do you just put your plants in the soil or do u have to poke holes through the cardboard?

Small plants that come in the 4 inch containers can be planting directly into the compost. Their roots will be able to break through the cardboard on their own. Plants in 1 gallon containers can be planting after sheet mulching by moving mulch, cutting through the cardboard, and digging a shallow hole for the plant. plants in 5 to 15 gallon containers should be pre-planted before sheet mulching - pre-planting should be shallower than your normally would, to allow the few inches of materials from sheet mulching to come up to the root ball.
