- Carbon fiber skinning all exterior plastic panels on the Smart fortwo, because, why not?
Carbon fiber might be expensive but I reconded it would still be cheaper than replacing all the broken panels with OEM parts if I did it myself.
I used:
200g carbon weave
SP 115 Resin
The blue carbon looks really fantastic. I think the rich and the silly people would have this in a couple of years and pay much money for this.
The blue parts look absolutely insane, maybe with a touch of black tint, the raw carbon would look even better, or maybe some metallic sparkle. I've just discovered your channel and I'm delighted, your craftsmanship is a joy to watch
Thank you very much! This was the first time I experimented with some colour and I must say my mind is already full of ideas for the next project. I think a light coat of metallic paint will be on the cards😁
Amazing job Danie!!! Love the way you fixed this little car.
Thank you!
Maan 👀, it looks incredible, your channel is absolutely insane I must say wow 🙏 keep up the insane content man 💪🏻
Thanks a lot dude!!
Driving around in that car looks like fun. I see them around here once in a while
Excellent... congratulations... regards from Athens Greece...
Thanks!
Love your work and your channel! Cheers from a 928 owner in Switzerland.
Thank you!🦈
Well done again bud. It looks amazing.
Thanks man!
You’re a mad man, I’m subscribing!
Just a little 🤏. Thanks!
Wow absolutely looks amazing that was awesome!
Thank you!
That blue came out really nice.
Thanks it was a moerse gamble😂
Daai tjorrie is so cute.
Awesome video, I will try to replicate it. How long was your carbon fiber fabric roll? I can only find rolls with 1.5m/3m length and 30-50cm width.
curious to see how long the carbon fibre stays looking nice , i suspect the bonding of the resin with the plastic isnt verry good as the plastic acts like teflon , i seen some repairs on these panels and they allways crack again or have the bodyfiller let loose from the plastic
the carbon fiber does look awesome , maibe IF i decide to do the same thing i will make the front and rear piece in carbon while its still mounted together , that should take care of the parts fitting together properly , the thickness of the carbon fiber over the existing panels messes with the connecting points a little
Your accent has been developed through millennia, specifically to say "hardener" to perfection. Cheers.
😂 Cheers!
How much weight did you save?
Really interesting and would never have thought of that. I noticed some panels seemed a bit uneven. Almost like the panel wasn't smooth under the carbon fibre. Was this down to preparation or another reason? Also was the clear coat sprayed on or brushed? I presume you can spray it on like a normal paint job?
Thanks! Yes some panels do show a little unevenness. If I did it again I would spend more time to smooth out the repairs with some filler and put more layers of resin so I can sand it down better before sanding into the carbon. The clear was sprayed on. But another option is to simply polish the resin to a shine
@@BroughBuilt thanks. I’m wondering if it’s worth me doing on the Aston or if the body has too many curves.
You are a good man, you deserve more views and attention, I suggest that you try collaborating with other youtubers and work more on the thumbnail and other platforms of Social media to promote your builds.
Also I am curious to know the status of your Mclaren F1 LM, where is it? And is it road legal?
Many thanks.
Thanks for the kind words! I am still learning a lot about thumbnails and social media (maybe I should get someone who can help?). But thanks for you comment!
I still have it. We are in the process of getting it road registered. All documentation has been handed in. Now I must wait for the red tape. But I still drive it from time to time
Ya Boet.... i like it! (u.k.)
3:08 OMG is that COCAINE?
:D
Would a carbon weave vinyl wrap not have been easier? Just asking.
Probably much easier. But it wouldn't have added strength to the panels
Where do you get your carbon from?
Hi. I got everything from AMT Composite in Johannesburg
@@BroughBuilt awesome! I’ve been looking at them too. They have a branch in Durban as well. Thanks for the info!
@@rushilkisoon cool man. Hope you come right. What project are you going to use it on?
@@BroughBuilt after seeing your McLaren build, I got inspired to create my own replica of a JDM body kit for my Corolla… so I have numerous pictures, which I have used, in combination with the car dimensions to make a rough idea of what I need to form using foam and some printed parts. Then possibly create the final kit in fibreglass, or maybe carbon if it’s feasible.
Dis nou oulik gaan ook probeer
So you skinned a whole car 🤣
Jup. Basically
