His natural voice sounds mostly like fry
He said in an interview he did Fry's voice on purpose like his own. Because that's harder to imitate so it would be harder to swap him out for another voice actor :-)
Rumblefin yup. I think they did switch him out, when Doug moved to Disney. So I don’t blame him. I think he said Fry is basically his voice at 20 years old.
And Billy’s laugh is also like Phillip J Fry’s!

I love how Billy gives all of them great advice, he's not just critizicing them, he's helping them become better at doing voices.
Great advice on being fearless, you have to push a lot harder because you'll always sound much 'bigger' in your head. Also, not pausing enough, a lot of us feel like we're moving way slower in our heads than we really are..
Also as every good voice actor knows, a flawed impression is now your own brand new character voice you can use.
@@KairuHakubi i know, right! voice acting is stll acting, so first thing first you have to relax, you can't act if you're thinking about your neighbour hearing you scream like a madman or doing a silly voice, just go all out!.
Also i agree with your point, flawed impressions can help you find your own tone, finding new voices is part of the fun, you will be surprised of how many voices can come out of you if you just let yourself be silly for a while.
@@meyelejuega3602 That's my biggest issue for sure, that and the accidental rapidfire. And the older I get, and the more abuse is heaped on me just for existing, the more inhibited I am..

It's hilarious that out of the hundreds of famous characters West voices, Doug is the one they decided to credit him for in the title.

His Zoidberg is such a transformation. All of his talent really shines through that voice.

Yes! That’s bothered me so much in the other videos. And they just have to be nice and say “yeah that was good” when some of them were just awful.
Well one was an actual voice impressionist “Brock” on RUclips so can’t really compare to the other videos when it’s people who don’t do that usually.
I like how West broke everything down where as most just go "Heh that's a pretty good impression"

@@asuraXTC I mean, Lamar is definately one of the best and definately in the same league as west and blanc but the only reason I say west is the modern blanc is he's literally done half of mel blanc's voices in loonytoons since the 90's and was discovered by calling into radio shows doing blanc impressions. On top of that he did 4 major and very different voices in Futurama though both he and Lamar have done a lot of characters in futurama over the years. But yeah, lamar is an absolute legend as well. Him, west, and Tara Reid are some of my favorite all time voice actors.
Nobody is Mel. He’s done hundreds of different voices, that most people to this day can’t properly emulate
@@frankiehands he definitely defined the art and created many techniques modern artists use. He is and always will be the GOAT. but he did use physical tricks and even used messing with slowing down and speeding up tape to produce some of his voices which we do digitally these days. The best voice actors these days have hundreds of voice credits because they follow Mel's footsteps.

Hearing him speak, I remember Tom Kenny saying people said they sound alike. I would LOVE to see Tom try Billy's characters and vice versa :P Theyre both great people and super talented.. it would be a great show to watch!
Doug for me is one of the greatest cartoons in my lifetime. Thank you Mr. West. The show died when it went to Disney and Doug's voice changed

Ok, so Mel Blanc wasn't actually allergic to carrots, that's a myth. He used celery when voicing Bugs Bunny bc it gave a bigger crunch. 🥕
You gotta admit tho, the carrot story does sound alot better.
He may not have been allergic, but Blanc still hated the taste of carrots. He tried using celery, and it didn’t sound right, so eventually he resigned himself to using carrots but keeping a spittoon nearby to get the orange stuff out of his mouth the moment the take was finished.

but stories like this, you never know. it's so easy for a lie to get entrenched, and nobody alive today can say they recorded in the studio with mel doing bugs.

I met Billy at a convention earlier this year. He did the Futurama voices and the Red M&M! Super nice guy!
Farnsworth was so good. But at the same time, Billy’s assessment and constructive criticism was so accurate
Tonight, I just learned that Mel Blanc - the original voice of Bugs Bunny - was allergic to carrots! WOW!

This was so wholesome! Billy West is one of my all-time faves, he's done every important American cartoon voice in my adult life, starting with Ren & Stimpy!

I remember being a kid and finding out this guy voiced so many of my favorite characters...Doug, Fry, the Cheerios Bee. It blew my mind lol. Can't believe he's 70.

The guy who did Zoidberg was really impressive! I wish I would hear about these videos. I would love to do my impressions. Billy West is my main inspiration on my impressions. I have many characters that I have created. I worked at a Guitar Center for a few years and a co-worker and I were going to create a cartoon about our experiences with the many regulars that came in our store. We went as far as having my wife draw out characters and we had the voices. We just couldn't find someone to create the cartoon. I really wish we made it though. We had some crazy people come into the store that we embraced and spent a lot of time creating.
Wow! I'm an artist myself, but I can't animate. Nor do I have the money or technology to do so. Otherwise, I would have loved to help you! Your idea sounds really fun for a cartoon :)
The voices Billy did on the Stern show were gold! His Larry Fine was spot on.

The great thing about him on Stern is you got to see him performing a lot of his own material. He’s incredibly funny.

He kind of threw some lowkey shade at that first guy, complimenting his Doug impression and then telling him it would be better for a different character who's not Doug.
It's called constructive criticism and most voice actors appreciate it.

i had no idea this legendary VA did doug!!! doug was my all time favorite nick tooon growing up. NOT the disney version
I needed this. It was nice to just sit back and relax and listen. Billy speaks so well and with such confidence.
Mel Blanc was so good at doing these voice impressions he could if he wanted to do every single voice that Billy could

Billy West reminds me so much of my uncle (tone, mannerisms, accent, etc). The only difference is my uncle can't do vocal impressions, LOL.
Why doesn’t this have more views? Maybe putting one of his more recognizable characters in the thumbnail like Phillip J, Fry or Stimpy it would have attracted more people. Doug just isn’t popular.
I clicked on it because of Doug haha. I know Futurama was more popular though, probably would've been a better idea.

i liove hearing fry explain how good or bad they are at his other voices.
He said in an interview that for Fry his inspiration was his own voice when he was in his 20’s 👍🏻

The Elmer Fudd "bowling" line in Space Jam used to make me laugh so hard as a kid. I met Billy when I was in my late 20s and he is such a great guy
I can hear hints of all his characters in his natural voice the more I listen to him.
Billy is so awesome! I was first aware of his voices on The Rock of Boston WBCN’s The Big Mattress with Charles Laquidara in the 80s& 90s! Then of course Ren & Stimpy, but did you know Billy’s Popeye the Sailor in The Quest for Pappy, a computer animated video first broadcast on Fox then went to DVD in 2004? Great example of Billy’s vocal control.
Billy was hilarious on WBCN. He's the only guy who could make Charles Laquidara and Mark Parenteau speechless with laughter.

I can see him trying not to move his lips along with the line when he is listening. 🙂 I do that when I hear something I recorded too lol. It's like a subconscious reflex.
doug is still one of my fave cartoons ever loved it so much.
