I've seen some people do early reviews and complain about the companions telling you how to do things. But that literally disappears very early on. I spent the rest of the game hitting crystals, picking up wisps, and moving statues with nary a peep from them. So yeah, there are a lot of people not understanding that this won't be for the whole game. I haven't seen this level of ridiculous complaints since DA2.
@julilla1 so they don't tell you that you should get out of some AoE, that you are being attacked from behind or shot or that they've taken care of their enemy so now it's your turn?
@julilla1 possibly. It's been several years since my last DAI playthrough, so I can not judge that. Though I really doubt that because you could have controlled multiple characters so alerting the player about position would be confusing. Also, why would you do it. There was no evasion, blocking, or anything to what the player could react to. Either way, it's not relevant because the criticism is not of DA series but specifically of Veilguard, and in this game, almost all potential player mistakes are commented. If you would compare it to God of War, a game that has been criticised for similar things, Veilguard is multiple times worse.
I also like that if you don't have the right companion with you and they have unlocked the ability. Rook can use the knife to do the thing, without having to jump back and forth between companions. I'm in my second playthrough, and this is my game of the year 😊

I love the puzzles because as the game goes on, they actually provide you with info you need to figure them out so you dont spend hours just moving things around until you stumble upon a possible answer. I have completed a full run and I found the difficulty perfectly in the middle-and it's the first time I completed all of the ones I ran into instead of leaving some aside or watching a You Tube video to figure them out.
Also, puzzle difficulty is subjective. There was a puzzle in a previous SWTOR update that I worked out and completed within 5 minutes, and then I watch a RUclipsr play through the same update and take over 20 minutes to work out the puzzle while also eventually getting hints from their friend. I've also seen someone in one of my Dragon Age FB groups ask if anyone else had difficulty with the big laser puzzle in Bellara's quest and a fair few responded that they too struggled a bit with working out that puzzle. I didn't have any real difficulty with that puzzle at all. What may be easy for one person may be difficult for another.

I beat the game and never felt like I encountered a genuinely complex puzzle. Even the grey warden one you mentioned essentially boils down to “look around the room and find the thing”, and the ‘complexity’ of the puzzles come from how many steps it takes to find the thing. I think the other argument, that this isn’t meant to be a puzzle game in the first place, serves as a better basis for defense. The reason I had no issue with the simple puzzles was because I’m here for the story and exploring and interacting with this world as this character, not for brain busting puzzles. What puzzles are there serve as a nice way to vary the gameplay while also (by using companion abilities) making you feel like you’re engaging with the world as your party. They’re basically just a way to add a little spice to exploration, and they function well in that regard

I totally understand what your saying but I really wish they didn’t use Dragon Age as the game to introduce new players to RPG”s. I think that is a big reason so many people have a problem with it. You stated in a previous video that you felt that “ the more people that a game gets, the better”. That’s a valid opinion that I’ve thought about many times over the years. I disagree. I don’t think every game needs to be so inclusive that it fundamentally changes the series. A new player can play the earlier games to familiarize themselves with the mechanics. That being said, I’m playing The Veilguard and I’m enjoying it. It’s just not what I wish it was and that’s ok. It’s still fun and it’s still Thedas.
I have about 30 hours in the game. I don't have a problem with the puzzles. I have a problem with the dialog, I have a problem with the world ambience. I have a problem with the fact that this is NOT A RPG. This is a disney/pixar game with rpg elements shoving a message down our throats rather than telling a story. This game commits what is in my opinion, one of the worst rules to break. It tells you instead of showing you.
I quite liked the game... However, one cannot help to think about some of the games flaws with how the internet is aflame... So... the critics do have a point that companion behavior / lighthouse dialog is a bit childish (Harding, Bellara specifically + Taash obviously) (the only crucial flaw IMHO). Most importantly, most flaws in the games are easy to see and should be easy to fix as well. I wonder why they let all that pass... :(
I like the game too but I'm going to have too disagree with this one kinda because dragon age has always had childish dialogue like swooping is bad and being fond of the Howes and the who's and the what's. Also the serious parts like taash seeing her mom beheaded right in front of her or Davrin looking sad walking away from asaan. Bellara having to kill her brother It makes the companions in all dragon age games feel alive. I just think the critics want a super serious game with no soul and where everyone is serious about everything and that is not what they are going to find in the entire series.
@@teeboysmith2413 you might be just right. I am not sure that previous game were any better or worse in that respect. It just was the one thing that annoyed me, and I did skip (press SPACE compulsively) many dialogs as a result.
You are once again disregarding criticism by pointing out, that people who haven't really played the game are saying it, even though it is also a thing that a lot of people, who have finished the game are saying to. Also I think you are intentionally misunderstanding the point of the criticism and not for the first time. Sure the game will have good ones, but the issue some have is with the most frequent ones. That those are at times so simple and so repetitive, that it feels like a waste of time or a nuisance doing them. I get it you like the game, which is great, but based upon your approach to criticism of others I get the feeling, that you like smugly disregarding them even more. That possibly your rating of the game is not about the game, but about the people, who disagree with you.
@@Renfail so your content is a parody? Parody of what? Objective reviewer? This makes me sad, because I really though you are genuinely positive about the game. Instead you are twisting some criticism, so that it is easy for you to label it as not relevant and disregarding other because it is said by people, whom you dislike. If the game was really good, you wouldn't need to do neither. Also, being snarky at genuine attempts at feedback or conversation is really making wonders for your credibility at least in my eyes.
You do realized he is making fun of Crybaby who didn't played the game and show the first puzzle, purposely lying, not the other. Yes the puzzle aren't hard , mostly simple when we have all the character. It's not a bad thing. But it's just a way to close area. Did we really needed more complicated puzzle? I'm not sure but would it have been pleasant? Yes sure. There is some rare instance where there is a bit more well thoughted puzzle that take you some minutes to figure out. And it's welcome.
Origins was so good... I was waiting for DA2 like a little excited kid... then it came out and it was nothing like Origins more like an action game, no more tactical combat gameplay... then I had my hopes high for Inquisition which was also bad and I will never understand how someone can like the combat there, you just wait to spam your skills and enemies are sponges... I didn't have no hopes for Veilguard because I don't care for these series anymore.
Finally admitting it's so simple puzzles and linear non-rpg. I loved your previous honest games reviews...wtf happened, did you make a "deal" and sell your soul to EA / Bioware??? Or did you do an honest mistake prasing the game and now you can't admit you were wrong in your poor judgement? So your vanity in in the way of your credibility? Now it's "new players" idiotic argument? Well I'm done with your poor judgement until you get back to credible game feedback. Good luck!
It is bot simply about new players and veterans. It is about quality. If I experience something new that has quality, I get hooked, has nothing to do with veteran status or not. Certainly, as someone who is experienced, you recognize bs a lot faster, but that is a different aspect. Take the fighting - looks solid at the beginning, but later on you realize how poor it is. It get's a bit countered with more abilities and builds you get after many hours, but it also shows you how shallow it is in its entirety. Riddles in general I do not care much - this game its just running and jumping around use an ability to get access and that's it. I do not mind simple riddles because that is for me not an important aspect, but I can get a bit annoyed if all I do is run around. A bit like those fetch abc quests in RPGs. And I think with the "show indicator" option this game does not really have riddles? But again I don't care and nothing interesting comes to mind.
@@Renfail I do indeed not understand what you mean by parody. Are you calling the game such or your comment? At first I thought you were not serious, but the entirety of your video did not convey that that much. Sorry not entirely certain what you mean by that.
@@kevinlist3330 Yes I turned it off, simply because I enjoy my games more with less of those things, like dmg numbers, etc. Health bar sadly is important in those dodge heavy games where timing is more relevant than anything else. But it does not change the nature of those things - I can't remember a puzzle in this game that deserves the name. Maybe the torches/ statues for a minimalisti kind of puzzle - the rest was either a companion skill or just running around. But again, don't care much about puzzles, I just hope the running around part does not get too tedious. And Inquisition - can't remember about puzzles. I play dragon age for the story, setting and because I like RPG's.
@@kevinlist3330 The running around was targeted towards riddles. Ain't a riddle if I just have to go from here to there to fetch something to bring it over here. Or run around a map to turn a statue towards another one. That is just prolonging a task and try to sell it as a riddle. Probably extremely boring for people who want riddles, like in cRPGs, or me, who does not care so much about riddles but rather not have me run around 5 times just to get somewhere to activate a door, which you do a lot in this game. Running around in an RPG world is not the problem, you are mixing those things here. And I'm also not stating that Inquisition or DA2 were great in this regard. I remember DA2 was awful at the start and the same "Dungeons" over and over. In that regard Veilguard is much better because it is way more visually appealing. But open word still beats the - running the same way for the 1000 time again. The problem with Veilguard is though that it is lacking in every aspect, hence smaller less important aspects like the riddles feel so much worse, because everything stacks up. My whole point was at a statement in regards to the one made in the video - the reason is not to cater towards new people. That might be the argument they voice, but it is only an argument for people who do not know the extend of quality. Deliver quality and it does not matter if you are a new player. Quality aint complexity. Second part you need to consider, first part you need to deliver. Dragon Age series deliverd on story, setting, diverse cultures and different progression, hence people still complained about level desing, combat etc, but still enjoyed it. Veilguard lacks everywhere, hence you get even more annoyed by all the additional details. But again, this is another discussion and not the reason for my comment.
@@kevinlist3330 I do not seperate those two things, using the word in the same manner. Some are puzzles, some are riddles. Whatever - anything that needs some brain power. Veilguard needs no brain power it needs legs and a dagger.
You contradict yourself in your video. You claim puzzles and characters get more complex as you progress the game, then go on to explain how some puzzles only unlock later on and how you would never know that you require specific characters to solve some puzzles if you haven't played the game for only the opening few hours. Which is fine. You are claiming the reason why people call the puzzles and writing bad is because they have not played long enough to get to the supposedly good parts yet. You however ALSO point out that Taash is one of the last companions you get. This character is also the center of a lot of criticism and reviews and "hate" videos prominently feature footage of her. So what, people somehow have her - one of the last companions you get - in their team but also haven't actually progressed the game enough to get to the difficult puzzles and good writing? That makes no sense at all. All you're doing is handwaving valid criticisms away with made up claims of people not having played the game. Not to mention that needing to unlock specific characters abilities to solve a puzzle does in no way make said puzzle inherently more difficult or entertaining to solve.
People didn't play the game to start hating Taash, they were mad from clips they saw on youtube way before the game released. The push-ups one that you all hate so much is legit like one of the last parts of her story, I was like 60 hours in by the time I got there. But you were all raging and frothing at the mouth and grabbing pitch forks after seeing it completely out of context before the game even came out.

I look forward to you building a video game that meets your standards!
This game was created for 10 years old people.
hugs and kisses!
just a quick quistion , for you people who like this game, is this a 9/10 ?
depends on the person. Lots of 6s and 7s out there as well. The overall consensus across all major review outlest is in the 7.5 - 8.0 range
You and I are playing COMPLETELY different games.
Nope
I like the game too but I'm going to have too disagree with this one kinda
because dragon age has always had childish dialogue like swooping is bad and being fond of the Howes and the who's and the what's. Also the serious parts like taash seeing her mom beheaded right in front of her or Davrin looking sad walking away from asaan. Bellara having to kill her brother
It makes the companions in all dragon age games feel alive.
Tell us you don't understand what a parody is, without telling us you don't understand what a parody is.
@vojtam5063 hahahahahahaha
@Renfail how very nice of you and so mature. It seems that with age comes wisdom.
The game is an 8 out of 10 for me. But as for addictiveness and fun a 10 out of 10.
This was a nice explanation for something I didn't know how to convey. I'm going to share it with some people who are actually open minded.
I hope it helps them to see the light!
Good luck!
Tell us you don't know what a parody is, without telling us that you don't know what a parody is.
Tell us you don't understand parody without telling us you don't understand parody.
Tell us you don't understand what a parody is without telling us you don't understand what a parody is.
People didn't play the game to start hating Taash, they were mad from clips they saw on youtube way before the game released. The push-ups one that you all hate so much is legit like one of the last parts of her story, I was like 60 hours in by the time I got there. But you were all raging and frothing at the mouth and grabbing pitch forks after seeing it completely out of context before the game even came out.
you look like someone who would like this game
hugs and kisses
The sales reports for this game are glorious, trully a masterpiece😂😂😂
