These two blokes living their best lives.
Can you imagine meeting this car on a dark country road with those maniacal headlights circling and changing colors on that burnt out car, passing cars and just ripping around, some people would think it is a car straight outta hell! The devil came down to Georgia! :)
It's straight out of a Mad Max movie. I love it.
I must remember to wear sandals next time I'm in a workshop handling gearboxes and stuff.
Such a good idea.
This is the best BUILD and RESTORATION on all of RUclips!!!
I’m so glad you’re enjoying!!! 😊😊
You don’t get out much do ya 😂
@@S2NAZ 🤣🤣🤣
@@S2NAZ Well, at least this is a project that ANYONE can afford and attempt to rebuild without going in debt.
Lol y’all never checked out pole barn garage? He created plenty of things like this, still awesome none the less
That is the perfect car for "SMOKED" headlights.
Put the bonnet on that beast dude. It looks amazing and the work you're doing is excellent. Thanks for the vlog.
That was a beautiful car when she was silver and black, absolutely beautiful!!
Fair play to you, that’s an achievement.
That mercury has a look of the ford mk1 capri and mk3 cortina from the UK in the 70s
👍🏼🇬🇧
Being a Ford/Mercury guy it’s a tribute to how tough that little car is. I think it looks great as well and the former owner, although distressed it isn’t it’s previous self should be proud to see that it lives on even after something that severe. Keep up the good work!
Love the fact your dad isn't afraid to work with his safety flops on 😅
Dad has the backs of his arms all smudged up with the undercoat but his khaki pants were spotless. Dude knows more than he lets on...
Haha down here in Australia we call them Japanese safety shoes.
Sleeperdude use safety flip-flops too! 😊
@@70chevs😂
I love the work you are doing on this car. Even though it was heartbreaking for the original owner I am sure that he will be happy to see it live again.
The ad that just played while watching cracked me up…”Polysporin for when you have a bad burn”. Couldn’t have timed it better.
I agree those led headlights don’t fit the car (read ugly as sin). I think some standard H4 replacements would look fine.
That melted spoiler isn’t doing the rear end any favors.
Words cannot express my hatred of those headlights
❤ new headlamps add character. Yellow looks better than the blue. Good call👍👍
Dude! This is almost as good as the Porsche. It’s going to be bad ass if you bring it back from dead except for the patina. Like a warrior wearing it’s scars for everyone to see but still very much the hot rod. The Rat Rod Zombie Comet!
I love the maverick!!! When you said you were going to put interior in it, I said YES!! Love what you do!!
Keep them coming Gentlemen!
No I'm totally with you on showing the rust outside - best part of the whole thing!
Best transformation of a car ever. Can’t wait to see it again
This is the kinda content that makes me love this channel.
That "crispy" Comit is a ROCKET! I love it. You guys put some serious elbow grease into this build and it shows in spades!! Thank you for what you are doing Sir's! ❤.
Crazy? No sir, I think the word for you two is "determined". And don't let anyone tell you different. And keep the headlights - I think they fit the narrative of what you're going for. The "Crispy Comet" is indeed 1 of a kind😁👍
Those headlights kinda make it almost look sinister, love the build. Car looks awesome.
I love it. I'd just leave the patina like you have it but it would be cool to fix up the rest. Get some trim, seals, grille, and interior to make it comfortable. I really like what you've done so far. Good job saving it from the crusher.
Love to see FRYBOY come to life.
You're one of the first car guys to ever create "The Char Rod"
You guys have the most honest shown to watch. Down to earth and refreshing thanks for it.
This car was defintely worth saving.
I love to see beautiful cars like this that everyone else gave up on brought back to life.
Good to see you've got your safety flip flops on😂
That Comet has an actual "flame job" paint scheme. Man, I'd just spray it with matte clear and drive it.
Wow those old cars were so much tougher than modern junk , i love your outside the box thinking on how to save and enjoy it on a budget , really creative and great fun .
Millions of nice Mavericks and Comets out there….that’s a stretch. The car is coming along nicely!
I LOVE this entire project EXCEPT not painting it. Flat black, flat grey or olive drab
Love to hear your dad laughing in the back ground !!!! great video.
I LOVE the look of this car!!! Headlights, not so much, but overall, she's SICK!!
From the first video with this car I could tell it was going to be something special for you.
The progress on this car is awesome! It is currently one of the coolest builds out there. This car deserves every chance to look as sinister as possible. Think "Christine" when she was on fire and after the fire in the movie. Blacked out headlights, taillights, and maybe even window tint. Limited slip rear end to top it off and this car is just absolutely awesome. Can't wait to see the next episode with it!! Thanks for bringing this car to us.
You must have your tongue in your cheek so far with this project it's coming out the other side! I can't think why anyone would put so much effort and money into rescuing this wreck except for making an entertaining RUclips video, which it is. Fair play to you all and best regards from Ireland.
This, and Dalton's 'Holey Goat' (Pole Barn Garage) are the coolest builds on RUclips
Kudos for saving this car, a lot of people would have just pulled the drivetrain and taken the shell to the metal recyclers.
Great to see you painting the surfaces that do not show. I am not a "patina" fan but the fire damaged exterior is part of this rig's story. A budget friendly paint job can come later. When that thing was new, NASCAR had a "Baby Grand" series for compact cars. People go crazy for "street legal" stock cars. Skip all the interior expense and embrace the "baby grand" tribute scene.
This and the camper are my favourite projects that you are doing at the moment.
watching these videos its easy to miss just how much work goes into it.
Turning out to be a awesome little hotrod! I'm not a big ford guy but who don't like old 60s and 70s cars! I'm really enjoying the content fellas!
I believe you have built the first zombie rod!
☠️🏎️💨
I’ve watched all your builds and this one is the best!
It's peerless and I absolutely love it just the way it is!
You just saved that car life. Now enjoy!
First thought when I saw this car and you guys getting it from the junk yard was that it has to be painted, like theres no way that thing will look unique and cool later on like that.
I was wrong, its looking so good when you applied surface treatment inside and in the engine bay, same as that clear coat or surface treatment outside the car really brought this car to the next level, absolutely love it!
I believe it deserves restoration everywhere else but the "paint" would need to stay as it is now. Looks so cool, cant wait to see interior, glasswork and lights restored on this ❤
I'm 55 but back in the 80's I built some nice comets and Mavericks among Camaros Chevelles novas and so on they just don't show comets on you tube great video my friend have a great day
I really enjoy whatching this build it deserves more plz give it some love
Truly an enjoyable car, fun is the key word for this Merc.
Great to see you guys saving this car.
Hard to believe that car was burned that bad and now it's back on the road. Cool video.
Thank you sooo much for working on this! Its what we all wanted (I'm not sure why, we just do). Really like the drive train.
This is the best restoration I've ever seen on RUclips can't wait to see it I say name it toasty😊
You make me laugh...again! Just woke up. Having breakfast and watching. Rob, Cairns, Australia
More vids on this please , glass , rear lights etc etc , love it
Fire Marshall Bill would be proud .🔥
Y'all can move pretty fast when you find a wasp nest! 😂Love the car
I love this proyect. The head light looks cool for the moment 😂
Looks like something out of mad max really cool car !!
That takes me back. I had a 76 Maverick with a 302 and it was a joy to drive everyday. I'm in my sixties now and I would drive your car no problem. Crome-mags and white raised letter tires is always the way to go.
Mr. B. Here ! Nice job guys, I would say still needs a little love ( LOL ) 👍👍😎😎🍺🍺
I’m so glad you are doing something with this car I m 67 years old y’all bring back memories that are precious to me. Thank you.
OH NO!! IT'S ONLY A ONE WHEEL PEELER!! AHHH!! LOL! I love the car so much! Yes must have headers and Posi Trac! Rock on!
I can’t wait to see this build when it’s done
There’s a burnt $300 1969 Firebird for sale, and I’m pretty sure it has a 350 or 396 in it, would be a cool project too
THIS CAR ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love it!!!
Love the Crispy Rust Rod!
Really enjoy your channel, you deserve to get to 1 million subscribers, welldone guys🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
You can appreciate the job Waylon Wire has in front of him after his rat rod caught on fire in his shop. Not quite as bad as this but still a huge undertaking. You’ve come a long ways from where you started. Good job.
Halfass Customs shop burnt down as well and his coupe got cooked along with a couple other rods.
After having a very rough day at work this video cheered me up. Thanks for the entertainment, you two. Nice job giving that Comet a second life.
Great burnout!! This little Comet is a RIPPER!!
More videos on the mercury (CRISPY)...love it....😅
Best restore ever, love that car.
Looks good all crispy. I think a nice white stripe kit would make that burnt orange pop!
Takk!
Thank you!! We really appreciate the support 😊
Burnt burnout rig. Wonderful!
That car rips! Great build man. Bringing it from the ashes is really unique and special. You even got that one wheel peel! Hell yeah! 😎🤙🏻
That car was a steal with the engine and transmission that you got with it.
Glad she is getting a second chance
That is a crazy looking car , and it is awesome looking…
That burnout was awesome!
Man the car is begging to be brought back to it's former glory
That car should be called The Phoenix ..... Out of the ashes to run again.😊
Good job, and good old dad
I like the crazy headlights for the car. Should have painted the shocks to match the yellow plug wires. The rear tail light do no look good. Also what’s left of the wing you should replace. A nice mix of the new parts add to burnt car body. Keep up content very much enjoy.
I passed you on my way to work Monday evening. What a site to see !
I love the headlights on this. You have to keep the headlights. They are weirdly perfect. I bet the wires would like great dirtied up. Next time your hands are really dirt wipe 'em off on those yellow wires. Lovin' this build!
Great work and a really good video.
The Freddie Cougar!
I don’t know how someone ever learns this much about cars, yeah I’m jealous. Great job guys.
Lovin the Crispy Comet!
Awesome. Crazy? Maybe. A unique look for sure and no one is going to park next to you at a car show with a dopplegaanger! LMAO! You guys also brought back some memories from the 70s, when my friends and I were all about cars.
So unique
definitely one of my favorite builds
I owned a 72 Maverick GT that came with a 302, 3speed otf, 2bbl carb. I put a toploader 4sp in it without changing the rear gears. Thing wasn't particularly fast in a straight line but it would go much faster (top speed) than it should have gone. I paid all of 1000 for it in 75.
One word of wisdom - the chassis is not designed for any high power or successive clutch dumps. My gf at the time put a rear shock mount right through the subfloor into the trunk. There's literally no serious metal in them. People who build them generally tend to put an entire frame in them.
TL;DR - Take it easy, it's in no way or shape a racer, not even a wannabe.
Candi apple red nice
