The Karma Chameleon in this song is Jon Moss (the drummer of the band) with whom Boy George was having an affair with. But Jon Moss was not fully committed to the relationship and would often "come and go" with the ladies. Great song and amazing hook!

Red, Gold and Green are the colors of the Rastafari flag. Boy George and the band were very inspired by Jamaican culture!

Boy George's vocals + the lyrics= Culture Club Classic ‼️ This is pure 80s magic ✨. Fun song even though it's about someone that can't be true to you or themselves.

Idk about Mississippi in 1870, but in middle-of-nowhere Iowa where I was growing up in 1983, they used to play this song on the local (mostly farm report) radio station every morning about the time I was having my breakfast.
That says something about how big this song was!
My dad hated it! Meanwhile, i was quietly glad that he had no idea what Boy George looked like 😂

I saw them in Australia a few weeks ago with Berlin. Boy George can’t really hit the notes he used to but it was still great. Terri Nunn on the other hand wow, she’s still got it!

My love of Culture Club preceded even my love of Madonna, who made it big about a year or so later. This song is a certified fiyah bop. Always will be. One of the biggest songs from the 80s. Bring on the cheese

This was one of the hottest songs and definitely one if the hottest music videos on 80’s MTV! I think all of pop culture in the 80’s was changed and influenced by what was hot on MTV back then, and MTV gave exposure to bands like Culture Club that probably would not ordinarily be seen or heard in North America .

This song was labeled to be thier signature song and was the second single of thier second album ''Colours by Numbers''. This was thier fifth single to reaching the top 10 and was thier only n.1 single in US, spent 3 weeks at n.1 in US and also reaching n.1 in a lot of countrys. A huge pop/reggae and country song who reunited all the publics in 1984. This made this album thier best selling album to date and was a sold out at thier concerts during this period who the album came out during this era.

It blows my mind how huge this song was and how it’s known around the world and yet you’re hearing it for the first time. That in a way, as much as I’ve heard this song in the last 40 years, it was great to hear it this morning, to see your take on it. We should get someone to do a mix of the “Survival” vocal in with Madonna’s Survival. Niki and George remix. 😂

"Karma Chameleon" was a bigger hit for them than "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me". Definitely eighties cheese. The song reminds me of high school. Boy George probably would have passed as a "European Dandy" in Mississippi 1870.

This is your 6th reaction to Culture Club and I’m not mad. Keep ‘em coming, Patreons! If you need suggestions, here’s my two cents:
“That’s The Way (I’m Only Trying To Help You)” (feat Helen Terry)
    “Mistake Number 3”
    “It’s A Miracle”
“Colour By Numbers” (an actual song, not just the album title)
    “I’ll Tumble 4 Ya”
    “Move Away”
“Church of the Poison Mind” (feat Helen Terry)

Saw Culture Club when they first reunited back in 1998 with Howard Jones and the Human League as their opening acts and they were ALL amazing. Unfortunately my abusive boyfriend at the time was trying to ruin it for me til my boss at the time threatened to lay him out, and trust me she would have. One of my fave 80s songs and LIVING for ur reaction ❤

"Every day is like survival, you're my lover, not my rival" is one of the great lyrics. Tremendous song and video. Next Culture Club song you do should be Time (Clock of the Heart)

Little known fact. Culture Club was sued by a singer-songwriter named Jimmy Jones and his co-writer Otis Blackwell because of this song. Jones song was 60's R&B song named "Handy Man". They claimed Boy George’s “karma-karma-karma” bit sounded a whole lot like Jones’s “come-ah, come-ah, come-ah,” and the song swings along at a similar tempo. Jones and “Handy Man” co-writer Otis Blackwell sued Culture Club, and the group settled.

Listen, it's not my kinda stuff. But I'll tell you a funny story. When Culture Club made their UK television debut we was like 13. And in the classroom at school this kid called Nicholas was late next day and we was all sitting there and the door swung open and he walked in and the first words out his mouth was "DID YOU SEE THAT CHICK ON TOP OF THE POPS LAST NIGHT? SHE WAS F----ING gorgeous!"
We all knew who he meant and the whole class almost in unison went: "IT'S A MAN!!!"
But yeah. Boy George really has a great voice.

***SHOULD RBS EVEN BOTHER WITH CULTURE CLUB TRIVIA TIME!??*** ...'eh, why not, I don't want KARMA....(0:57).... ; )
    - ...to ALL the Kids who were there during Culture Club's mania, please leave.....NOW, this tune was the 2nd single from their 1983 / 1984 Album, "Colour By Numbers"....this tune is about Boy's LONGTIME fiery romantic relationship with the SMOKIN' HOT Drummer in the band, Jon Moss....
    - ...back then, Jon was wanted by EVERYONE, Men, Women, and he 'dabbled' ...a LOT.... this tune was Massiv-.... NO.... *TREMENDOUSLY MASSIVE!* ....#1, across the WORLD! ...Culture Club hit #1 Pop, Feb. 1984 (for 3 weeks) , and the Album sold BOATLOADS!
    - ...Boy George became a cultural ICON for those Alternate, 'fluid' Youngsters who wanted to experiment with makeup, clothes....SE-XUALITY....he truly was a game-changer, who opened Doors for Sam Smith, Lady Gaga, Troye Sylvian, Adam Lambert, and MANY other who were aware of WHO 'they' are, and who they wanted to LOVE.....It's a VERY Important Song....and, BAND....
