  • Please excuse the radical departure from my normal blues related content. I heard a friend play this song the other day and was reminded how much I like The Police; Andy Summers in particular. The guitar parts for this track are just completely badass and I thought I'd do a quickie cover so folks could see what's going on with it. The guitar is a 2002 Fender Custom Telecaster with Fralin pickups. It is my main guitar for all non-Les Paul gigs and I love it. I went straight into Garageband and messed around with the Marshall model until I got sorta close to the sound Andy got on record. This also involved a ton of reverb, delay, chorus and compression which were added via the virtual pedalboard. Enjoy.

I never realized how much Andy Summers harmonized on top of himself...like in Message in a Bottle! Had no idea till just recently!

*how* am I only finding this channel. I litrerally was just losing my mind as I came over browsed videos and saw all of the great content here. I was drawn in by all of the amazing Allman Bros content and didn't even have The Police on my radar at that moment but, dang! I think Andy Summers deserves mad props for being able to create such a great sound in a three piece where the bass player is leading everything. He's a chord and melody master carving out a great sound almost entirely on the treble strings. They all are crazy good for crying out loud, Copland and his side projects? Anyway...lol...I dig it. All of it. No excuses needed, good music is good music.

Amazing cover! Just saw in the recommended you did a Duane allman layla lesson but stupid copyright took it down. Is there anyway to see that lesson? No one does a good one really on youtube but youve got that duane stuff down so im sure it would be great and that ones a little tricky and way high up on the neck

thank you! Yeah, I don't know what is going on with my Layla video. RUclips shows it as "partially blocked" but I'm still getting new views, so apparently certain people can see it. Anyway message me on Facebook (Brian "Willie" Williams) and I'll send it to you on google drive. It's just a cover, not really a lesson. But the solo is isolated so you can hear the slide perfectly, and you can use the "playback speed" feature on YT to slow it down to see what's going on. Honestly, it's such a feel thing and so high on the neck that it would be really hard to do a proper lesson. Thanks for the comment!
