    June Foray did voices in animated projects including Granny in Looney Tunes, Rocky in The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle, Witch Hazel in both Disney and Looney Tunes, Wheezy in Who Framed Roger Rabbit (a live action and animated film), Grandmother Fa in Mulan, a few voices in The Wonderful World of Disney and Lucifer in Cinderella

      She really was a remarkably talented woman! I'm so not good with voices. I don't know how those people do it. In Mel Blanc interviews he used to make it sound so easy about how to find dialects, but it's just so out of my wheelhouse I can't help but be impressed. Thanks so much for watching and sharing.

      Do you ever do voiceover work, or considered it?

    • @disfarers
      @disfarers  7 месяцев назад +1

      Ha! I once did a voice over for a character in my early twenties. It was so bad and I was so monotone that they didn't want to use it, but ultimately did use it just to spare my feelings. Though I told them that they shouldn't use it. So...no, I've never considered voice acting. If you happen to ever watch my first episode you'll see that my voice two years ago was still very monotone even up to that point. The "Disfarers' voice" as I call it developed over the short history of the channel.

    Walt having reservations on whether or not the Pirates should be shown auctioning off women was about whether the subject matter fit the family-friendly atmosphere of Disneyland he had worked diligently to cultivate, not whether it was historically accurate or not. But it was BECAUSE it was factual that he couldn't deny it. Marc Davis' enlightened theme for the ride put to bed any serious tones it conveyed historically.
    Walt didn't want alcohol in Disneyland, either, so it's a bit hypocritical to say Walt would be ok with the 2018 change as he probably wouldn't be ok with A LOT of what the Disney company has done to his legacy. Activists seeking change in the parks and the films always recite that 'Disneyland they never be completed' quote by Walt but they never finish it, and they forget the opening day commencement that said Disneyland would be about the hard facts that shaped America. Changing the auction scene wasn't about imagination, it was about whitewashing history so Iger's Disney could capitalize on woke modernism while selling Hurricanes at Blue Bayou. Believing anything else is so very naive.

    • @disfarers
      @disfarers  7 месяцев назад +1

      Whoa. Okay, there's a lot you unpacked there with no adjectives about your feelings about the episode, but that aside, I think we're mostly of one mind here. I just didn't unearth any information about the decision of the auction scene being made due to historical accuracy. If you have an article or know of a book mentioning more about Walt and the scene I'd really like to read it. I was planning on digging further into the scene for another episode.
      I don't believe it's hypocritical of me to say Walt would likely be okay with changing Red to the Red Pirate, given that I presented facts about his reservations about the scene and given Marc Davis' unused sketches of female pirates. I mean, I could well be wrong, but I made a reasoned argument for my opinion.
      However, I DO absolutely agree with you that there are TONS of things Walt would not be happy about that the company has done over the decades. I agree with you about the alcohol in the parks. I can't say I have a problem with the content but the degree of talent, energy and money put into the features Disney has put out on and off over the decades is abysmal, literally and severely lowering the bar for the art of animation itself. Though, if you pay attention, in spite of Wish and several others, the bar of their animation does seem to be gradually increasing. So there's hope there.

    • @zeroconsequences
      @zeroconsequences 7 месяцев назад

      @@disfarers My comment was less about you as a content creator and more about the subject itself. I didn't expect you to read my comment so I was merely using the comments section as a sounding board. You seem reasonably thorough and based on the other comments nobody dislikes you beyond a few nitpicks. But you did choose to share your opinion on the matter of societal change which some might disagree with. Your segment on Walt having reservations was the first time I have heard it--you've read more books on the subject than I have I'm sure. Walt would have been fine with a female pirate but as with any modern change, it can't just create a new scene it has to supplant the old. This is the problem.
      It's the biggest complaint fans of older franchises have (ie. Star Wars), that the industry is marketing to a new generation using old IP and completely abandoning the old guard that made it so genuine and popular. Overall it makes the content weaker and ruffles feathers. Or to make a more relevant point, which movie based on the Pirates attraction itself was best? The first movie, or any of the others that had a more 'equitable' pirate casting ratio? I'd venture to say that any fan would agree the first movie was better because the story was better and that representation is less important.
      As for animated films, I think Disney is taking a backseat now whereas they used to be the industry standard in creating styles. They seem to just be falling in line with the popular exaggerative style seen more in cheap television cartoons. I'm sure it would sell a million tickets if only the story was worth watching.. leading me back to my original point. They desperately need to make a new quilt but they've essentially forgotten how to sew. The only thing they've been doing for the past two decades is haphazardly patching holes and forgetting the craft. This goes well beyond just animation which you mentioned with Disney lowering the bar in every aspect.

    If you are going to narrate videos, presenting facts as an expert, please do some research on how things are pronounced. Rolly Crump’s name looks like it would rhyme with Holly, but it is short for Roland, so, therefore, it is pronounced ROW - LEE. Also, MAPO is not pronounced map - oh.

    • @disfarers
      @disfarers  7 месяцев назад

      I'm not saying this to sound like a jerk, but your comment genuinely made me laugh this morning. I swear, I pour countless hours of research and writing into these scripts (not even mentioning the editing), but I keep getting hammered for mispronunciations in my recordings. I'm half laughing at myself, mind you.
      As for the Rolly Crump thing, I can only say that the problem stems from continually reading his name, rather than listening to it. However, near the very end of making this episode I listened to an interview with him where he said his name and I said, "OH NO"! ...to myself, alone in my car....But, like I said, the video was nearly done and it would have taken a lot of work to fix and re-edit everything. But you're absolutely correct. I said it wrong in this episode and previous ones. I can only claim ignorance in that I had only read the name, not heard it. But it won't happen again.
      As for MAPO, that's a totally new one to me. How is it supposed to be pronounced? Mae-po? Mah-po? It's another situation in that I've only read it on my own, but have never heard it spoken aloud.
      Thanks, by the way, for taking the time to comment on this. I don't want to pronounce things wrong in future episodes. I appreciate the help a lot.

    Auction scene is a disaster and adding wokeness is bad storytelling so don’t cave in to it. Don’t be a coward.

    • @disfarers
      @disfarers  20 дней назад

      I thought I made an understandable case for Red. I mean, if even Walt Disney thought the Auction scene was possibly a step too far and there were designs for a female Red pirate that was never used, then I don't think approving the change is cowardly. Also, Marc Davis' design for the portrait of Red at Disneyland's Pirates has never been removed and is still widely favored by fans. The character concept was interesting 60 years before wokeness became a thing. I think I even admitted in this episode that early on I didn't like the change, but after learning some neat facts, I changed my opinion.
      The rides are supposed to change.
      Not totally altering subjects here, but I was on Pirates at the Magic Kingdom last weekend and they added new smells during two scenes. I like those changes too.
