  • Today we are looking at the differences between Chercher and Chercher à in French. An easy French grammar lesson.
    Chercher will be followed by a noun - Chercher quelque chose - To look for something
    Chercher à will be followed by an infinitive verb - Chercher à faire quelque chose - To try to do something.

    I tried Teaching ESL to Mandarin Speaking Students in the past & very much enjoyed it. I was ashamed of not being able to speak to them in Mandarin. (As you do speak to us in English as a Speaker of Linguistic French).
    They were frequently almost fluent in English? After Grammar, I used Thematic Practicum approaches such as for example... a Theme, such as a list of Phobias... to make it fun, and various things associated with each one on a long list of them...

      That must have been a great experience! I taught a few people who didn't speak English and that was definitely harder!

    The emphasis on using the right preposition with Chercher and Essayer clarified so much for me already. Also, bought your Passé Composé book and Short stories book and they have been very helpful. Thank you!

      Yeah, prepositions are one of the hard things about learning French... and probably English to those who didn't learn it growing up. In a lot of cases, more than one preposition would make sense, so you just have to memorize which one is actually used.

    J'aime utiliser "Je cherche ..." quand je suis dans un magsin et je n'arrive pas trouver quelque chose. Je ne connais jamais "Chercher a ..." mais je vais l'ajouter a ma vocablulaire francaise

      hi there, why did you write "J'ai hâte de regarder" not J'ai hâte regarder? what is the significance of "de" in the sentence.

      @@pb65preet "avoir hâte de" It's an expression means "to be excited to do something
      I used "de" because I put an Infinitive verb
      Aoir hâte de follows by an infinitive
      and avoir hâte que follows by Subjunctive

Even though I watch you through a computer screen, I feel like you are my real french teacher. You not only teach me through videos but you are available and respond to me when I have questions about certain subjects I may not understand. When people ask me, "How did you learn french?" I tell them that my teacher's name is Dylane and she is from belgium and is the best french teacher that exists! 🤩

    I like how practical your sentence examples are...It's not like one of those "searching for a galaxy" abstract sentences. It's something that's common and can be used as parts or as a whole when constructing a sentence. Good stuff!!

      We left the province (we are moving to Nova Scotia) just before it all went up so we are safe but incredibly sad for people there 😢
