The popularity of lifting and gym lifestyle , the mass availability of knowledge and videos and also the availability of gyms with excellent equipment. I started lifting in 2008 in the same city as these lads and back then it was hard to even find a barbell and plates at a UK gym.
Well larry is an anomaly. He respond to gear better than anyone else. We dont know how many people like larry out there, and making teenagers benching 500 to find out is not a good example 😂 larry and baker was right, dont rush it. Even at the age of 10 or 11 the public school I went to had weightlifting class where they taught squat, bench, deadlift, power cleans and jerks. I believe American football culture had heavy influence on why it’s been so popular to have available gym equipment since the 70s and 80s for most of the country

When we maxed out in football, during high school and in college, we had to keep our butts on the bench at all times and no wraps. My high school max was 465lbs, at 6'1, 227, and in college was 510lbs at 245. I can only imagine, if we were allowed to use the power lifting style. Im 40 now and dont do a 1 rep max much..but would love to train with these guys and see where I end up. Good work fellas!

myself being the same age as matthew and only doing 265 I feel very inspired and although I am not on gear I see good competition and inspiration in this to do greater myself because he is going his way and I am going mine but at the end all we do is pr not only in the gym but ideally in other areas of life too thus sharing the same mindset and sharing the same passion for trying to lift as much heavy ass weight as possible thank you larry for your contribution to the sport

Never pauses, locks out on the way up pushes it back into the rack rather than a full rep - So i dont think he can bench above 700 at competition standard. Just doesnt seem to have the control required currently imo, but if starts training in that way then it maybe a possibility. Just to clarify again, still crazy strong and impressive 😅🙏

Brings back 1970's memories of when i was 15-18 yrs old playing high school football and in the Gym benchin 225-335 lbs, my dad was a Navy guy and i was using the Navy Military Base that had lots of Marines using the gym, i was 15 yrs old in there having fun and out benchin Marines, they all knew me and liked me, they wanted me to join the Marines after i got out of high school, but after i found out the recruiter would send me to someplace like Okinawa or Germany i said i wanna stay here with my family and Marine buddies here, i dont wanna leave these guys, and i never joined up because i wasn't leaving my Marine Gym friends.
