Hi guys, love your reaction. Just a bit more information - I speak Russian and have checked out info on a couple of documentaries. Her adoptive mum took her because of her eyes and the pain she saw in them, Mum learnt how to make dresses because her wage was so small -at that time maybe 300 - 400 dollars a month (rate fluctuations) and Diana needed a new dress quite often for singing events. But, and this cuts across what you were saying, even up to three years ago Diana would frequently ask if her adoptive mother was going to give her up - which points to an awful state of mind. Furthermore, until recently, she was always looking around fearful that her birth mother would come looking for her. Just beginning to look rosy for her now - for which we should all be thankful.

Arsenyev is in the far east of Russia near the Pacific Ocean, the border with China and the border with Inner Mongolia. Her mother was an alcoholic and beat her, put out cigarettes butts on her body. Relatives found her in the street in the middle of winter with a broken collar bone. None of them wanted her because they thought she was mentally deficient. They placed into a Russian Orphanage at three (3) years of age and she was adopted at five (5) by a Russian woman named Irina. Because her language was so very poor, her Foster Mother took her to a vocal coach. The vocal coach discovered she has musical talent and she has been singing publicly from the age of 5. Her native language is Russian but, she is NOT Slavic. She is a native and probably Mongolian. She sings in French, English, Russian and Spanish, was a beautiful child and a beautiful teenager. She is now 17, has a deep contralto voice and is working on her upper register. In my view, she is a Cinderella story and her Foster Mother deserves much of the credit. She is a Great Artist with a unique voice, has blossomed through hard work for the past 12 years and, as a classically singer with a wide range, she is a joy to watch and listen too.

Hi guys, love your reaction. Just a bit more information - I speak Russian and have checked out info on a couple of documentaries. Her adoptive mum took her because of her eyes and the pain she saw in them, Mum learnt how to make dresses because her wage was so small -at that time maybe 300 - 400 dollars a month (rate fluctuations) and Diana needed a new dress quite often for singing events. But, and this cuts across what you were saying, even up to three years ago Diana would frequently ask if her adoptive mother was going to give her up - which points to an awful state of mind. Furthermore, until recently, she was always looking around fearful that her birth mother would come looking for her. Just beginning to look rosy for her now - for which we should all be thankful.

This is an old wedding ritual song, it's like a puzzle, it consists of phrases taken from ritual songs. Where it is sung in a whisper is like the words of a deceased mother, because in Russia since ancient times it was believed that the river is the border between the world of the living and the dead, as in the mythology of others countries. So the girl-orphan came to the river to tell the mother that she was being given away for the unloved, to a strange family, ask for blessings and cry.

I strongly suppose if Diana could dig it through her future carreara, it would be so powerful for creating a new source for Russian soft power.. I just learned that Diana auditioned for The Voice Kids (Russia) a year before this performance, and not one coach turned a chair for her. Granted that, at her age, a lot can change in one year, but it still seems hard to imagine . . . .

Diana Ankudinova was born in Arsenyev, Russia on May 31, 2003. Arsenyev is in the far east
of Russia near the Pacific Ocean, the border with China and the border with Inner Mongolia.
Her mother was an alcoholic and beat her, put out cigarettes butts on her body. Relatives found
her in the street in the middle of winter with a broken collar bone. None of them wanted her
because they thought she was mentally deficient. They placed into a Russian Orphanage at
three (3) years of age and she was adopted at five (5) by a Russian woman named Irina.
Because her language was so very poor, her Foster Mother took her to a vocal coach. The
vocal coach discovered she has musical talent and she has been singing publicly from the age
of 5. Her native language is Russian but, she is NOT Slavic. She is a native and probably
Mongolian. She sings in French, English, Russian and Spanish, was a beautiful child and a
beautiful teenager. She is now 17, has a deep contralto voice and is working on her upper
register. In my view, she is a Cinderella story and her Foster Mother deserves much of the
credit. She is a Great Artist with a unique voice, has blossomed through hard work for the past 12 years and, as a classically singer with a wide range, she is a joy to watch and listen too.
Her voice is haunting yet satisfying. I recommend you listen to her singing ‘Human’ next.
Also, glad to hear that you did a little research. We never really know what a person has been through, their pain. I feel like she sings from pain sometimes. Even if the song is intended to not be dark or sad. Maybe it’s her tone.
