    That is sadly not a Cooper. It's a base model Mini 850 (848cc engine). Mini Coopers were produced between 1961-1971 then reintroduced and built between 1990-2000. Nice little Mini though. Enjoy.

      Thank you! And you’re right - slip of the tongue saying Cooper. Mine was originally an 850 here but a couple years ago got a similar 998 put in!

    I'm 50 years old now and my father had a van version of the Mini (in a Clubman front style) back in the 1970s.
    There were LOADS of Minis around here in Portugal by that time. This video is such a fantastic opportunity to see how actual USA citizens would see part of what made our old times here in Europe.
    Now, I wonder hoe do you deal with mechanics with such a rare car there in the USA?
    Thank you for this precious video.
    Greetings

      So cool! Luckily where I live (Seattle & San Francisco) there are great mechanics and we are able to source parts around here, or bring them over from the UK quickly. But certainly there are parts of the country where it's not quite as easy. Really want to bring the car back to Europe at some point to drive it there, on roads more fitting to it!

    Their was a family who lived on my street who had 17 mini coopers. All the limited edition ones they made. Every sunday like 40 minis would pull up outside my house and then theyd go for a drive in a big train. Was beautiful and colourful❤

      @@benbomcars I own a 998cc 1965 Austin Cooper (not a Cooper S unfortunately), but over the years previous owners have added Cooper S brakes, gearbox etc, so it's now bit of a mix, so I guess nothing stopping you from Cooperizing yours if you ever feel the need to perk it up a bit. Have fun with your new toy!

    That was great ! Was it your girlfriend following you ? She said it's so tiny ! That's probably why it's called a mini !😂 Benjamin, not all mini's are called coopers . Yours is simply a mini . I still think you were brave to take such a long journey ,even luckier to find an exhaust so easily. Did you know that Steve McQueen had a Cooper 's' one of his favourite cars. I flew over from the uk in 1997 to stay with my Aunt in Gig Harbor for a few days . Beautiful part of the world ! Thanks for sharing.

    • @benbomcars
      @benbomcars  3 года назад

      Haha it was a friend following when I picked it up (not girlfriend) who was driving a crown vic ex police car. It was hilarious to me picking it up at the port and seeing how small it was, even next to his sedan!
      And a slip of the tongue saying cooper. This one was an 850 originally that later got a 998 engine installed! So a slight power upgrade. And I was luckily able to ship the exhaust system in from the UK and it ended up being quite simple.
      And that’s great you stayed in Gig Harbor! While I live about 45 mins north in Seattle now I spent all my summers when I was younger in Gig Harbor. So I know that area very well and still love going out there and relaxing by the water on the weekends. I’m glad you got to visit!

    Right on man, nice to see someone drive their mini instead of keeping it in their garage or trailering them to shows. I've had 22 minis in my 38 years and my current daily driver is a '94 Cooper. I live in BC Canada and have done a road trip across Canada and back with my 10 year old son back in 2016. It was sooo fun and have so many awesome memories. One of the trips I'd like to do someday is go down the coast to San Diego. Anyway, great video and motor on!👍

      @@benbomcars coopers are slightly overrated in my opinion, sure they are great dont get me wrong, but you can make any Mini better than Coopers and have money to spare. If you really want the emotion of having a original Cooper, go for it, but prepare to save some cash for that added emotional value. Or just buy any Mini and modify it to your liking.

    Nice specimen! I also bought one semi-unseen-I viewed pictures then I flew out to pick it up with certified cheque in hand!
    Were you able to get up to highway speeds without issues (such as excessive noise, shaking, strain)?

    • @benbomcars
      @benbomcars  3 года назад

      That’s so great! And yep I could just get it up to highway speeds - it travelled reliably at about 60 (unless it was uphill) and was smooth enough and quiet enough! Since then I did a “stage 1 tune” which added new headers, exhaust, and a tuned carb. With that modification it gained about 10 HP and feels much more quick and comfortable at highway speeds which has been great!
