  • I found the coolant leak at the rear of the engine and above the starter in my 1994 Chevy C1500 with the 4.3L V6 engine. Turns out it's a freeze plug that's leaking and not the intake manifold gaskets.

    So happy I found the source of the coolant leak! As far as freeze plugs go, maybe it might not be so hard to replace? I do have good access to it. Here's the video of me doing the repair ruclips.net/video/1iU81xNkCFM/видео.html

    I have the same problem all my buddy’s kept telling me it was the gaskets but I never saw a leak and I replaced them not but 3 months before I found out I had a leak, but now you’ve helped me find the real problem! Thanks!

    Good video. I was checking for a leak for about two weeks. I check that plug hopefully it's that and not the water pump

      Thank you. If you need to replace the water pump I have that video too. I ended up going through much of the cooling system. Here's that video ruclips.net/video/xMuYrk-yUxE/видео.html

    Sold a 97 c1500 4.3 to my younger cousin then he said he had a leak shortly after. Ended up being the freeze plug behind motor mount. I was able to replace it for him. A lot of work for a $2 part. posted a short video about it with a few tips on my channel

      @BuildYourOwn  10 месяцев назад

      Wow, that's quite the task to tackle for such a small part, but it's great that you were able to fix it for your cousin. It's often surprising how much effort goes into addressing what seems like a minor issue. I'll definitely check out your video for those tips - it's always helpful to learn from someone else's experience. Thanks for sharing, and keep up the great work on your channel! 👍🔧🚗

    So I’m having a problem with coolant leaking as well, but it’s not leaking onto the ground and it only leaks to a certain level before stopping. It only happened after I replaced the starter too. Could it also be the freeze plug, or is it likely something else?

    I just had this happen tonight. Or I should say found out about it. I bought the truck (total cream puff) for $500 because it wouldn't start. Gave it a tune up and put a new distributor in it and it started on the first crank. But after a min of running it started leaking coolant everywhere on the rear passenger side of the engine. I was really dreading it being the one behind the motor mount because its a 4x4 and has a lot going on right there. Fingers crossed its as straight forward as yours. Also, how big of a lift is that and what tires?

      Sorry to hear about your coolant leak. I chased this for some time before I figured it out and I think I got lucky on the location. Hopefully it's in the same location as mine was. I think you still got yourself a good truck. I figure at some point I will just either rebuild the motor or put a V8 in it. That's still to be determined. The truck drives great though! I've got the 4" Rough Country Lift, 17" Vision D Window steel wheels and the tires... I can't recall, but I've gotten asked so many times about that, I made a video! ruclips.net/video/tiE-PvhJDOE/видео.html

    is it possible to do something temporarily to divert that coolant from the starter? I just had my starter die, got a new one in & that one died... in less than 3 months. replaced it again under warranty but now that we know the coolant is what is killing it it won't be under warranty when this one goes. The guy who put my new engine in last August .... don't get me started on this story... but let's just say he is unable to wrap up several issues he had to do... since November.. so, I am trying to make it for another month when he should be able to get back to work. ugh!

      @@BuildYourOwn I don't know if you'd be able to offer some free advice but I have a 98 ford expedition, went in for a coil pack replacement and he to me the intake manifold gasket was leaking antifreeze into the cylinder ... any advice or quick fix or should I just spend the grand on it?

    • @BuildYourOwn
      @BuildYourOwn  2 года назад +1

      You could for sure get a second opinion and I think that if you can afford it and it does in fact need the gasket replaced, just do it and be done. No quick fixes have worked for my truck or my beetle. I do have several blue devil videos. Hope this helps

    • @BuildYourOwn
      @BuildYourOwn  2 года назад
