  • A collection of leaked US intelligence documents suggest Ukraine's air defenses could soon run out of missiles.
The reports dating from February appeared on social media sites and appeared to detail US and NATO aid to Ukraine. Their contents suggest the US has been spying on both Russia and Ukraine's military, and gathering intelligence on its NATO allies. The US Justice Department is scrambling to find the source of the leak, with officials saying Russia or Pro-Russian supporters are likely behind it.

The fact that US would spy on allies is not a surprise. Neither is it a surprise that other countries in Nato would spy on each other also. That's completely normal actually and to say "spying" isn't even saying much because under that phrase "spying" there are covered many activities, some of which are even well known and completely accepted by all Nato countries themselves. I really don't see much issue with this "supposed" "bomb shell leak".

One of the issues here is that people who have access to this information presumably also have access to more sensitive information.
At the same time, disclosing such information, even if publicly known, goes against all contracts and shows massive unprofessionalism of someone in a position of considerable status. Hence why finding out whether this information was stolen or disclosed by someone in a position of power is critical, to avoid further such even more important leaks

Ben Hodges has been very consistent with his perspective. He's been saying that Ukraine needs precision long range artillery to disrupt the Russian operations and logistics since last summer. He also has been consistently saying the NATO allied countries need to stop dragging their feet on transferring Mig fighter jets to Ukraine. I believe he was saying that in March of last year.
If the Russian airbases in Crimea were not operational the Russians would have a more difficult time providing air support to the front lines, especially on the southern front. If the Russian navy thought their ships were not safe in the port of Sevastopol then they would move those ships out. Without air and long range support, the Russian army would have a harder time holding onto their position in the southern front. The sooner Ukraine gets what they need to end this quickly the better.

They have long range missiles already. One thing to consider also is that if Ukraine is able to make it back to the sea of Azov in this counter offensive, which I think they will, the Kerch bridge will be within range and the entire peninsula will not be able to be supplied at a sustainable rate. Not just for war supplies, but everything else as well, supporting a population there military or otherwise will be untenable. So I think that's what will happen, they will block it off, destroy the bridge, target aircraft and ships, but otherwise focus to the east while supplies in Crimea dwindle. But who know's I'm no general.

For your education given your silly drive-by reply, there were some M16 introduction problems, jamming issues, not blowing up. A long quote follows from *The Tragic Failure of the M16 in Vietnam* by Bob Orkand and Lyman Duryea.
Problems appeared immediately. Soldiers were often not adequately trained to maintain the new rifle (in fact some were told the new rifle was “self-cleaning”), nor were they always given cleaning supplies or instructions.
The harsh jungle climate corroded the rifle’s chamber, exacerbated by the manufacturer’s decision against chrome-plating the chamber. The ammunition that accompanied the rifles sent to Vietnam was incompatible with the M16 and was the principal cause of the failure to extract malfunctions.
The result was the M16 often jammed, making the rifle “about as effective as a muzzleloader,” in the words of one officer. Men were killed in combat because they couldn’t return fire until the malfunction was cleared.
Congress investigated and the rifle and its ammunition were incrementally modified, greatly improving its reliability over the next few years. Troop training was also improved. But the damage to the M16’s reputation could not be undone, and many soldiers remained deeply skeptical of their rifle through the war’s end."

On the contrary, at the moment it seems very messy and as if the alliance does not know which way to go and what to do. Ukraine must have F16 aircraft, so start training their pilots asap. And give them the missiles they think they need most, long-range artillery, anti-aircraft defense, etc.The longer it is dragged out, the more death and destruction. That's for sure.

I only just started watching DW news segments on RUclips, and I've been impressed, but this interviewer is the first one I've seen who I felt was leaning on the interviewee in search of an alarming or inflammatory answer. She had just reported that the leak may have come from Russia itself - if it did, then alarmism regarding Russia's impending air dominance would be playing directly into Russia's hands and rewarding them for their strategic leak. The mere possibility should have her behaving much more conservatively with these questions.

People describe Crimea as a peninsula, but it's only a peninsula if you are Ukraine. If you are Russia then Crimea is actually an island, and that makes the logistics (which Russia is already not that good at) a big problem.
If Ukraine prevents Russia from having a land bridge to Crimea then Crimea falls to Ukraine (maybe fast, maybe slow, but it falls).

With out Sevastopol the Russian navy is badly hobbled ... always has been. But that port goes with Ukraine by a simple read of the geography. They have made Ukraine an enemy... and taking Crimea by force seems to be too heavy a lift for them.

65.4% of the people living there are ethnically Russians and 15% Ukrainian. Kiev has no legitimate claim to that region.
