Lyrics:
Wipe away the summer air
You don't wanna see
That's you in that Photograph from 1973
And you don't even know me
God only Knows I wanna be
The other side of misery
Gimme a plate of Fluorescein
I'm gonna paint an ugly scene
All of the things I wanna say
Can't get a word out anyway
Falling away after today
Nothing to lose so come what may
Don't wake me
You got away from me somehow
And all we tried to be
Everything is different now
The mind's eye fails to see
And all we know is TV
God only Knows I wanna be
The other side of misery
Gimme a plate of Fluorescein
I'm gonna paint an ugly scene
All of the things I wanna say
Can't get a word out anyway
Falling away after today
Nothing to lose so come what may
Don't wake me
Inside, I rise above this shallow world
Inside, I rise above this sorrow
God only Knows I wanna be
The other side of misery
Falling away after today
Nothing to lose so come what may
Don't wake me
God only Knows I wanna be
The other side of misery
Gimme a plate of Fluorescein
I'm gonna paint an ugly scene
This album gets better with every listen
Definitely has aged very well.
and here....full pandemic.....im revisiting this great stuff
ikr! on my fiftieth listen now and i can't get tired of it.
I think it delves into themes of nostalgia, disillusionment, and a longing for escape. The song opens with a sense of detachment from reality, as the speaker wipes away the "summer air" and refers to a photograph from 1973, a symbol of a distant past. This sets the tone for reflection on lost connections and the passage of time.
The repeated refrain "God only knows I wanna be the other side of misery" suggests a desire for change or a break from the current state of dissatisfaction. The mention of "Fluorescein," a chemical compound often used in fluorescent dyes, serves as a metaphor for transformation and the ability to create something new, albeit potentially chaotic or ugly.
The inability to articulate thoughts ("Can't get a word out anyway") highlights a sense of frustration or feeling stifled. The mention of "TV" as a predominant source of knowledge or influence further emphasizes a disconnect from reality and a reliance on superficial distractions.
The lines "Inside, I rise above this shallow world / Inside, I rise above this sorrow" suggest an internal struggle for transcendence or resilience in the face of adversity. Despite the longing for change and escape, there is a recognition that one must confront and rise above the challenges of the present.
Overall, I think it presents a complex exploration of inner turmoil, longing for transformation, and the search for meaning in a world that often feels disconnected and shallow.
Why do all these songs sound so sad I'm not complaining I'm just gonna cry
I love this song so much
This song is pulling all the strings in my heart making me feel emotions way beyond what i can comprehend
best ending to an albummm
Apparently it got added to the album at the last minute. It would've been a damn shame if that happened.
This album reminds me of my aunt..shes now moved away somewhere now i never get to see her anymore :(
i discovered these guys about 20 years ago. they were opening for garbage and needless to say i was really impressed. this album is terrific. literally every song is great. one of the best of that decade imo
It’s literally just one guy though
@@Coffee_break514 not live. there's literally a whole band up there on stage
Wow they opened for garbage? I always loved clone high but would literally limewire the living hell out of this album.🤘
Come back please.
New Kickstarter!
still holding out for it
@Dman idk just because the show is back doesn’t mean the band is gonna make the music for it
@@badspamtonimagines2this aged horribly
@@uhh_luc they did?
No skips on this album! ❤
I'd like to take a moment to thank memes for eventually bringing me to this band and album. Sounds like so much of what I grew up wanting to be immersed in, it's like a part of me that's been missing for ages.
Very true. It's music from this time that I enjoy turns out. A lot of rap before and around the turn of the century, never would have known had I never listened
as someone who listened to this when it was new, it very much felt that same way to me when I first heard it
What meme?
@@larce021 The animated series "Clone High" from 2002-2003 circled back around in popularity, reaching newer audiences than it did during its original airing. A lot of memes were made from the JFK character.
I don't like emo rock bands with high voices that sing about being depressed or some sort of mental illness ex. Set it off(the band) , but this is so much more different and makes me appreciate it even more
True
Thus is part of a genre called post-hardcore.
EDIT: I MEANT POST-GRUNGE NOT POST-HARDCORE. Post-grunge is accurately the genre of Abandoned Pools. Post-hardcore is an ancestor to emo/screamo, but doesn't deserve the disrespect emo gets 🤣
So no dashboard confessional
@@Dante_yo_son_of_sparda_yo77 dashboard confessional is the best
@@mielcrotchwaterzz I know been listening for a few months

@@camslut its not in my region :((

Don’t tell anyone about this, keep the good
music to yourself
I would agree. But they are so obscure I would honestly like to share this with more people.
Ah don't worry, I don't think we can make the Abandoned Pools popular even if we tried.
Honestly with the new Clone High reboot's soundtrack being composed by them, they have a chance at getting popular, but then again, the reboot wasn't that well received...
no way a radio station from my very small city (this is south america) played one of their newer songs. i was APPALLED
I still just got rid of Billi illish she used to be my nieabor get over Americans
