Testing my NEW *KastKing Calamus* rod (amzn.to/2HiMDt8)!!! A phenomenal rod that is *light* and *sensitive,* and yet, it has the *backbone* and *sturdiness* to fight and land those Species out there! I highly recommend you folks to get one, cuz you ain't gotta find another rod out there for 60 bucks with a blank material as good as this one. For the blank fanatics: the rod is made with an ultra-thin Intermediate7, 30 million modulus, 650000 strain rate blank material! In other words, an intermediate modulus with a high strain rate type of rod.
I would love if they made a light version so I can use it for vertical/slip bobber fishing for crappie. Also, do you recommend the perigee 2 though for walleye in the medium light 2pc? I want a strong backbone but a sensitive rod for sensing subtle bites.
u look like jackie chan but ur voice is so cool MA N . when u said hesa still pissed i was rolling but yeah man maybe try wack zoom or jackall wacky worms for some real big smallies the fenwick eagle rods are very sweet to for 60$ im going for the 6 foot calamus . i have 3 pfleger rods good st croix and my trophy kistler helium lt 66 wow that 1 is the bees knees avoid the chineses no name shit amazon sells. my wifes reel lasted maybe 6 days out and fell apart bail broke great paperweight now. the lew reels seem good and kastking mela 2
Once eBay had it for $60 plus their 20% off I nab 2 right away , might get a 3rd one , if within a month or so it last . A tad under 10 oz is the lightest one I have at the moment with a 500 model reel .
From one Leo to another.... you sold me on this one! I got my Calamus the other day and brought it out for the first time today. I hooked a small pond fish (Bluegill maybe?) and he made the drag scream. I lost him but what an experience. I've never fished with light/UL tackle before. I can't wait to get out there and land something on it. Thanks for a great review!
I got the rod, reel and line from KastKing on Amazon. The rod was $59.98, the reel was $45.98 and the line was $5.98 KastKing Calamus Rod amzn.to/2Kcap96 KastKing Emerald Eagle 1000 Reel amzn.to/313ZUey KastKing FluoroKote Line amzn.to/2Yf8URn Since writing my comment I've landed a baby LMB and a 1.5 lb LMB on this above setup. It performed very well and I am looking forward to hopefully catching some trout next month with it. It is by far one of my favorite rod/reels in my collection.
nice looking rod you got there Leo! will be waiting for reel size 500 from kastking.. smart & neat looking! congrats on catching 6 species on the rod! you caught 2 redbreast sunfish, 3 bluegill, 2 smallmouth bass, 1 rainbow trout, 1 largemouth bass and 1 rockbass!
Hey love your content. I live out in southern California. Unfortunately not to many options for me to go fishing out here and the temps can get to the high 120s. These are the fish you caught Bluegill, red breast sun fish, bass and rainbow trout. Keep up the great work.
Redbreast Sunfish, Bluegill, Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth Bass, Rainbow Trout, and Rock Bass are the species you caught in this vid. Looks like a solid ultralight setup. Tight Lines!
You caught redbreast sunfish, bluegill, smallmouth bass, the rainbow trout, the largemouth bass, and the rock bass!! I already bought the same rod and I love it!! I use it mainly for bass fishing but I go multi species angling too!
You caught 6 species. Redbreast Sunfish - Bluegill - Smallmouth Bass - Rainbow Trout - Largemouth Bass - and a Rock Bass. Great video. Can't wait for the next one!
red breast sunfish, bluegill, smallmouth, rainbow trout, rockbass, and largemouth. Besides that I love your videos and keep it up. I'm feeling lucky today I caught my first bass of the year and I am happy.
Awesome vid! Very informative with the info about the fishing rods. And what a tease outro into 2 more species good stuff Species caught: 1. Redbreast Sunfish 2. Bluegill 3. Smallmouth Bass 4. Rainbow Trout 5. Largemouth Bass 6. Rock Bass
That looks like a pretty nifty little rod, I may have to put it up against my trusty Celilo. Kastking said they were releasing a steelhead rod called the Krome but I haven't heard anything about it lately. I was/am looking forward to it. Those last minute fish never fail to show up, pesky bass.
You caught redbreast sunfish, bluegill, small mouth bass, trout, large mouth bass, and a rock bass. The Calamus looks nice, might have to pick one up and use the mela II thats laying around.
6 total, #1 Lepomis Auritus, #2 Lepomis Macrochirus, #3 Micropterus Dolomieu, #4 Oncorhynchus Mykiss, #5 Micropterus Salmoides and #6 Ambloplites Rupestris. Love the look of the new calamus , nice fast tip and looks to have a nice bit of back bone to it. can't wait for more videos to come , tight lines Leo.
That rod looks nice,I'd love to see a bait casting version of it for BFS. Wading a creek like that with ultra light bait casting gear would be awesome.
Redbreast, bluegill, smallmouth, rainbow, largemouth, and rockbass. Very informative vid. Looking to get setup with a good UL rig. Will look at the Calamus soon. Subscribed recently and catching up on vids.
Another great video man! I always wanted to document my fishing adventures but never went through with it. Your videos as well as first state fishing motivated me to start up my own channel! I am just getting started but super excited. Thank you! Btw the species were Red breast, bluegill, rock bass, small and large mouth bass as well as a nice rainbow! Fish on!!!
hey man im not familiar with the terminoligy and i learned a lot this video. i do a lot of brook trout fishing up here in east coast canada and your videos are much help.
The species of fish you caught using the new rod are 2 red breast sunfish, 3 bluegill, 2 smallmouth bass, 1 largemouth bass, 1rainbow trout, and 1rock bass nice video keep it up
Red breast sunfish, bluegill, smallmouth bass, rainbow trout, largemouth bass, and rock bass And by the way great vid the rod looks great kastking should make a reel to go with it
Red breast sunfish, bluegill, Smallmouth Bass, rainbow trout, Largemouth Bass and rock bass. Leo I ordered my Calamus rod 6’6” light action for trout fishing. Got it with my Kastking inner circle discount. It arrives on Thursday and I can’t wait. On the bright side they have not stocked trout yet in my area as the water is still in the thirty’s. I am north of Tim Galati to give you an idea.
Leo you caught 6 species! Redbreast Sunfish, Bluegill, Smallmouth Bass, Rainbow Trout, Largemouth bass, and Rock Bass! Great video, and what kind of waders are those? I'm looking for a good set.
2-Red Breast sunfish, 3- Bluegill, 2-Smallmouth Bass, 1- Rainbow Trout, 1- Largemouth Bass and 1- Rockbass I love watching your videos. Growing up fishing saltwater I learn a lot about freshwater here with you. I need all the help I can get with learning now that I live in the midwest with very little knowledge of freshwater.
Most of my rods are UL. They are my favorite. I've been skunked too many times when I was younger. I target smaller fish since they are more abundant. And it's not like I can't catch big fish. I've caught a 9 pound LMB on my UL with 6 pounds test.
I got a kastking calamus but it doesn't go together right. There is about an inch gap when I put the two pieces together. Kastking said this is normal. Is yours like this too?
Question: I have never waded before and I was just wondering what you do with your rod when you go to release the fish. Do you just set it in the water, or do you pinch it between you armpits, or what? Thanks!
I started using the Johnson min-o-spins this year and have been catching tons of trout on them. I bought them in 6 different colors. I do better with the neon green
Yes, Edward. But not recommended. It is a Ultra-Light, after all. I mean...what you gotta do if you fish a pier with a Ultra-Light and catch a NICE fish? Heh. For Pier Fishing, I always recommend at least Medium Light.
Leo what do you think about the 2 piece/Skeletonized reel seat, I feel they kill the comfort of the rod. I think in time you will miss the Spinmatic. Keep up the great vids Leo, you da man
KastKing wise, the recommendation I would give you is a 1000 reel model. For example, a KastKing Kodiak 1000. But if you really really plan on doing some Micro-Fishing and Panfishing, then I would recommend any 500 reel model in the Market!
Redbreast sunfish 2 Rock bass 1 trout 1 bluegill 3 largemouth bass 1 smallmouth bass 2 Your videos are awesome and inspired me that the size of the fish doesn't matter and even though my mom says she gonna get a headache every time you do your intro I still watch your videos
Leo, I do want one and i think it's pretty sick but i can't right now. So i went on stocking day, I wore my waders i was given for the first time and felt so happy and felt like a true trout angler. You know, Like one of them. Needless to say, This was my first time doing something like this and i was trying to walk back up stream or across and i lost my footing or the current grabbed me. I wanted to hit my limit for the day but catching at least one trout on my Thomas EP Spinner earlier in the day before this event happened was good enough for me and i went home. When i got home, I made sure to get all the water out of the waders and hung them on a chair upside down to dry in the house. Fast forward to yesterday it's been days now i went to put on my waders thinking they would be dry and my waders are still damped at the boots and smell bad. Currently they are now hanging from a boot rack at the boots with paper towels stuffed inside the boots and a box fan blowing air up into them. I'm not sure what else to do and i'd really hate to think i ruined my waders. I would really appreciate it if some lovely people would give me some tips and advice on what i can about them. I will say, I went out yeserday without my waders and fished from the bank and at a lake and caught my limit for trout for the first time ever. Four of them caught on a Thomas EP Spinner and two on Bubble gum Berkley trout worms. As always leo the video was great, had good infomation in it and best of all your new rod did a great job on those fish and i look forward to seeing you use it more. I love learning from your videos and you helped me become a better angler. Tight lines my friend!
The species of fish you caught and landed with the new rod are Redbreast Sunfish, Bluegill, Smallmouth bass, Rainbow trout, Largemouth bass, and Rock bass. I'm honestly thinking about getting that rod, seems pretty nice. What lb/test were you using?
All gear/equipment used is always listed in the description of the video, John! But to make things easier...I was using 4lbs KastKing Fluorokote, and sometimes I use the Trout Magnet 2lbs test! P.s. the rod is blast. You won't regret getting one.
You managed to land a Red breast sunfish, bluegill, smallmouth bass, rainbow trout, largemouth bass, and rock bass. How does this rod compare to your other ultralight rod. I don’t know if it’s just me but the action on the rod seems a lot stiffer than other ultralight set ups I’ve seen on the market
30 mil modulus is a "middle of the road" rating. This isnt necessarily a bad thing on an ultra lite rod, as its a more forgiving formulation that will add to durability. The IM-7 designation really means nothing other than an inhouse generic designation that will be different between different companies. Typically a 30 mil modulus has been most often associated with IM-6 rods...but since the "IM" numbers dont actually refer to a modulus count or graphite content, etc, they can call it whatever they want. The main thing is that you like the rod, it will do the job its intended for, and it will hold up over time.
Hey, Leo! Ultralight has always been my favorite technique for almost every species I go after. The Calamus looks like a winner. You caught four species with it: 1. Red-breasted sunfish 2. Bluegill 3. Smallmouth bass 4. Rainbow trout Is that good enough for me to win the give-away? Tight lines, buddy.

Extreme Philly Fishing I got a new reel kastking summer the name
I would love if they made a light version so I can use it for vertical/slip bobber fishing for crappie. Also, do you recommend the perigee 2 though for walleye in the medium light 2pc? I want a strong backbone but a sensitive rod for sensing subtle bites.
Is the Give away over? How do I get the chance to enter?

Fighting those fish on an ultra light set up must be so much fun!!! I'm think I'm gonna switch up to this for more finesse fishing
Sounds like a sick rod and now I'm tempted but I think I need to hold off on buying more tackle however I can't stop building rods
That looks like a pretty nifty little rod, I may have to put it up against my trusty Celilo. Kastking said they were releasing a steelhead rod called the Krome but I haven't heard anything about it lately. I was/am looking forward to it. Those last minute fish never fail to show up, pesky bass.

Just used my calamus for the first time today! I absolutely love it!
Same here, Joshua. Took me a little while to get used to the grip system. But by the end of the day, I was a pro. Hahaha.
Extreme Philly Fishing that’s exactly how I felt too haha😁
Redbreast sunfish, bluegill, rainbow trout, rock bass, smallmouth and largemouth bass. Thanks for all the great vids!
It appears your rod has a moderately fast tip. Is there much difference between that and the fast tip? Great videos and very informative.
Stocked rainbow trout, a couple of red breast sunfish, a trifecta of blue gill and a nice rockbass
I am glad to hear that you have been positively influenced by the Channel, James! Thanks for all the love and support!
James Hyde d
James Hyde Leo is a great teacher. Watch and you can’t help but learn
Great day for variety: red breast sunfish, bluegill, small mouth bass, rainbow trout, large mouth bass and a rock bass.

Leo you should try berkly powerbait tan worms with a jig for trout, crappie etc caught my PB Crappie on it
Question: I have never waded before and I was just wondering what you do with your rod when you go to release the fish. Do you just set it in the water, or do you pinch it between you armpits, or what? Thanks!
Oops, never mind, I just got further into the video and saw that you pinch it between your armpits.
I started using the Johnson min-o-spins this year and have been catching tons of trout on them. I bought them in 6 different colors. I do better with the neon green
Is it applicable to pier fishing?
Yes, Edward. But not recommended. It is a Ultra-Light, after all. I mean...what you gotta do if you fish a pier with a Ultra-Light and catch a NICE fish? Heh. For Pier Fishing, I always recommend at least Medium Light.
Got it mate. I was wondering myself if this rod can take a beating of a nice fish. Did you try using a UL rod in pier fishing?
ugly stiks for pier fishing.
not a bad looking rod at all
Leo what do you think about the 2 piece/Skeletonized reel seat, I feel they kill the comfort of the rod. I think in time you will miss the Spinmatic. Keep up the great vids Leo, you da man
Nice video! I like Calamus already!
What would be a good Reel to pair with this rod? Looking for something for Christmas.
KastKing wise, the recommendation I would give you is a 1000 reel model. For example, a KastKing Kodiak 1000. But if you really really plan on doing some Micro-Fishing and Panfishing, then I would recommend any 500 reel model in the Market!
Congratulations *Fisherman!* 👍🎣🐠🐟✔
Thank you!
Thanks Leo. I have yet to go out for trout.can't wait
No problem, Randy. When you go, I hope you catch a lot!

What wader are you using

I just bought a Kasking ultra light reel and received a 7 footer rod as a gift. Can I use them together?
Leo, I do want one and i think it's pretty sick but i can't right now.
So i went on stocking day, I wore my waders i was given for the first time and felt so happy and felt like a true trout angler.
You know, Like one of them.
Needless to say, This was my first time doing something like this and i was trying to walk back up stream or across and i lost my footing or the current grabbed me.
It happened so fast i don't recall what one it was but i panicked and first thing to come to mind was drowning.

Extreme Philly Fishing Oh that's what I forgot to do, thanks for info Leo!

2 red breast sunfish 3 bluegill 1 rainbow trout 2 small mouth bass 1 large mouth bass
That is a sweet new rod!
Leo could you add the waders you use to the gear used in the video under the description please. Love the vid man.
