Sometimes I think that they go through ornitology and biology courses just to draw better. And even if not that, then they at least have to read some articles about it. Mad respect.
Not related to this video, but my art teacher showed the class your texture video, which is one of the few I’ve not watched. I can’t really spend the time to find it right now, but I just want to say that you did an amazing job explaining!
Hey, a good wing tutorial! They're so rare to find and it's even rarer to find one that only has minor mistakes. Just a few things: You kind of forgot about the propatagium, which is a bit of skin in front of the wing containing the patagial tendon. This helps smooth over the leading edge as well as keep the wing from folding too much, as completely stretching it would reduce the power it could generate, wind of how it's easier to lift stuff if you don't fully stretch out your arm. It's especially important to keep in mind with bat wings where everything is clearly on display. Generally all wing feathers and often to some extent the tail feathers are there to make a big surface area. The main bit of steering happens with the alula, tail and primaries as well as good old leaning to one side or the other. The secondaries are actually very firmly anchored and can't really be moved much so their involvement in steering is minimal to nonexistent. (The primaries do make up the majority of the wing in hovering birds, though). The alula is also more in-line with the primaries, not covering the wrist as you depicted. An easy trick is that the wrist is where the wing bends a little and the finders that the feathers attach to originate from there.
I love the way you explain how to draw things! It's always understandable, logical, and fun! I love drawing wings, so this was an extra fun one for me! Thanks!
Thank you so much for this video! I've been trying to draw wings and understand how they work (Since I work with my own fantasy characters) and your videos always come across at the perfect time. :)
it would be so cool to see you talk about the anatomy of dinosaurs, there are a lot of similarities between therpods and birds, and pterasaur wings are just so cool they work so weird
I had ( and still do ) fantasies with wings. They always always seem so fantastic and graceful and I always had trouble drawing them so, thank u for this information I longed to know.
5:08 Of course, it would be handy to be a partial (& limited) shapeshifter who can change the shape and size of their wings (& other flight-related aspects); and, maybe even do it mid-flight, like a race I've made up.
Tutorial on how to be a bird I liked it, I needed it because I also like to understand the structure and the basis to be able to draw and put it into practice too To be able to understand and put into practice to summarize
Thank u so much I'm currently trying to learn how to make a character of my own and I am going for one that missed going to have Williams I know for sure that one of my characters when I eventually make one is going to have wings and now I can pick from which ones based on his personality thank you
The bearded vultures are even more metal! They cover themselves in red dust as a sort of makeup, to seem like they're stained by blood and experienced fighters
Most of the video: These wings have a variety of different birds that use them! The very end of the video: Except owls who do not care for standards of nature.
Hey do any of you know any birds that have cool wings? I’ve been trying to find one to inspire my oc off of but I know nothing about birds and googling “pretty birds” isn’t really working. (I’m looking for something that has a bit of a black and blue/purple colour scheme if that helps)
Great i can now think of this: A. H.: goes into water A.H.: *drowns* A.H.: IM ALIVE A.H.: *tries to fly* AH.: *fails* (This is a crappy self insert as seen in the profile pic and she has owl-like wings and now thank you for listing a new flaw for this "OP on purpose" sus horse)
@@alonelytrex3700 Nevermind I fucked it up, when the wing is open the feathers closer to the body overlap over those closer to the tip and when the wing is closed the feathers on the half of the wing closer to the body overlap over those in the other half with only the longer primaries bring visible
We hope this helped you understanding of bird anatomy!🤩

The spine / claw on the top of the bat’s / dragon’s wings that the other fingers connect to IS THEIR THUMB so they do technically have 5 fingers
I thank you for not leaving this without mentioning owls and their variety. 😇 they are the bird wonders of the world

This is gonna be so awesome! I’ve waited so long! Hopefully this helps me draw wings on wolves.
& Why exactly do you want to draw wings on wolves?
@@gayratsinatrenchcoat because we all had that phase. Quite nostalgic to think about, really.
Just gotta say: never give up. In the future, you could even be the greatest artist of the century.
@@gayratsinatrenchcoat why would you not? It’s a wolf. With wings. Lol
