    Lyrics:
I see the happy family tree
    It sways so easily
    We're smiling all the time
    This world just isn't mine
    We watch it burn
    And we never learn
This can't be what you're waiting for
    Staring into the sun
    We eat our young
This can't be what you're waiting for
Just take it easy on yourself
Forget all the stupid things we say
I know you beat up on yourself
I know I know it's in your blood
You say what no one understands
The seeds are in your hands
    The branches break your bones
I can't just leave you alone
    And watch you squirm
    And we never learn
This can't be what you're waiting for
    Staring into the sun
    We eat our young
This can't be what you're waiting for
Just take it easy on yourself
Forget all the stupid things we say
I know you beat up on yourself
I know I know it's in your blood
And I can't bring myself to look
I rip the pages from the book
    And watch it burn
    And we never learn
This can't be what you're waiting for
    Staring into the sun
    We eat our young
This can't be what you're waiting for
Just take it easy on yourself
Forget all the stupid things we say
I know you beat up on yourself
I know I know it's in your blood
    It's in your blood

I remember when this album came out, there were commercials and everything for it. With the advertising and how good the music is, I don't know how Abandoned Pools didn't take off.

@axra_skies I doubt it, but they did have commercials for CD’s in the early 2000’s. I couldn’t believe that this wasn’t bigger than it was because it was really being pushed hard. Tower Records had tons of these CDs too.

Possible it could be in a random compilation of ads, a lot of lost ads have been found because they were hiding in plain sight like that

I interpreted this song to be about a family history of depression

  • @Johnny_Joestar_.
    @Johnny_Joestar_. 4 месяца назад +2

I think this one of the more upfront songs in the album, so I would like to believe that this interpretation is valid, si i believe it delves into themes of familial dysfunction, self-destruction, and the perpetuation of negative cycles. The "happy family tree" symbolizes the facade of happiness and stability, which masks the underlying turmoil and instability. The repetition of phrases like "we watch it burn" and "we eat our young" emphasizes a sense of inevitability and helplessness in the face of destructive patterns.
The lines "forget all the stupid things you say, I know you beat up on yourself" highlights the self-critical nature of the protagonist, possibly reflecting a struggle with self-esteem or mental health issues. The phrase "it's in your blood" suggests a hereditary aspect to these struggles, hinting at a cycle of dysfunction passed down through generations.
The repeated refrain to "take it easy on yourself" juxtaposes the self-destructive tendencies with a plea for self-compassion and forgiveness. However, the repetition of "we never learn" and "staring into the sun" implies a resignation to repeating the same mistakes and being unable to escape the destructive cycle.
Overall, the lyrics paint a poignant picture of inner turmoil, intergenerational trauma, and the struggle to break free from destructive patterns, while also hinting at the possibility of self-redemption through self-compassion and forgiveness.

Elucidator I've always thought about this one lyric, but ultimately it has always boiled down to putting down the younger or one whom you deem less worthy or wise to what you, yourself, have come to understand.
