Why exactly is that? You offer no insight into why or how he might have done such a terrible thing, which leads me to believe you are nothing more than a pretentious liar, sir.
Miquel Cas Hmm, let's see... 1. 3/4 of the memorandum is the "good part". 2. He signed on 20/02/2015 an agreement which paved the way for the 3rd memorandum, in which the new Greek Government accepted everything the "anti-establishment" SYRIZA rejected before elected as a government. 3. Went to "negotiate" a cut of more than 50% of the debt, as SYRIZA claimed, while keeping on paying that debt! In fact, the Government drained every money deposit from local government, universities, hospitals and other sectors, a decision that proved disastrous. 4. Indulged in the idea of austerity by "negotiating" austerity measures. 5. That man claimed many times, directly or indirectly, that Greece can't stand on her own. You never say that. 5. He was the one who was planning the "double" or "parallel" currency, similar to the destructive Californian "IOUs" in 2009. 6. He signed a law imposing restrictions on banking activities, with a result of restraining the money of Greeks in the banks. It is assigned to the ECB to make sure banks are properly operating and provide them with sufficient money flow. This was an illegal decision and was a Governmental decision. Are those enough or should I go on?
Varoufakis actions was all on the good strategic course. 20 February agreement was huge gain, because you need time to negotiate. Paying while negotiating can be theoretically questionable but he didn't want to do negotiations with closed banks. If his government was willing to deny payments, he was gonna stop payments after June. His plan was great. EU out maneuvered Greek government with the coup. With closing banks while referendum was called, without giving a week delay to the June payment. That didn't changed referendum result, but changed final negotiations objectives. Maybe Varoufakis was a bit naive not expecting the coup. For sure markets didn't dropped his way. Leverage wasn't on Greece side. Don't blame yanis

The answer is : The Irish Govt. ( the "Establishment" ) wanted to keep their Jobs and stay in power, so the EU promised them they could ... if they passed on the BAD DEBT of Irish Banks that had borrowed too much money from International Banks ( with the EU's help ) .... to the Irish Tax Payer ... via Nationalization of the those Banks . Why is the ECB, a private organization, even recognized as an official institution with basically a monopoly on the issuing of our national currency? I would love to be able to pull all the crap they pull with my company. So, in perfect analogy with the EU, I can just have a referendum between a handful of friends of mine, and if they sign a treaty, without any actual voting by any actual citizens, that would give me the right to tax everyone in the EU to finance my organization, right? This sounds like a pretty solid business plan. Why do I end up in jail for having my buddies sign a piece of paper that grants me the right to steal from people, and these guys don't?
What a well-dressed bunch of crooks and liars. Browne: "Why do we have to pay billions for debts we didn't create?" Masuch: "Well, blah blah decision blah difficult blah blah economic blah blah, next question please!"
@MrVultcher German taxpayers shouldn't take a hit for Anglo. Neither should the Irish. The bank bailout was done on false info, should not have been renewed, and there is no legal obligation to pay out unsecured bondholders when the bank is bankrupt. The idea that the German taxpayer should put up with their government lending money to the Irish govt to repay speculators, and then the Irish taxpayer carries the can is ridiculous and contrary to the rules of investment and democracy.
Good on you Vincent ! You show no fear and your passion is to be envied . I wish we had a journalist of that calibre in New Zealand . Here , we have sycophants and minions to a neo liberal regime Hell bent on cosseting up to foreign banks and off shore investors . Deals some of our politicians are ominously brokering as I write . Ireland ! You have a worthy champion here . Make sure you give him and others like him the support he deserves ! @ faithforthefaithful ? Whos agenda are you pushing ?
The actual ANSWER to the question is of-course this: the banks OWN the government of Ireland and the PEOPLE of Ireland are being held HOSTAGE to a HOSTILE LEVERAGED TAKEOVER of their nation. This is like an equity investment fund coming up with a hostile take-over offer of a business and then selling parts of it or trying to restructure it, but in this case the restructuring is placed squarely on the shoulders of the citizens of Ireland (Greece, etc.), and the bondholders (banks) are made whole
Irish people are famous not only for their uneasy and revolutionary spirit but for their unbelievable willingness to resist to any form of oppression too like Bobby Sands
@@oog2370 Republic of Ireland with British newspapers, Gardai that display the Battenberg Pattern, the Sillitoe Tartan, and societies prefixed with Royal whose patron is QE II and her other family hangers on. Go way out of that!
We know he's hiding something. He knows we know he's hiding something. His Mummy next to him was just protecting here little boy. Fair play to ya Vincent.
"Michael Noonan, Irish finance minister, negotiated with the European Central Bank until mid-September to try to get approval to impose burden sharing on bank bondholders to reduce the cost of its bail out. But former ECB president Jean-Claude Trichet rejected the Irish proposals for fear it could cause contagion across Europe." FT
And especially now since we'r one of the very few AAA countries left in EU, ECB is demanding Finland to start secure even more loans to south. Our banks have veeeery few investments in south compared to for example German and French banks. Yet, we don't get orders worth of billions from Greece military in exchange for our help like German and France, even if we'r securing over 17 billions of debts of other European countries (over 20 % of our total debt)
Vincent they broke the mould when they made you, your refusal to be manipulated by both of them on the panel was a joy to witness. Sadly, we are lacking neutral and unbiased journalism today. You are sadly missed .
if only we had more people like Vincent ,maybe we wouldnt be as fucked as we are ,we should all act in his way "dont mind the bullshit ,get to the truth" thanks Vincent keep asking the RIGHT questions
@caseta well then there's countries which are always on the paying side. For example I'm from Finland, and every year since 1995 we have paid more to EU than received. This is where it gets more complicated, since for example our economy is driven by export, and most of our export goes to EU. But since we had to start taking care of South EU:s debts, this discussion has been up in Finland all the time. Especially when Greece is spending it on buying military equipment from France and Germany.
@caseta and what about Ireland? The people of Ireland didn't default on their debts. It was the banks who lobbied for lax regulations, it was the developers who overbuilt, and were left with ghost estates, and it was the bondholders who lent money into what was obviously a bad deal (housing demand had already peaked when the regulations were relaxed), so why should the Irish taxpayer, and not the individual bondholders pay up for this bad investment? Why should we pay for their "meal"?
from what I understand, his only answer is that the confidence of the banking system would be negatively effected and therefore puts the whole ponzi sheme at risk
@caseta The solution to our problems does not lie in making a larger state, which is even harder for the average person to hold accountable. If the people of Greece didn't want the EU to take over, what method would force it? Invasion?
What really pissed me off was how klaus attempted to soften the audience's judgement by using the analogy of the taxi-driver to represent his "support" and "respect" for the working man. I also thought that his total neglect to answer an honest question represented Europe's perception of the Irish State as a whole.
The woman to the right of the man on stage is the gatekeeper. The protector. While he himself does his best to wind his way out of answering Vincent Brown's question. A disgrace. Cornered. These are times gone but not forgotten!
The Greeks' heartfelt support to the proud Irish nation, presently suffering the results of the international banking system's greed for world domination. We pray that your wisdom and strength will help you out of your predicament. Do pray for us to vote wisely on the coming general elections on June the 17th, thus demonstrating to the IMF and the ECB that humanism is not represented on the face of a banknote but on the display of respect for human dignity. May God help us all to that end.
Mr Browne is absolutely right. Klaus Masuch did not respond to the question at all. He simply evaded it with a general statement that was totally not applicable to the question. Also, I thought that it was extremely rude to ask him to pass along the microphone in order to divert the attention from the question that's obviously too painful for them to try and answer.
@MrVultcher Lent money to the Greeks or to some bank with a HQ in Greece? There's a big difference. The people of a country are not some collective insurance policy for reckless speculators. The Germans did not lend the cash to Ireland at the height of the boom, the bondholders poured it into private banks, not the state coffers. They took a risk, and they don't want to face the consequences, and have been co-ercing Ireland into underwriting their losses.
I don't understand. Could a person there explain all of this: why do the peoples of Europe continue to allow the leaders to stay in office? If the peoples of the countries don't like what the various leaders are doing, why don't they vote them out of office? Could someone explain? Thank you.
@MarcBurwell Exactly, unlike Iceland who had the freedom to allow their banks to fail, and currency to devalue, Ireland has been unfairly prevented so in order to preserve EU banking, and the euro. In essence the irish public ended up guaranteeing banks we had no stake in! Yet the bondholders, and developers who benefitted greatly during the celtic tiger (more of a balloon tiger in reality), do not suffer now, while the general public, many of whom didn't benefit from the boom are suffering.
I sent a tweet it didnt get read as there was argueing at the end of the show. I said well done vincent its about time somebody with balls stood up too the ecb Kenny Out Vinb in.
The answer to this ----> 4:37 question is: because the ECB -like in the case of Greece- is earning 20 to 30% interest from this situations. Search for the 30th of May New York Times and you'll have the answer extensively.

The woman to the right of the man on stage is the gatekeeper. The protector. While he himself does his best to wind his way out of answering Vincent Brown's question. A disgrace. Cornered. These are times gone but not forgotten!
Agreed. And the way she said at the end “right, time to move on”. An amazing country ruined by scum in power
vincent browne - he is a pleasure to have- we should treasure him
Thank you Sir
Brilliant journalist, why did more not ask this simple question? This is the main reason Labour Party are finished in Ireland.
well done!
Well done Vincent Shame that’s the Ireland we live in now
The Greeks' heartfelt support to the proud Irish nation, presently suffering the results of the international banking system's greed for world domination.
He is a fucking boss!!!! That's how journalists MUST work!!!!!
he is impressed by the depth of discussion- what a phoney.
that taxi driver, and millions more of us, are keeping the likes of this fella in business
👏👏👏👏👏👏 the only journalist in Ireland with a pair of balls
@LuigiSpumante I agree "they" have to pay the price, as in the actual people responsible and not the Irish people who have no say anymore.
I sent a tweet it didnt get read as there was argueing at the end of the show. I said well done vincent its about time somebody with balls stood up too the ecb Kenny Out Vinb in.
