Owning the 2011 S version myself, I fully underwrite the conclusions in the video. It’s a fun bike to go anywhere. After all these years, it can still compete with newer kids on the block. Loads of character, brutal engine and 3 motorcycles in 1; what’s not to like? Well yeah, the electronic gremlins and expensive maintenance services. For me it’s all worth it though!

    • @idratherberiding3456
      @idratherberiding3456  5 месяцев назад +1

Considering the price of a new one, which may not perform much better, the first series are well worth the maintenance cost.

Other maintenance parts I’ve had a fuel sensor and a Lamba sensor fail. Still rides like new and looks great. But is getting old will probably change next year to a MTS v4s

Brilliant video and very interesting. I have the exact same bike but got it in 2014. I decided to get the full bore service at 23,000 km rather than change the bike just because I still love the raw beauty of it. Hope you do the same !! The new version is truly amazing but I may wait some time before trying it. I would not want to regret trading in the 2014 pikes peak, love the exhaust, the tyre size etc etc. Best of luck for the future !

    Great video.
I bought my 2013 multistrada 5 years ago, it is my favourite bike of all time.
I bought a 1260 multistrada a year ago, very nice bike, but my 1200 is different, it's my bike. I prefer the 1200 pretty much because of the engine. The 1260 engine is fantastic, but the overall character of the 1200 works for me. Much more torque, and the way the engine responds is just the way I want it to. By the way I bought the 1260 thinking that my 1200 was getting old, perhaps I should just have a newer bike as an option. Neat idea, but in the end I'm staying with the 1200.
    A couple of things.
My bike has been great, very few problems.
I am also due for the desmo service, I will just bite the bullet - I can't change to another bike. I'll just accept the cost. (60,000 km now)
    About low rpm engine performance.
I bought a tuneboy ECU programmer 4 years ago, and spend all 4 years developing my own engine map. The bike is now simply amazing. It has improved steadily over especially the last 18 months as I really got to understand the engine map, but the last 6 months I have made a real breakthrough. It is now better than anything I could have imagined 4 years ago. Every time I ride the bike it is such an amazing thrill, I often wonder if Ducati know what a miracle the engine is - their default engine map certainly doesn't exhibit any of what the engine is capable of.
A comment. You say your multistrada rides like when it was new. I had to smile. Mine was nice when I bought it, I liked it, but if I were to give that bike perhaps 6/10, I would give it 7.5/10 now with the current engine map.
I absolutely love my 1200. It's great to see someone else with a similar viewpoint on the bike.
A very last thought. This is probably more than you would want to attempt, but just in case - if you want to try my engine map I would be happy to provide it to you, no charge.

Thank you so much for your comment. It greatly improves the video, when people seriously interested in this bike check the comments for extra information (I do that), your comment will be a great source of information.
I agree with you, the character of the motor is what counts. And this motorcycle has plenty. It sounds great. It is smooth. But it also feels raw! Like in it is aggressive, this motorcycle pushes me to ride faster. It is engaging!
About the low RPM thing, actually my bike does it very well, from the start, it was always perfect. Maybe I got lucky? But thank you so much for your offer.
My only criticism is for the motorcycle reviewers, the ones who want to evaluate a motorcycle by how well it rides at 25-30mph in 6th gear. I just don't get it why is that so important... LOL. On mine, I drop it down to third gear when getting into traffic or going through villages, and it is smooth on those speeds! And then I can enjoy accelerating back to higher speeds, going through the gears. The fun factor is THERE. LOL.
      Thanks again!!!

I have a 2014 GT model and it does everything my RT did, except for cruise control. It even carries the full camping load better than the RT did since the side cases are further forward and the trunk is further forward. Much more fun in the twisty mountains than the 1200RT.

The lack of access to manuals, codes and resetting the service light are big deterrents for me. Well, that and having owned an old Ducati in the past! I'm willing to take another chance, and I'm handy, but Ducati really doesn't want owners to touch those bikes and it's hard for me to accept. It better not break down ever, but how likely is that. BTW, Desmo valve service isn't that much more difficult than on conventional motors or Japanese bikes.

I was looking for a 1260 pikes peak model but even on the 2nd hand market they ask around 18 to 20.000,- euro's for one with not too much milage. For that money I bought a 2023 model KTM Adventure S, might not be as pretty but has more tech and better (light) offroad capabilities. Maybe I will upgrade to the V4 model when the prices come down a little.

That's a hard decision. If you like HP, I would recommend the V4 rally. Otherwise, I would go with the 2020 1260. But if I wanted to get the original, raw feel, the 2012 would do it. But ultimately, all four are great options. But prices seem to be too high for all. There must be some room for negotiation there.
