Saw an interesting article the other day. (for educational purposes only). There is a reason that most countries polled in December 2013 by Gallup called the United States the greatest threat to peace in the world, and why Pew found that viewpoint increased in 2017. But it is a reason that eludes that strain of U.S. academia that first defines war as something that nations and groups other than the United States do, and then concludes that war has nearly vanished from the earth. Since World War II, during a supposed golden age of peace, the United States military has killed or helped kill some 20 million people, overthrown at least 36 governments, interfered in at least 85 foreign elections, attempted to assassinate over 50 foreign leaders, and dropped bombs on people in over 30 countries. The United States is responsible for the deaths of 5 million people in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia, and over 1 million just since 2003 in Iraq. Since 2001, the United States has been systematically destroying a region of the globe, bombing Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Libya, Somalia, Yemen, and Syria, not to mention the Philippines. The United States has “special forces” operating in two-thirds of the world’s countries and non-special forces in three-quarters of them. The U.S. government provides weapons, military training, and/or military funding to almost every dictatorship and oppressive government on earth. See my 2020 book 20 Dictators Currently Supported by the U.S. U.S. weapons are used on both sides of many wars. In an attempt to quantify U.S. warmaking, I’ve copied below lists from these sources: David Vine: The United States of War William Blum: America’s Deadliest Export: Democracy Dr. Zoltan Grossman: A Century of U.S. Military Interventions James Lucas: U.S. Has Killed More Than 20 Million People From David Vine’s The United States at War: A list of wars (italic) and of military combat that for some reason isn’t called a war (non-italic) that does not attempt to include every war and combat against Native Americans: 1774-1883 Shawnee, Delaware 1776 Cherokee 1777-1781 Iroquois Confederacy (Haudenosaunee) 1780-1794 Chickamauga 1790-1795 Miami Confederacy 1792-1793 Muskogee (Creek) 1798-1801 France 1801-1805 Tripoli 1806 Mexico 1806-1810 Spanish, French privateers 1810 Spanish West Florida 1810-1813 Shawnee Confederacy 1812 Spanish Florida 1812-1815 Canada (Great Britain) 1812-1815 Dakota Sioux 1812-1815 Iroquois Confederacy (Haudenosaunee) 1813 Spanish West Florida 1813-1814 Marquesas Islands 1813-1814 Muskogee (Creek) Confederacy 1814 Spanish Florida 1814-1825 Pirates 1815 Algiers 1815 Tripoli 1816 Spanish Florida 1817 Spanish Florida 1817-1819 Seminole 1818 Oregon (Russia, Spain) 1820-1861 African Slave Trade Patrol 1822-1825 Cuba (Spain 1824 Puerto Rico (Spain) 1827 Greece 1831-1832 Falkland Islands 1832 Sauk 1832 Sumatra 1833 Argentina 1835-1836 Peru 1835-1842 Seminole 1836 Mexico 1836-1837 Muskogee (Creek) 1838-1839 Sumatra 1840 Fiji Islands 1841 Samoa 1841 Tabiteuea 1842 Mexico 1843 China 1844 Mexico 1846-1848 Mexico 1847-1850 Cayuse 1849 Turkey 1850-1886 Apache 1851 Johanna Island 1851 Turkey 1852-1853 Argentina 1853-1854 Japan 1853-1854 Nicaragua 1853-1854 Ryukyu, Ogasawara islands 1854-1856 China 1855 Fiji Islands 1855 Uruguay 1855-1856 Rogue River Indigenous Peoples 1855-1856 Yakima, Walla Walla, Cayuse 1855-1858 Seminole 1856 Panama (Colombia) 1856-1857 Cheyenne 1857 Nicaragua 1858 Coeur d’Alene Alliance 1858 Fiji Islands 1858 Uruguay 1858-1859 Turkey 1859 China 1859 Mexico 1859 Paraguay 1860 Angola 1860 Colombia 1862 Sioux 1863-1864 Japan 1864 Cheyenne 1865 Panama (Colombia) 1866 China 1866 Mexico 1866-1868 Lakota Siouw, Northern Cheyenne, Northern Arapaho 1867 Formosa (Taiwan) 1867 Nicaragua 1867-1875 Comanche 1868 Colombia 1868 Japan 1868 Uruguay 1870 Hawaii 1871 Korea 1872-1873 Modoc 1873 Colombia (Panama) 1873-1896 Mexico 1874 Hawaii 1874-1875 Comanche, Apache, Arapaho, Cheyenne, Kiowa 1876-1877 Sioux 1877 Nez Perce 1878 Bannock (Banna’kwut) 1878-1879 Cheyenne 1879-1880 Utes 1882 Egypt 1885 Panama (Colombia) 1888 Haiti 1888 Korea 1888-1889 Samoa 1889 Hawaii 1890 Argentina 1890 Lakota Sioux 1891 Bering Straight 1891 Chile 1891 Haiti 1893 Hawaii 1894 Brazil 1894 Nicaragua 1894-1895 China 1894-1896 Korea 1895 Panama (Colombia) 1896 Nicaragua 1898 Cuba (Spain) 1898 Nicaragua 1898 Philippines (Spain) 1898 Puerto Rico (Spain) 1898-1899 China 1899 Nicaragua 1899 Samoa 1899-1913 Philippines 1900 China 1901-1902 Colombia 1903 Dominican Republic 1903 Honduras 1903 Syria 1903-1904 Abyssinia (Ethiopia) 1903-1914 Panama 1904 Dominican Republic 1904 Tangier 1904-1905 Korea 1906-1909 Cuba 1907 Honduras 1909-1910 Nicaragua 1911-1912 Honduras 1911-1914 China 1912 Cuba 1912 Turkey 1912-1933 Nicaragua 1914 Dominican Republic 1914 Haiti 1914-1919 Mexico 1915-1934 Haiti 1916-1924 Dominican Republic 1917-1918 World War I (Europe) 1917-1922 Cuba 1918-1920 Russia 1918-1921 Panama 1919 Dalmatia 1919 Turkey 1919-1920 Honduras 1925 Panama 1932 El Salvador 1941-1945 World War II (Europe, North Africa, Asia/Pacific) 1946 Trieste 1947-1949 Greece 1948-1949 Berlin, Germany 1950 Formosa (Taiwan) 1950-1953 Korea 1953-1954 Formosa (Taiwan) 1955-1975 Vietnam 1956 Egypt 1958 Lebanon 1962 Cuba 1962 Thailand 1962-1975 Laos 1964 Congo (Zaire) 1965 Dominican Republic 1965-1973 Cambodia 1967 Congo (Zaire) 1976 Korea 1978 Congo (Zaire) 1980 Iran 1981 El Salvador 1981 Libya 1981-1989 Nicaragua 1982-1983 Egypt 1982-1983 Lebanon 1983 Chad 1983 Grenada 1986 Bolivia 1986 Libya 1987-1988 Iran 1988 Panama 1989 Bolivia 1989 Colombia 1989 Libya 1989 Peru 1989 Philippines 1989-1990 Panama 1990 Saudi Arabia 1991 Congo (Zaire) 1991-1992 Kuwait 1991-1993 Iraq 1992-1994 Somalia 1993-1994 Macedonia 1993-1996 Haiti 1993-2005 Bosnia 1995 Serbia 1996 Liberia 1996 Rwanda 1997-2003 Iraq 1998 Afghanistan 1998 Sudan 1999-2000 Kosovo 1999-2000 Montenegro 1999-2000 Serbia 2000 Yemen 2000-2002 East Timor 2000-2016 Colombia 2001 - Mr. Max DC why you say so? Mr. Sachs is so right and unbiased. He talks like a human-being, sensible and logical. Don'to be fooled by the US govt narrative.
I was saddened to hear the news caster trying again and again to get Jeffrey Sachs to say that the war was Russia's fault. And it was even more encouraging to see that Jeffrey Sachs courageously refusing to do so and flatly laying the blame at the feet of those who actually instigated the whole episode and the continuously obstructing any attempts at a negotiated settlement.
Russia attacked and attacked over the last twenty years. You think if NATO didn’t expand Russia wouldn’t attack? I don’t think so. The ethnic Russian population is dying off, Putin knows this, and this is his way of trying to expand his borders to more defensible positions. If not Ukraine, it would have been Poland.
Having your people bombed for eight years straight and seeing the enemy closing in on your borders with clear belligerent intent is sufficient justification for war to me.
I no longer watch CNN or any western media news but I only watched this because of Prof Sachs. The world is in such an awful situation now is because of the provocative US and NATO. Thank you Prof Sachs for calling US and NATO on the carpet!

Russia won the war, so it should not leave parts of Ukraine that is vital for its national security, given how the US and Nato is so aggressive in their expansion.. Russia should stay in Ukraine, just like Israel has never withdrew from the land they occupied after winning 2 wars against Arab countries.. it has been almost 60 years west bank and Golan heights are still under Israel occupation.. and no Nato countries ever cared about it.. so yes, Russia has the right to just follow what Israel had done.. and even better, because the Russian speaking people in that part of Ukraine really loves Russia than the Azov Nazi lovers Ukraine !!!
Prof: John Mearsheirmer and the late Dr. Stephen Cohen spoke vehemently about this crisis several years ago, but most people fallowed the msm blindly without any critical thinking.
as much as Richard tried to make it all about Putin, the professor turned the focus back on to the main issue and logically explained the whole situation in less then 5 minutes. BRAVO! The professor makes a lot of sense. He needs to convince members of the defense-industry complex and Republican members of Congress who may or may not rely on financial contributions of the arms producers. It is time that U.S. adopt a law outlawing the lobbying of gun dealers, weapon producers and outlawing political donation from these interest groups. Whoever runs for government positions should be barred from taking donations from the gun/weapon dealers and manufacturers. Isn't it clear who can benefit from American wars overseas?
Don't be idiotic, Russia had no intention of invading/attacking Sweden or Finland. It comes down to weak leadership from those two countries. They reacted to their fear rather than fact. Prof Sacks is totally correct.
And thats gonna make more problems. Russia will put their nukes next to Finland and Sweden border, in Kaliningrad, they will help US and NATO enemies like Iran having Nukes, and the world will be more divided. One side is West (EU and US in general), other side will be Russia, China, Iran, Africa, South America and some more. And Im telling you, the Russian side will be more powerful and stronger militarily and economically. They already have 60% of the world population. They will have more then half of the world economy. But these will happen in more than 20years. It has already started.
I just had a conversation with some Swedish friends. When I suggested that by giving up neutrality they were giving up their freedom by becoming puppets of the US run NATO. They replied that it was better then being invaded by Russia. This is the kind of foolish nonsense that the main stream Swedish media is spewing . My friends thought that they were next on Putin's hit list.
Jeffrey Sachs seems almost always right. We have divided the world, and that arose from competition, and from capitalist acquisition and accumulation. The ultimate answer must lie in the simple notion that people must cooperate. We must all live on this planet with caring for the rest of the people. Through cooperation we rise; through the market place we are divided and must fail.
Sanity from Jeffrey Sachs. Good for him for keeping his cool in face of "fight to the last Ukrainian" pro-war questioning on the part of CNNs State Department stenographer.
J Sachs is absolutely right. For those who are sympathetic with the Ukraine rights, they shouldn't forget Cuba rights over Guantanamo, Syria over its oil fields, Yemen over foreign invasion to name a few. But many will turn a blind eye, sadly.
It is already happening, applications to join BRI and BRICS have been inncreasing weekly. Even KSA applied for BRICS which means the death of petrodollar rule over the world.. 70% of the world now is outside of the US empire, and represents all the growing economies. I an American who has been living in Russia for 22 years and can see daily the more optimistic views and confidence that result in Russia turning its back on the empire and Europe after centuries of abuse and hostilities from the west. The majority of Russians clearly want all trade to end but Russia always honors contracts and treaties so Europe will still get resources needed for its declining industries until the contracts expire. They will not be renewed however so the US and Europe are going to wish they had not been so aggressive about threatening Russia by moving US missiles right up to Russia's border as it has been doing for 7 decades. Everyone in the west it talking about prices increasing but they are at least getting those commodities but soon will not get them at any price. Russia is simply not going to trade countries that are hostile aggressors. Europe is in a triple bind, a vassal to the US, having no say in their own future and being cut off from the rapidly expanding second pole of the new multi-polar world that was created in March when the US broke apart its ownn unipolar workd order. 70% of the world population is now outside the US empire. The massive change has not hit Americans yet but soon will. Even KSA is moving to the second pole so the dollar will no longer be the world reserve currency. That changes everything. Why all the world moving away from the empire? Simple, they are all victims of western imperialism and Russia has exposed the US and NATO as weak and ineffective so the targetted world is moving to the exit door. The US ruled as Europe did for 400 years, by violence and aggression but now the world sees when it sticks together, the US and its NATO are beatable.
If people learn to look things from other people's point of view, and treat other people the way he/she want to be treated, the world would have less troubles. If from the start Ukraine can be made to be a neutral country backed and guaranteed by both Russia and Western powers, the Ukrainian would not have to suffer as they are now, and the world would have experience less problems as it does now.
The war ends when Russia decides to end it, either by leaving a landlocked Ukraine as a buffer, or by taking it all. NATO (read the US) has LOST not only the military war but also the economic war. The US should acknowledge this reality and work to build a lasting peace (wishful thinking).
@@nomatusi7514 exactly!!!! I hope they just disappear into sunset with their lies since they are not held accountable and get away with all their lies that killed millions of innocent people in the world. Shame on them…
“Russia needs to leave [Ukraine], but the United States doesn’t need to fill in afterwards. That’s the basic point.” The Soviet Union left Ukraine in the early nineties. The USA, the EU, and the whole Atlantic Alliance immediately “filled in” already, three decades ago. That is why Russia is back in Ukraine, that is why Russia directly involved itself in a military conflict. This is what the USA wanted all along. Either was this current bloodbath in Ukraine, or it would have been later in Russian territory, with NATO nuclear, ballistic missiles, and massive number of troops amassed along the old Ukrainian- Russian borden.
Jeffrey Sachs is one of the very few rational, anti-war voices. If our leaders were listening to advice from persons like him, our world would not have these ridiculous problems of military aggression. The other anti-war voices are actually pro-war, if we look at their actions/goals/perspectives. But certainly it’s very difficult for a true anti-war position to prevail. Our leaders get money from arms corporations and fossil fuels corporations.
Agreed. A negotiated settlement back in March could have seen the war ending with Ukraine mostly intact. However, the longer this war drags on, and the longer the Russians bear the brunt of Western animosity, sanctions, and weapon (in Ukrainian hands), the more the Russians harden against the West... and the less willing they are to walk away from the war without extracting their pound of flesh.
Russia will leave but taking the eastern region of Ukraine which is what they have been telling the US since 2008. Right after the NATO 2008 summit in Bucharest where they decided to invite Georgia and Ukraine to NATO, Putin gave NATO a redline and said "Don't do that! If you do that then there will be a war and Ukraine will join NATO but without Crimea and the eastern Ukraine region", which is exactly what Russia is doing right now.
Yeah the only question is the longer this war goes on and Ukraine and the West refuse to negotiate, does that mean other areas like Odessa and Kharkov will be taken by the Russians? I think there’s a good possibility that more of Eastern and Southern Ukraine will be in Russian hands, like we have seen with the Kherson region.
I stopped watching CNN because of their biased perspective on global matters but the fact that Professor Sachs was talking made me watch this video. Once again, Prof. Sachs lands each point of discussion on a pin head. I wish world leaders would listen to him.
Explain this: America says she adhere to the one China policy. Then surely the right thing to do is to encourage Taiwan to prepare for reunification with China? To say one thing, and then give hope to Taiwan to go independence, isn't it crooked.
I am thankful for this professor, honesty it's very hard to come by in this world. Germany, France, Italy and others are feeling the pinch but can step up and say this is all wrong. Let Putin bring them hell....
Finally a balanced outstanding interview. CNN needs to also bring on Prof. John Mearsheimer from the Univ. of Chicago. He also will help bring honesty to this discussion. Well done Prof. Sachs.
The people in the administration were supposed to be strategic thinkers, not some kindergarten children keep shouting, "I did nothing wrong", "we should be allowed to do this" or "he started it." The policy towards Russia was a disaster.

In an attempt to quantify U.S. warmaking, I’ve copied below lists from these sources:
David Vine: The United States of War
William Blum: America’s Deadliest Export: Democracy
Dr. Zoltan Grossman: A Century of U.S. Military Interventions
James Lucas: U.S. Has Killed More Than 20 Million People

This is the second time I have seen this pair discuss Ukraine at CNN. I get the impression that Sachs is a familiar guest on this program.

They have absol no fear of invasion, they're just playing to the gallery.
yes and Russia also didnt intend to invade Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova...

So glad Russia is standing up to the oligarchs in the USA and EU. Hopefully a better world for humanity.
No, no, no.....see in America they're called entrepreneurs.......😆
Finally, CNN has a commentator that says something worthwhile
I am surprised this got thru the gate at cnn. Anyone want to dispute this?
Increasing the rate? CNN has been losing viewers esp after the Russian military operation in Ukraine....
They know they are losing. They have to let out the truth bit by bit. At they end they will say. I told you so during such and such.
@@nomatusi7514 🤣🤣🤣🤣 And that way they make it look like they were always on the truthful track.
@@henthust9784 After all the lies they will have one line to repeat the whole day how they were truthful.
@@nomatusi7514 exactly!!!! I hope they just disappear into sunset with their lies since they are not held accountable and get away with all their lies that killed millions of innocent people in the world. Shame on them…
A lot of people probably don't want to hear it but there are very few people who can speak with the authority of Jeffrey Sachs.
I agree with the professor. United States screw this up.
always they do.
Jeffrey Sachs is the true American hero!
“Russia needs to leave [Ukraine], but the United States doesn’t need to fill in afterwards. That’s the basic point.”
The Soviet Union left Ukraine in the early nineties.
I totally agree with this man .God bless you 🙏 ♥️
What would America do if Russia put missiles in Cuba
We already know the answer to that one 😂
@@jaypeters5224 How do we know that hasn’t happened is the question!
What they did...say to go away or else there would be WW3.
Russia was trying to negotiate with the usa and Ukraine, but when zelensky said that he would get nukes, hours later Russia attacked.
And then we hear from every corner “unProVoKeD invasion”. Really?
Professor Sachs is the wisest and one of the voices of reason in the US. He should be listened to. A man of great humanity and integrity
Sachs a man of humanity and integrity .Simple a man with human face .May you live long .The world needs you.
He's responsible for turning Russia into our enemy in 1991 because he helped preside over the Russian economy being stolen from the Russian people
Addicted to war USA government ☺️
I don't care what Jeffrey Sachs'political views are , he's a great reference to real events rather than western propaganda .
Wow! Yeah I’m surprised that CNN will let this aired.
Thank you prof. Sachs
Sachs is right on the money. However Russia isn't leaving. Too late for that.
And amerika and it’s NATO allies, always trying to make a buck on other peoples lives, are to blame. Negotiating time has past.
It can at least be negotiated. The point right now is NATO is telling Ukraine you shouldn't negotiate, you should try to beat Russia.
Prof. Sachs, hats off! Always appreciate your insights into the root cause and truth of an issue. Mainstream media and propaganda cannot fool you.
Kudos to Prof. Sachs!👍
True talk, Let keep deceiving ourselves by suffering and smiling.Table has turned.
Absolutely correct
I stopped watching CNN because of their biased perspective on global matters but the fact that Professor Sachs was talking made me watch this video. Once again, Prof. Sachs lands each point of discussion on a pin head. I wish world leaders would listen to him.
This is exactly how this war started. Hopefully the history books will document the US/UK's roles in this tragic war.
History has is documented well. Even though US&UK spread their hate and propaganda, they can’t cover up the truth.
Wish there were more wise person like professor Sachs in the US and the world.
Much respect for Prof. Sachs but he's never getting called back to CNN - The channel is allergic to the truth.
Alérgic??? Cnn is against the truth. 🤣
☺️
Thank u Prof Sachs..🙏👍💪❤️
Jeffrey Sachs has earned my respect! Nice interview!
Great man this guy and hope the west and US take his advice seriously for the good of humanity.
The US provoked and continues to provoke, and then says ‘unprovoked war’ and everyone else says yes, unprovoked war. How’s that possible?
Did US force anyone to join NATO
Because everyone else is a coward and a hypocrite
Blame USA!
Hateful propaganda. The US perfectioned it.
US is doing the same thing to China especially at China sea.
This man spoke the TRUTH 100% 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Finally a balanced outstanding interview. CNN needs to also bring on Prof. John Mearsheimer from the Univ. of Chicago. He also will help bring honesty to this discussion. Well done Prof. Sachs.
i agree 100% with Jeffery.
A wise man. "Russia needs to leave, and the US doesn't need to fill in afterward". Pitty that politicians in the US don't quite agree.
The economy at home will tell them. Those politician will be voted out comes November.
@@nomatusi7514 No so sure about that. The US political establishment is so anti-Russia it will take far more economic pain for them to back off.
@@bbbbbbears6999 This is like Iraq war. War based on lies. Many people know that. Scott Ritter talks about this.
Russia has left, they left Ukraine alone and the US filled right in.
Russia now is paying the price for thinking they can trust the west.
@@marrchy2682 Yes you are right. That's why I said the US politicians didn't quite agree with Prof Sachs.
Thanks Jeff you put him in his place
The people in the administration were supposed to be strategic thinkers, not some kindergarten children keep shouting, "I did nothing wrong", "we should be allowed to do this" or "he started it." The policy towards Russia was a disaster.
So glad to see Prof Jeff Sachs on CNN. Good job Richard for inviting him, despite of all the disagreements.
Richard Quest was so worried that his viewers might actually learn something. Wonder why he booked Prof Sachs. Perhaps he assumed the Professor was part of the famous Wall Street banking racket?
Well at least maybe once CNN audience heard the truth this episode!
