Tertials are the last 3 secondaries and not on the layer of sec covs and are connected to the ulna bone not the humerus ,the scalpulars are the ones connected to the humerus .
The way you simplefied median and lesser coverts is okay for normal illusrations but I would have prefered it if you mentioned them. Appart from that I like your watercolour videos a lot. ^^

I may have misspoke about the humerus bit, sometimes hard to catch myself doing voiceover! There are too many dang bones

Wing anatomy and face anatomy for birds is the most difficult afterall.

Even if the voice over was misplaced at least the drawing was anatomically correct

    • @ubin6155
      @ubin6155 Год назад

There are two different uses of the term "tertial", 1st is the 3 last secondaries closest to the body, and 2nd is the feathers that attached to upper-arm that also called humeral or true tertials
Edit: also the scapulars are the "coverts" of humeral!

This is the most comprehensive wing tutorial I have watched. I appreciate the adherence to reality and anatomy that is sadly lacking in many other wing tutorials on RUclips. Keep up the awesome work!

Very nice...visualizing the structures of animals when painting or sketching is such an important thing in realism or study. Also people get to see the animals in all their beauty through art sometimes as its often overlooked.

this is something that's endlessly vexed me -- just how HARD it is to find a reference image of a bird's wing from the bottom. I am so glad this tutorial exists; I'll probably end up coming back to it many times!

You can find some bird in flight pics on IG. Not ideal but if you happen to find a fresh dead bird yourself you can take a wing as study material.
It helps a lot to see how the wing reacts when moving and closing in your hand (but note, once a wing dries out you wont be able to move it any longer).

    Hi 👋
Thank you for generously sharing your knowledge and expertise in this area. I'm a silk artist and I paint wildlife, birds, ducks, as well as pet and people portraits. Your presentation was very well done.
Off the topic....waaaaayyy off the topic:
Watching this video I noticed your hands and fingers/fingernails. If I didn't know better I'd say that I recorded this video. Your hands, fingers, fingernails, knuckles, etc. look exactly like mine! EXACTLY! It's kind of spooky from my end, lol!
    Coincidences are the craziest! 😃

Nice video, but owls do not usually have shorter wings. They need larger, softer wings to be able to flap less. The majority of owls are ambush predators and do not need to be agile. A bird who is agile and has shorter wings would be a falcon. They are fast and agile with slender short wings for fast movement. Because they have shorter wings, they must flap more, but they do not need the cover of silence, as they chase down their prey.

@@PrinceTerrien I mean God made the 1st wing. She's an artist but she doesn't get that? I mean if she thinks angels are fake she must believe God is fake too. If there's no God then where the hell did the wing come from? I guess she can draw but she's not smart enough to put two and two together
