When I did contract work for Boeing in the 1980s I was told that the company's executives didn't use private jets because that might irritate their primary customers-commercial airlines. I wonder when that policy changed.
This was part of the problem at Boeing. They moved their corporate offices away from their main production facilities so upper management could focus on keeping the stock price up instead of dealing with production problems. At least the new CEO bought a house near Seattle so problems could be brought to the front door.
Those ambitious times: you've got to add 2.5 hours to clear security, 1.5 home to launch pad, 1.5 launch & landing pad to final destination. So 5.5 hours added on as a minimum = basically 6 hours to anywhere in the world with a launch & landing pad. DOGE can help fix that.
And you’d have to fly across the country just to get to whatever point it takes off from. And of course better not to think that 1 of 100 rocket launches on average ends in an explosion.
** From Max ** FYI in that intro video I made the Destination Sydney because of all my fantastic Australia subs. The video came with a Singapore destination but I wanted to give you a shout out 🤣
Port Phillip Bay MELBOURNE (Australia's biggest city) is, in practical terms, the only Australian destination I can think of where this quiet rocket nonsense could be theorised plausibly.......but only in the Elon/Hollywood sci-fi fictional sense. Expect big winds occasionally and the NDB approach procedure would have to be suspended of course.
Have not even watched the video but, I have seen the business jets and heard of the "business" trips. Maybe Kelly will turn us around. My career depends on it.
The most important business jets are the 2 new Boeing 747-800i Air Force Ones to replacing the 2 aging 747-200/300s Air Force Ones. Max, please investigate and report on the what and why of Boeing’s endless delays of the 2 new 747-800i Air Force Ones, which were to be delivered years ago.
As mindlessly far-out as it sounds, I see no reason not to implement it. If he's serious about 1000 passengers and a ticket cost about $10K then there's an enormous market in it even if a ship needs millions in referb after a dozen flights. That's a billion in gross profit after fuel costs. I dunno? Is there are market? Do that many people want to pay 2-3X first-class rates? Maybe.. the first luxury steam ship wasn't further out than this idea.
I have had it with SpaceX and their intercontinentale flights, it is just a pipedream. It is nice to think about those dreams but they have little hope to become a reality. The world be in a world war within a few years anyways.
Well if this is true, then respect to the new CEO. If everyone has to tighten their belt to save Boeing, so should the executives! Lead by example, or no one will buy into it!!!! It’s not rocket science, and Boeing is into rocket science, so you would think they know.
I am sure that if Spaceship only needed to be _the_ "Final Destination" then Boeing could built them now. Bigger and faster than ever. Good call to make Boeing managers fly Boeing.
executive Economy sounds a lot like me to what they call the trade eating dog food. It’s probably the first time a lot of these executives have actually had to suffer cattle class.
spaceX travel time less than an hour....however adding in check-in time, immigration, ferrying, boarding, disembarking, ferrying and immigration again, and customs will easily all add-up to 3 to 4 hours total
Ortberg's eliminating the private jets sends executives a clear message to move cities to where your job is. Hopefully Boeing executives will also learn how f*ing uncomfortable their jets are for anyone over 5'9". That is the thing, when you do not use your own product line you do not understand the consumer experience. Same deal for airline executives.
To be fair, it’s the airlines that decide on seat pitch. Just make Boeing execs fly Boeing. Business class seats tend to be less safe than econ since they are towards the front of the plane
Glad you had a good TG. I'd not heard of this plan for Starship but it does make sense as it seems utterly useless for its Moon and Mars (which is pointless anyway) missions. So why?
Starship as an ultra express cargo hauler I can buy into. As an ultra express replacement for Boeing, Airbus, et al products? There I have a harder time - Not sure how SpaceX can get the timing to make sense (outside of the flight itself), let alone have the costs make sense and deal with the regulatory red tape. While President Trump could certainly put both thumbs on the regulatory scales in Elon's favor... Given how novel the concept is I expect there'll still be substantial red tape SpaceX has to navigate.
Ok let's see, superheavy 4000tons of propellant not including starship, 100 passengers, 20000km. Half a km per passenger per liter. I think a 747 does about 70. Plus you have a 50% chance of blowing up. Hard pass
'Execs to fly economy? No worries, they can bring their bonuses as/for 'emotional support'. Also, WHY FLY AT ALL - videoconferencing IS a thing, you know......?
Since Boeing acquired McDonnell Douglas and put Douglas executives in charge, things have gone downhill for Boeing. A simple solution is to fire current management and promote engineers to executive positions. Boeing is, after all, an engineering company. Moving out of woke and overpriced Everett would also be a positive step. Failing management in any case does not deserve business jets or any perks.
Hey Max - I was surprised to see one - let alone two! - videos from you on this today - this particular BS has been thoroughly debunked - it dates from a 2018 TED interview with the clueless COO - complete nonstarter on every level - business - regulatory - environmental - technical - safety - insurance - scheduling - routing - the level of stupidity involved makes it hard to know where to start! Regards Julian
What has aviation got to do with it? SpaceX Starship will go via space, and does not have any wings, so does not fly. (It does have some flaps, but they are used for drag, not lift.). In case you are not aware, yes it is serious, and SpaceX have a contract with the US military to do it for cargo and to study the possibly of passengers. Turn around of a Starship on reaching the destination is only about one hour, for a simple cargo. The last test flight actually went to Australia and landed off the coast.

I'm starting to like this new Boeing CEO already.
I think all boeing execs should have to travel on that aircraft with the missing door.. repaired by their highly trained staff.. honest..
When I did contract work for Boeing in the 1980s I was told that the company's executives didn't use private jets because that might irritate their primary customers-commercial airlines. I wonder when that policy changed.
When they stopped putting engineers as the executives.
CEO exhibits strong leadership! He needs to break the fat cat culture at the top of the Boeing food chain.

It’s like Walmart forces its executives to only shop at Walmart 🤣
Airplane manufacturer was sponsoring a horse show, genius. And they didn’t fly personally on their own aircraft. There’s no other way to put it, UFB.

I did love the intro !
OMG. that intro is fantastic!
Starship, new Air Force One.
🤣
Loved the SpaceX Advertisement. Hope it goes viral. Happy Birthday!
2 hours getting through security to arrive at a one hour flight around the world.
And the ferry trip and delays on launchpad for weather I have flown plenty in storms from Johannesburg the space ship has to have perfect weather
And you’d have to fly across the country just to get to whatever point it takes off from. And of course better not to think that 1 of 100 rocket launches on average ends in an explosion.

Starship for Ballistic Travel makes a lot more sense than Mars
True. But I do think some day as a cargo vessel on earth might work.
60 is the new 40, whatever that means. Looking good, Grandpa. Happy Birthday.
Go Kelly,
Tough times require sacrifice by all. That's what I call a real ceo..
Please Maximus - tell me your Starship-Musk-Rocket segment was satire right? You don't believe Musks fever dreams right? I hope so 😬
It’ll be hilarious when the SpaceX auto pilot doesn’t auto, and the ship just goes straight into space.
It won't have enough propellant to leave Earth orbit.
Far better than Boeing that goes straight into ground.
What’s hilarious about that?

Make the executives fly the mamas and the 787, you know the ones with problems! Maybe then maybe. Then executives might want to build safer planes!
The MAXes are the ones with problems. 787 has relatively small issues
Starship’s 1000 passenger plane ship is called “The HUB” or HUB, referring to the “hub and spoke” distribution of people and products.
