Best thing for cutting foam is an electric turkey carving knife. Cuts all types of foam clean and quick.

I love watching all the cool work you do on these cars. I've been wrenching for close to 40 yrs and learn new stuff everytime I watch you show.

Yeah, they'd need one of those huge pressurized ovens aircraft parts are cured in. But hey, that didn't stop Stockton Rush! 😅

I saw a news story where Stockton Rush was boasting that they used Rhino bedliner to protect the carbon fiber from the sea water...I've tried that on speaker boxes in truck beds that have no cover and are exposed to the weather..needless to say the bedliner failed to protect the MDF from just rain water...mix in under water pressure and sub was waiting to fail

Should have sprayed that releasing agent, but otherwise good episode. I like the fact that you DIDN'T do infusion with the CF. This is just another method that is easier for the DIYer to do (not better, but easier). I was also surprised that putting the CF on the door came out as good as it did, but I would have added extra epoxy BEFORE popping off the panel. This show gives me an idea about my C3 Z06 track car I plan to build.

That bumpy spot in the tooling orange is called aligation. Usually from not timing your layers right, or adding to much catalyst, gel thickness ect.

I used to work making whirlpool tubs with one of the mold makers who worked on the molds for the Vector cars. Lotta overlap between making tubs and composite auto parts.

That's super common. Usually replacing the body mount bushings will resolve it, assuming the mounting areas aren't rotted out.

I've owned two second generation Camaros. People don't realize how HEAVY these cars actually are. My 1978 weighed around 3700 without anyone in it. My 1972 was noticeably lighter. It was faster with a 350 than the 1978 was with a 400.

Should have built a backup structure AKA ( egg crating) to support the shape of the mold before you removed it.this would maintain form, and also allow for a steady mold with a flat bottom to rest on for layup.sorry I’m used to thinking production, not prototyping

Novice here. What’s the difference between using the expanding foam from the hardware store and this 2-part mix? And how do you get it off the car after the mold is done?
Also, I’m too scared to sand down my fenders in case it looks like dogshit when done. Can I just wrap some vinyl or masking tape on the car rather than sand it down? Thanks

Expando foam is great for making widebody kits or fender flares. I don't see what all the negativity is all about. I get that some would just leave it there and glass over it but to each their own.

Oh dear ... that fiberglass layer adds absolutely zero strength to the panel, only weight.
Had you put it between the two CF layers, it'd at least make the panel a bit stiffer by spacing out the CF.

The same thing could be done in just fiberglass. The carbon fiber is really the only expensive thing here. Hot rodding can be as cheap and creative as you want, or as expensive as you want, like Ring Brothers
