$5 Chinese Wastegate Mod- Lower the PSI on your wastegate actuator

  • Are you overboosting? Running way too much PSI on your internal wastegate and want to lower it? Chinese turbos come with internal wastegates that often have way to stiff of a spring that runs higher PSI than you want to. This mod can take your 15-25 psi wastegate and allow you to run 5-10psi. Best part is, it only runs around $5 in parts.

    Thanks for the info man. I figured I was going to have to replace my wastegate since it was sprung way to hard for my application.

    Really great idea. I have a similar issue with currently hitting around 10psi and I'd like to drop it to 7 to 8 until I can get everything properly Dyno tuned. I'll be trying that this weekend.

      It works. Just buy a few different springs to test it out.

    This is awesome! I’m close to initial startup of my L28ET 240Z with some protunerz goodies and a maxpeeding rods T3 billet turbo, I’m very skeptical of the wastegate that came on the turbo so I’ve enabled boost cut on my standalone for 11psi. If this mod really does help you are a genius and I owe you a beer 😂

    @SylasG 4 года назад +3

    If you don't preload the actuator so much then you don't need as much spring assist like you're using. It should be minimal preload on the rod usually.

    I would be worried about the wastegate not closing fast enough after it opens.... Exhaust gas keeping it open because there isn't enough spring pressure to close it

    • @BuildingTheEXOCET
      @BuildingTheEXOCET  4 года назад +1

      I think that's a reasonable worry. I did not have this issue at all and I ran this hard for a year at autox. I'm on a new turbo now, but someone else bought this one and still runs it

    Great info. I wonder if you got a stiff enough spring you could get it down to 2-3 PSI. I'm going to be turbocharging an old carbed motorcycle soon and I'd like to keep the pressure low.

    You do realize you have to plug your air gun with your finger when you're adjusting your air regulator , correct?

    • @BuildingTheEXOCET
      @BuildingTheEXOCET  4 года назад +3

      Not if you want the correct flow reading. By pulling the trigger on the gun and measuring the flow going through the meter it shows the actual flow when it's being used.

    • @BEANS-O-MATICtransmissions
      @BEANS-O-MATICtransmissions 4 года назад +6

      @@BuildingTheEXOCET but you're not measuring flow, you're measuring psi. That's a dead end test into a waste gate, not flow. Re do the test starting at the lowest setting on the regulator, remove the blow gun and attach the WG. Increase pressure while measuring rod movement.

      @@BuildingTheEXOCET YEAH air does not flow through the actuator, if it is then it has a punctured diaphragm. I see that when you pull the trigger there is a sound of air rushing out of where?

    Hello. What length is the spring? I’m wondering if a 6lb.recoil spring from a glock would fit properly. I have a gt28 turbo and I don’t want boost pressure rising over 7lbs.

  • @cosmicpanther63
    @cosmicpanther63 9 месяцев назад

    It's okay to lower the boost without tuning? I just bought an eclipse that runs 28psi. I need to lower it for now because I'm not comfortable with it

      Kinda late, but it will be fine. You'll lose power and it will run rich, most likely

  • @MotorMonks919
    @MotorMonks919 2 года назад

    Hey, I'm about to do this to my turbo which is the same as yours. Is the boost pressure typically "read" when the wastegate flapper is completely opened, or is it the pressure when it is cracked open?

    • @BuildingTheEXOCET
      @BuildingTheEXOCET  2 года назад +2

      It should be read all the time. The max boost should be where it holds when the gate is completely open. If you have the same turbo as me you will need to port the wastegate opening quite a bit.
      This just allows you wastegate "flapper" to open sooner to bleed the pressure off quicker. Mine stock was not opening completely until like 15 psi so I ported the gate opening in the turbo then added this spring in order to make it open sooner.
