I got enough support/subscribers to turn it into a full time business". The last part is important because during the initial phase he was getting paid to be a salesman for ncix. I'm honestly surprised that this was such a popular question. This channel gets literally millions of views, of course it's a no brainer for companies to send review samples to them. They are reaching millions of people for virtually no cost.
@@icarusben4633 THat was when the channel itself was owned by NCIX, it's not driving business anywhere but to themselves. Then Linus left and bought the channel from them and they still grew, without the support of free stuff from NCIX.
if your a computer engineer (or any kind of engineer) , no issue getting test products. only thing is you have to be a very detailed reviewer. And i dont mean public reviews. this is something you borrow from them and return within a time limit with a very long descriptive e-mail attached. Giving info such as specs you ran it under, what tests and the outcome of each test....basically your a "product tester" and they round up all reviews and summarize it (mainly just the good feedback) and post that to their website or product packaging. I do this with industrial programming software and industrial measuring equipment.
Am i the only one here who is just in love with Linus? He's just so fantastic and I found his videos randomly one day and then ended up subbing to almost all his channels. His videos alone taught me so much. This guy is a straight up savage

I'm honestly surprised that this was such a popular question. This channel gets literally millions of views, of course it's a no brainer for companies to send review samples to them. They are reaching millions of people for virtually no cost.
One of the best videos that Linus has put up on youtube, actual usable info.
what a terrible segway...
indeed
Just like you mom.
Sorry just had to do it.
+Adam Moss
* what a BEARable segway...
+Adam Moss
Shouldn't that be Segue?
+OptionalLemon Yes, it should. Ill be more mindful in the future.
You could have just said "uh.. we have 2.5 million subs... thats how"
+Ryan Novack And how do you think they grew to this size without products
How do you think that they get this big without putting any effort?
@@SamfisherSam They worked for a retailer that gave them samples to drive business towards the retailer.
@@icarusben4633 THat was when the channel itself was owned by NCIX, it's not driving business anywhere but to themselves. Then Linus left and bought the channel from them and they still grew, without the support of free stuff from NCIX.
how about a review sample of DEEZ NUTZ
+LinusSexTips
i gave him a sample of my meth
Can't wait to see more videos like this. It just feeds my curiosity.
if your a computer engineer (or any kind of engineer) , no issue getting test products. only thing is you have to be a very detailed reviewer.
LinusTechTips slowly turning into 25% content 75% commercials
what he's trying to say is, you have to be decently famous for anyone to send u stuff
You need to put alot effort to the channel, having a alot of subs won't help you in a long run since people can loss interest to your channel
Not really, those press machine channel guys, do you think they became famous by company give them free iphone and press them until it destroy lol.
lol wut. Asking Intel for a GTX 980, well that's your first problem there. Wait... Actually no there's many other problems...
Am i the only one here who is just in love with Linus? He's just so fantastic and I found his videos randomly one day and then ended up subbing to almost all his channels. His videos alone taught me so much. This guy is a straight up savage
I liked how honest he is
why should there be a segment called honest answers?
shouldn't you ALWAYS be honest?...
Yea but sometimes they lie in Q/As, Fuck you
wait does that mean nicky d isn't German????
+Fuck You
+Fuck You "Linus should spend ten minutes explaining every little aspect of the business in every video"
... kay
"We answer your questior"
Nice job messing up on the title card ya goof :D
was wondering what happened. thought n y phone was wacked
Not going to lie, I bought a R9 285 strickly because linus gave a good review on it and gave the benchmarks to support it...... so kudos too linus! One r9 285 review sample has paid for itself.
This is probably my favorite video made by Linus if not my favorite on all of RUclips
