I just received my new mic today.... Very nice. Big display. Easier menu. On/Off/Volume ontop knob. Fits my hand better... Absolutely worth the money in my opinion.😊
Didn't know about this. Think it'll run a cable to the rear of my sequoia and plug the old one back there by my camp kitchen and place the new one in its stead. Thank you keep doing your awesome reviews
Stock mic definitly has a smaller speaker in it. You can tell its being overdriven. The volumes seem about the same but the newer mic with the bigger speaker sounds much more level, natural, and clearer.
Nice video! I didn’t even know about this upgrade. A question about the noise cancelling, does it also improve the reception sound quality when others are transmitting to you?
Omg yes! Everyone in my crew who got this upgrade noticed the difference immediately. We are so much more clearer. It's almost like a phone vs that "radio" noise
Looks like my 275 (USB-A) can’t use the new mic. 😢 Also, looking at the Midland website it looks the new mic doesn’t come with the radio themselves (it’s not reflected in the product images), but you have buy it separately. Is this right?
I just got the MXT575 installed with the MXMC01 mic and Midland extension Cat 5, unfortunately the speaker on the mic isn’t working. The manual isn’t explaining how to enable the mic speaker over the unit speaker
It's in the mic menu somewhere. I can't remember off the top of my head right now but it's def there because I enable the mic speaker over the unit speaker in one of our vehicles since the unit is hidden in the middle console.
@@BaptismOverland I tried all the options in the menu, no joy. Also tried with original microphone, still no joy. I emailed support, maybe it’s the extension Cat 5 they sell. Thanks again
@@jhawkins9971 once this storm passes and we are in the clear I'll check on my menu. It's not the cat 5 extension. Trust me. Cuz I don't have that on the Jeep and I'm able to change it. I'll check on Friday. Hopefully we don't get hit with this hurricane here
@@BaptismOverland I hope you and the family are safe. It is the “Lock” button that is used for toggling between the base or microphone speakers. Unfortunately, there is nothing in either manual that mentions that, Midland should add that paragraph. Take care and look forward to other reviews.
Of course. There is an option for you to choose where you want the sound to come out of...the radio unit or the handheld or both. I tend to have it coming from the radio in the Jeep but in our 4Runner it comes out of the handheld since the unit is hidden
Online it shows that this is a USB-C only connection, is that true? If so, do they have a model that would connect to their extension for routing to the radio which would be under the driver seat?
@@BaptismOverland on their website it shows the regular microphone connection but in the description says USB-C only for the microphone. I have also emailed them for clarity.
I have Revel Sprinter van and I was going to mount the ghost antenna to one of my ditch light mounts. I'm concerned that the van will block the reception from the rear. Do you find this to be a problem on your rig? Great video!
Don't you have both of the Midland radios? If so, I wonder if the MXMC01 has the same performance results on both? Nonetheless, this is an awesome breakdown! Thank you. God bless!
I do. Clarity wise the new one is leagues better. Not louder. Interface is def improved. And the biggest thing is ease is use. Performance is gonna come from your antenna tbh. I tested stock, whip and ghost...the whip gives the best reception
The viewing angles suck if you like using the red screen color. And removing the mic jack was the wrong move. Doesn't hurt to have. And for $90 for this trust me they weren't trying to save money.
Yes. I had mentioned it's for MXT275 and MXT575 which has the USB ports although this has nothing to do with the usb ports. That's just for external charging of devices
@@BaptismOverland Yes, but some models have the regular USB ports, and some have USB-c ports. The Midland website specifies that the new mic only works with the models that have USB-c ports. Owners of the older models with regular USB ports would not be able to upgrade to this mic. I’m assuming this has something to do with the higher amperage required to run a USB-c port (and maybe also the new mic), but that’s just a guess.
@@kellydiver oh wow that's good to know. I figured that they always had USB C ports on them. I'll get clarification and will update the description of this video soon as I find out. Thanks!!
Yes. That's pretty much the selling point with the MXT575 and 275 is that you can hide the unit and just have the mic be what's visible in your vehicle
Thanks for the comparison. Real world testing is better than science. Keep it up. And as a pastor, i wish i had thought of the name Baptism Overload. Take care. Isaiah 6:8
There are a ton of things made in China. It doesn't necessarily mean it's cheap or bad. Hell, there's a radio out now that a LOT of people use that's a Chinese company (Waoxun) and we also know how many people own Baofengs (also Chinese). The real question is if the company is reputable and not just some foreign company putting out knockoffs. Midland has a great reputation with great quality control. Manufacturing might be in China but it's been tested and made reliable. I would look out for brands no one has ever heard of before that are priced super cheap.
Actually it's been way better! My issue before was every time I picked up the mic the front buttons kept getting pressed. Also the menu was so hard to navigate. IMO I would rather have this mic that mimics how handheld volume knob is and then all the menu items easy to read. It's a very different feeling than the original

I love it a ton. I think you will too!
I like this new mic! I will definitely be picking one up soon! Great review!
I won't go back to the stock. It's worth it in my opinion
I've watched a few of your videos and I really enjoy what your doing

Thanks for your review you convinced me to get 2 of them. It was a no brainer since i already have the 575 in both of my vehicles. 😁
Oh man you're going to LOVE them.
Made of money.

Def! You can tell right fr the jump
Midland, please get replacement parts for these radios. I would love to buy a replacement lost volume knob.
Love how you break this all down!!
Great video.
Just picked up the new mic for 72.00, well worth it.
It really is!
There’s no speaker in the mic on the old one I thought? Speakers on the base only
No there's def a speaker on the old one because it's the one I use always. My unit is hidden
Awesome review

Omg yes! Everyone in my crew who got this upgrade noticed the difference immediately. We are so much more clearer. It's almost like a phone vs that "radio" noise
But also even those who don't have the upgrade, it still comes out clearer on MY end
I like the idea of a bigger screen and a more user friendly menu. I also constantly press the TX button on accident. $90 is a little steep.
Agreed on all fronts. Personally I think the mic is worth it once you have it in your hands. Makes things easy.
It's steep. Really it's not that big of an upgrade that these influencers are making it out to be. Remember, they are sponsored.

Correct. It's an upgrade. Maybe one day it'll be the standard mic. Hopefully. And yeah it only works on newer model 275s

The one I have has a USB-C port for charging devices and a regular port for the mic. Not sure if there's an even newer one that's straight USB-C.

Haven't had any issues. The van isn't what blocks it. I think it'll be fine there! I know a ton of people who put it around that area
Great review :)
did I miss it or did this review not test the ANC mic?
I tested the mic around 9:15 mark
Do I have to re program my repeaters if I upgrade?

Good luck finding GMRS radios not made in china/japan.
The only GMRS radio made is the USA is the BTECH GMRS PRO that I know of.

No lies told. And they got even more stuff coming this year too....
Now the volume knob will accidentally be adjusted up/dn. Not a good idea IMO
