    What was funny is that when the fans turned on I got a cool breeze where I was. Also there is the coin trick on water bowls that keeps it cleaner and turns urine blue so you can tell when they've peed in the water.

    • @markusbird1545
      @markusbird1545 2 года назад

      Isn’t that for U.S? 1cnt coins?

    • @jacobpospischil
      @jacobpospischil 2 года назад +1

      @@markusbird1545 it should still work with Australian coins because silver works too as they're alloys

      On another note I believe that I have come across an eastern beardie during the summer in the blue mountains around 310m above sea level. I think it's one of them though because it was clearly a lizard, orange mouth and it seemed to puff out because I walked right next to it.

    I live in southern Florida in the US and we contend with hot days, tho definitely not as hot as Australia. I have had decent success running an AC unit in the reptile room to make sure the air pulled into the enclosures is nice and cool. The AC unit in the room has the added benefit of fighting off the smell too! I love the wifi timers and the inkbird thermostats and will be buying a few to help maintain my collection!

    Hi Coop great ideas mate definitely gunna get some fans. Circulate some more air in the Boyd’s enclosure. I’ve got a fan in the top corner of my reptile room with two exhaust fans, large vent in lower section of PA door as well as several ducted vents in the ceiling. Possibly overkill but gets great circulation of the air. Use one of those fans to circulate air in my incubator too. Cheers mate

    Great video mate.
    I've had all my enclosures with full automation for a while and it's great but a word of caution for anyone thinking of trying it.. NEVER rely on smart devices alone for heat lights. At the end of the day they have a chip in them and I've had a range of different plug brands just randomly decide to not respond. So if you ever go down the route of smart thermostats alway use them with a physical thermostat Incase the plug loses connection.
    I have a room thermostat that turns off all the heat lights if the room hits 30c but they all have individual thermostats as backups.
    I also use smart home stuff to vary daylight hours and control misting systems it really is fantastic but be diligent and plan for the worst.
    There is nothing more gut wrenching that one of your animals dying or getting hurt when it was preventable

    I'm having issues with my bearded dragon enclosure it's just too hot. Were having hot Miami,FL weather. His basking temp is good but his cool side is still over 90 degrees. He spends all day under his hide on the cool side, I assume because he's desperate to cool down. The only solution I can see is installing fans. I'm gonna try it out. Hope it works.

     @Coop's Reptiles what is your opinion of using isopods from the garden? I have been looking everywhere but Australia doesn't seem to have many suppliers.

    Nice video! Beat me to doing a video on this topic.
    The computer fans are really useful. it works great for cooling boyds down if you combine it with water spraying for an evaporative cooling effect. Spraying water alone without air flow will just increase humidity and holds the heat even better in the enclosure.

    The grid connect stuff is good. I use it on some of my reptile enclosures I may just get some more in the future. I was watching your enclosure build video the other day as I’m looking at building a larger enclosure for a couple of my reptiles. With the formply, I noticed that theres a pine and a radiator pine formply. Just wanted to see does it matter which one you get?

    Good Stuff. So you use the wifi to set the arlec on/off times, or change remotely, but it holds the instructions without internet connection? I bought these sweet smart thermometer & hygrometer devices so that I could check temps when I’m at work, but have been having dramas with it going offline during the day (or more accurately the hub required to link to them goes offline) and not being able to see the temps, making them worthless. 😩 Now I’m wary. But if I used the Arlec for UV lights and it maintained the timing instruction even if it lost wifi at home, that would be okay, as I wouldn’t rely on it for temp control.

    • @coopsreptiles2588
      @coopsreptiles2588  2 года назад +2

      Yes mate my wifi goes to trash all the time and the units keep their timing as long as they aren’t switched off

    If you turn off the temperature system do you have to reset it or does it remember and keep going?
