Cuba an Ally for U.S. Coast Guard

  • Many U.S. politicians refer to Cuba as a national security threat to the United States, which is often used to justify sanctions against the island.
But U.S. security forces, like the U.S. Coast Guard Service and others who work directly with their Cuban counterparts, consider Cuba an ally.
"Thank you for the work you all do," one Coast Guard officer stationed in Miami told his Cuban counterpart during a joint U.S.-Cuba counternarcotics operation in eastern Cuba to which Belly of the Beast gained access.
While the Biden administration has embraced Trump's hard-line policy toward Cuba- including designating Cuba a state sponsor of terrorism, without presenting any evidence-experts say that the U.S. has quietly worked with Cuba in counter-terrorism efforts as well as the fight against drug and human trafficking.
“There are gains in key security areas for the United States from cooperation with Cuba that frankly there aren’t with any other Latin American country,” said Hal Klepak, professor emeritus at the Royal Military College of Canada, who has advised Canada’s defense and foreign affairs ministries on Latin America.
“The most efficient partner of the United States in security terms in Latin America is Cuba,” Klepak said.

Why what has Cuba done to deserve this? It's time to let Cubans travel give them freedom of expression. Have free elections. By the way I'm glad to hear that Cuba is fighting drug trafficking nobody likes drug dealers. But that doesnt mean.much.

The fact that Cuba fights drug trafficking doesnt mean much. Its expected that they do their part in the region. Nobody wants drugs it destroys the social fabric of society. But it has nothing to do with the issues facing Cuba. Leaders can not have misplaced mercy. Cuba must have real reforms before sanctions are lifted. This content is not effective there is a lot of nuance you fail to see.

@@WelcomingStorms 61 years of embargo hasn't changed a thing. Instead of lifting it and embracing them in their arms they are pushing them in the hands of autocrats while being clearly in all USA sphere of influence.

Congratulations on discovering something that has existed for decades. And, has been known by those trying to improve Cuba - US relations by knowledge and realistic actions, not social media posting.
