Now will there be a problem in hearing after Otoplasty surgery. That's one of the common questions that are asked by the parents of children. Now let me reassure you that hearing is not affected by autoplasty surgery because otoplasty or also called as pinnaplasty is the surgery done to the external ear. It is in no way connected to the middle ear or the inner ear which is responsible for the hearing function autoplasty is a reconstructive surgery for the appearance of the external ear. It is in no way connected to hearing. So let me reassure you that hearing is not affected by otoplasty surgery. Now this Otoplasty surgery is done to correct the ear deformities like prominent ear, bat year stahl ear and cup ear and things like that and we do that surgery at around 9 to 10 years of age which is supposed to be the ideal age to do this surgery. Please don't get the surgery done very early because your child will grow and then by 10 years of age your child might require a redo surgery and don't allow your child to completely become an adult too before doing this surgery because this kind of of ear abnormalities can have a very detrimental effect on the psychology of the child as well . When the child is going to the school he or she might be teased bullied because of the shape of the ear. So that's also an important factor. So it is extremely important to do the surgery at the right age that is around 9 to 10 years of age.
