Vietnam has fought and defeated countless Goliaths to achieve its liberation.
While our people in Palestine are still fighting their own Goliath, we wanted to learn, how did the Vietnamese do it? And what happens once this Goliath is taken down? What does a national identity built on liberation and resistance look like when the country’s at peace? And is Vietnam really at peace?
We traveled to Hanoi in the north and Ho Chi Minh City Saigon in the South to explore Vietnam’s story of liberation, and the story it's writing now.

They did. The NYT used the same language describing Viet Cong and Hamas. Same plot

@@phlilipsdo9771 Suppose Communism is so often equated with poverty. How then can the capitalist system in the United States be seen as a beacon of wealth when its citizens are burdened by countless forms of debt-personal loans, mortgages, student loans, credit card debt, auto loans, and more? Is this what prosperity looks like? In contrast, in a communist country like Vietnam, many people are financially capable of purchasing everything outright, without being weighed down by such debts.
Moreover, consider the disparity in homelessness rates between the U.S. and a communist country like Vietnam. The rate of homelessness in the U.S. is approximately 1,600% higher than in Vietnam (0.17% of the population versus 0.01%). Is this the affluence of capitalism that you speak of?
And surely, you must be familiar with the state of healthcare in the U.S. If Americans are so wealthy, why do so many avoid going to hospitals when they fall ill? Meanwhile, in a communist country like Vietnam, citizens can access modern healthcare at a fraction of the cost, and with far less financial strain:
- The average healthcare expenditure per capita in the U.S. is a staggering 7,000% higher than in Vietnam (12,000 USD in the U.S. versus 170 USD in Vietnam).
- The cost of a doctor's visit in the U.S. can be 1,000% to 4,000% higher than in Vietnam (100-200 USD in the U.S. versus 4-20 USD in Vietnam).
- Medication prices in the U.S. are typically 500% to 1,000% higher, depending on the type.
And this doesn't even begin to touch on the various taxes Americans must contribute to sustain their system.
So, a word of advice to those in exile who remain dissatisfied with their homeland: don’t be too quick to judge. Returning to Vietnam might reveal that you’re not quite as well-off as the people you criticize.
@@phlilipsdo9771communism doesn't equalize poverty, look how much china and Vietnam developed in a few decades. And if your argument holds then why aren't all capitalist countries rich?
@@phlilipsdo9771 Meanwhile, capitalism *thrives* on inequality of all kinds. *Especially* economic inequality.
Allow me to explain why his eyes sometimes filled with tears. As Vietnamese, we deeply understand the immense sacrifices our ancestors made for the independence we enjoy today. When the conversation reminded him of how much we lost in the past, and he realized that the peace we have is not eternal, the possibility of future invasions weighed on him. He choked up, not because he is weak or overly emotional, but because he understands that the determination for independence and freedom runs in our veins, passed down from generation to generation. He knows that, if necessary, we or our descendants will fight again, no matter the cost.
very well explained bro

"freedom isn't free" is something that gets said a lot here in the US by conservative nationalists and the population at large. Except they're using it to support bombing, invading and occupying foreign nations instead of fighting for freedom FROM an empire. I feel like I live in bizarro world.
The same America built off of one of the largest genocides in world history, and also built off of one of the largest slave trades in history. the same country that removed numerous democratically elected leaders in other countries, replacing them with brutal dictators (see numerous south american countries). and dont forget vietnam, or iraq which was invaded over a blatant lie, causing millions of civilian deaths. and usa is the biggest supporter of the coloniser apartheid state of israel.

There are millions of them and the most famous one is a mother, lost her husband to the french, then her sons, all 9 of them, died fighting the american. someone said in an interview, that "there is no mother on earth doesn't love her children, but if we keep them away from the battlefield for their future, then there is no future for our nation".
our leader Ho Chi Minh once said "a people who not dares to stand up and fight for their own liberty, doesnt deserve to live in freedom".

My favorite quote from Ho Chi Minh is: "It was patriotism, not Communism, that inspired me"
Communism was just the political vehicle that he aligned with most. And in the early stages of the resistance and of HCM's political career--he was heavily influenced by the U.S. Declaration of Independence--modeling the one he wrote after it. Go check it out.
This was someone who held the U.S. in high regards, and reached out to Washington to try to establish friendly relationships and to request recognition of the newly declared independence and state, but was snubbed. He believed in elections (which ironically, the U.S. interfered with the one that was held in VN that was suppose to unite the country under a single leader)
My guess is.. HCM eventually became disillusioned by what the U.S. presents to the world as its values and how it contradicted their actual behaviors..
Rất tiếc mỹ đã giải phóng pháp khỏi đức nếu ko việt nam bây giở sẽ thay thế hàn quốc
Funny enough, communism as well capitalism and socialism, are economics model.😅
Ho Chi Minh mission in life is the independent. All those america, socialist, communism, 3rd international or any of all the politic party he ever take part of while in Paris is just a tool for him in that quest.
One of the founding father of FCP. But Ho Chi Minh put more concern about decolonize than class conflict, he bring up the colony problem at all the meeting of FCP, to the point other communist hate him and 3rd international well aware of his pseudo communism. As he always try to convince other that colony problem should be solve first. But 3rd international believe that free the worker class from capitalism is need to be done before anything else.
After getting rejected inside communism. He go to america to find another option. He send a letter to Frank D Roosevelt but get ignored. Then return to USSR, go through china to vietnam. Doing his own revolution. At sometime, communist send him to merge 3 different communist party in indochina then immediately get kicked out from the chair. Because they known Ho Chi Minh is not a true communist.
Some of true vietnamese communist sit in that throne, Tran Phu, Ha Huy Tap always criticize Ho Chi Minh for being too soft with landlord and capitalist. Pracmatic and betray his class.
Viet Minh, even tho later merge as one with VCP. initiation is not a communist party or any politic party. Some of them is communist. most of them dont. There are people of all the class and kind that join together to fight against Japanese and later France. Those communist inside the revolution doesnt happy with Ho for using force of capitalist and be cool with them, but they believe in Ho and still keep on fighting the war.
In the midst of ww2. Ho rescue an US pilot and escort him to china. From now on USA recognise a figure as Ho Chi Minh and decide to have him as a field agent for OSS ( later become CIA) code name Lucius.
After the ww2. Ho Chi Minh ask USA to recognise vietnam as an independent state. But Pentagon refuse. Say, small country should be under the arrangement of big country in the new world order. Vietnam need to be govern by the combination of China republic, British and France. Like how the korea have to be govern by USSR in the north and USA in the south. Which we already know how it turn out to be.
Then because of USA reject. after 5 years. Ho Chi Minh have to seek help from another Permanent Five in UN. The USSR. And then after France fall in Dien Bien Phu. Eisenhower scare of Vietnam will be the spark to spread communism to all asia. Then they going in for their political purpose. The rest is history.
Ho Chi Minh is really hurt by this action from USA. He never expect USA, to protect their power in new world order. ready to sacrifie its young man and shoot at vietnamese people. USA is no longer the hero who fight against Nazi, or the people who liberate themself from British a long time ago.

Protect your country my brother, don't let another C14 puppet like Jair Messias Bolsonaro back in power. Just look at Argentina and Javier Milei.
Vietnam was able to achieve independence & so will Palestine 🇵🇸✌🏽🕊️
"Now I will pass on, what I've done, the work I've done, the liberation that we've done, to my brother from another mother. This is how liberation will be achieved."
The best quote of a liberated person to another person struggling for independence. 😢
This was an amazing piece of work , I actually read the book “kill anything that moves” recently , it’s a book about the Vietnam war. The things I learned were terrible , Americans are taught a very “heroic” perspective about their wars, but it’s anything but that .
Now you can find some Vietnamese' book about Independent war or some book about Hochiminh. It's good to have both side views.
Americans only teach their people the good points of their country and avoid positive points from their enemies. So their people lack of true historical views.
America has done shit that they should't have done but that does not mean Vietnam is in the right. Vietnam is a communist country with one party, critizising the goverment could lead to harassment, arrest, or imprisonment. Vietnam does not allow freedom of speech somthing south vietnam (US supported) did better *IT STILL DID CENSOR MEDIA* but it was atleast better and _probably_ would've been a lot more free than modern day vietnam
I am a Filipino with an american fiance, we had our pre nuptial photoshoot in Vietnam...we love Vietnam her people... i told him about how the Vietnamese won over its colonizers, and how the Philippines is not Different from Vietnam and how we were both colonized by western nations . More power to vietnam!🇻🇳 and Free Palestine 🇵🇸 🇵🇭🇻🇳
Yea yea stop showing off your trophy white husband lmfao
Marcos aided the Republic of South Vietnam who were invaded upon by Communist North Vietnam (that was backed by China and USSR) which annexed the South and is the Communist Vietnam we know today... and had resulted in millions in that region fleeing from communism. During the war Vietnam invaded Laos and Cambodia, installing Communist regimes that removed people's privacy and private land (I know as I watched interviews of people who fled those countries). Unless you are referring to Japanese/Spanish colonization, we Filipinos do not have much in common. The Philippines is a very anti-communist country. We are still at war with CPP-NPA-NDF that are backed by Communist China to this day.

Yes there's Yemen willing to become N Vietnam.
The vietcong were communists. Marxism despises religion, which was one of the reasons why the Afghan mujahadeen fought the Soviets in the 1980s. Therefore, Palestinians having a vietcong sense of purpose is a ludicrous statement in every sense. Islam and communism are absolutely incompatible!
VietCong are alot more resilient than the Cowards of Humus.
Israel supported Communist North Vietnam during Vietnam War, supplying weapons and now security cameras to spy on Vietnamese citizens. It's a twisted world if Palestinian resistance supports Communist Vietnam while fighting Israel.

I am now here in Da Nang Vietnam. This is a country that amazes me that they had fought so hard for their independence and rebuild their war-torn country!

Oh, it has been before internet existed. Whole asia knows it😢 well, the ones who suffers from colonizations did. 😢
You are doing incredible work Salem. Getting the Palestinian message across the globe.
No matter people like Ho Chi Minh or not, we have to admit that he's an extraordinary leader. Ho Chi Minh once said, "It is patriotism, not communism, that motivates me to give up everything for the independence and freedom of my country." This thought-provoking quote summarizes the essence of his motivations and challenges the commonly held misconception that his actions were solely driven by communist ideals. It's true that there's something fascinating about Vietnam. It's a poor and small country fearlessly going up against countless Goliaths and successfully defending its independence and freedom. In his book Ending the Vietnam War in Vietnam, Henry Kissinger (RIP) - former US secretary of state and national security adviser wrote: "Since Vietnam, the concept of power has radically changed." Personally, I think Vietnam's history is probably the most intriguing in the world.
Ho is simply cruel, having pushed millions of people to death under the order of Russia and China.
Yeah, Ho Chi Minh wasn't a Communist, he was forced into it when the US refused to support his independence movement in 1945, giving it back to the Colonizers. Vietnam is only an ally with the US out of convenience, because China and Vietnam have a lot of bad blood, and still do, unfortunately.
We, Vietnamese have a history that is thousands of years long and extremely heroic. We have outstanding heroes ranked in the 10 greatest generals in human history such as Tran Quoc Tuan and Vo Nguyen Giap. I am extremely proud of our history.
He then fully followed the way of communism, and abort the idea of patriotism, and he supported freedom, to everyone suffered under colonialism and racism, including the Palestinians.
The Vietnamese were here, and they prevailed.
They did, but they also had Ho Chi Mihn, one of the smartest and most resilient communist revolutionaries in history. Almost none can compare
The Vietnamese inspired and guided us out of the dark and misty fog of Zionism.
May god bless them for being loyal to my land 🙏📿🩷
The French had no good reason to be in Vietnam. Jewish people have a right to live in the Levant. They are not the same. The French are not victims of genocide, while Israel was founded due to genocide. Peace cannot exist so long as you hold hatred in your heart for the enemy.
@@Relatablename
Using your broken logic, I can say:
The Europeans have no good reasons to be in America. The native people (redskin) have a right to live in North America. They are not the same. Neither the Europeans are victims of genocide, nor the US was founded because of the genocide.
By the way, the reason why Vietnam still exists and is in peace now is because they hold hatred in their heart for the Chinese in 1000 years until they gain independance in 938.
What kind of jewish you are talking about?? European and american jews converts that claim someones land in the name of their bibles?? 😂😂, dont forget that many muslim and christian palestinian is the true descendant of old jewish, dont forget that those land was canaanites land before jews invade them thousand years ago 😂😂, and last one if you use that logic then american is not for white peoples 😂😂, south african is not for white too 😂😂 @@Relatablename
