- 'THE V Foundation Drill Unlock your batting potential in 3 steps'
THE V Foundation Drill is the essential starting point for optimising your training with THE V. This three-part targeted drill lays the groundwork for batters to fast-track their batting skills and can be easily customised to suit individual skill levels. By ensuring proper setup and alignment, this drill optimises your training time, empowering batters to build a solid foundation for success.
Here’s how to unlock your batting potential with this foundational routine:
First, refer to the 'Get Set Up Right' video to ensure your unit is set up with the optimal settings.
1. Front foot drive/ defence. Get Centrally Positioned
Align your leading elbow and shoulder with the sharp end of THE V net and get into a good side-on, balanced, ready position.
Action: Target and play gently through L1 seven times, playing every second ball. The first four shots are front-foot defensive, focusing on making contact with the ball under your eyeline and 'middling the ball.' The following three shots are front-foot drives. This rhythm allows time to reset and perfect technique. (Left-handers will target R1 for this shot.)
2.Drive/Defence Weight Transfer/Fast Hands
Stay centrally aligned, focusing on weight transfer forward and back and shot control.
Action: Target L1 14 times, hitting every ball as it returns. Alternate between:
On-drives, transferring weight through the ball.
Soft-handed shots off the back foot under the eyeline, targeting mid-on (L1) for right-handers or (R1) for left-handers.
Key Focus: Perfect weight transfer forward for drives and back for light touch under the eyeline.
3. Targeted Sweep / Reverse Sweep
Align yourself with the tripod leg at the open end of THE V net, aiming for precision in sweep shots.
Action: Play three targeted sweeps, followed by three targeted reverse sweeps playing every second ball, allowing time to reset between shots :
Target R1 for the first sweep.
Target L1 for the second.
Target L2 for the third. (Left-handers will target in the sequence L1, R1, R2.)
Alignment:
For the sweep: Right-handers align with the left leg.
For the reverse sweep: Right-handers align with the right leg.
THE V Foundation Drill drill is perfect for batters needing to be effectively warmed up on the boundary prior to their innings.
