Boeing's last entirely new aircraft was the 787. It's a very good aircraft. A relative of mine flew with low cost airline Scoot between Australia and Singapore and said it was very good. Yet Scoot is an LCC providing only a seat, everything else is extra. If they do come up with a new design they have a record of good design. Then they have to overcome the manufacturing deficiencies.
@DjsAviation its shelved for now. obviously no cash to spend until probably late 2025 or into 2026. Hoping within the next 4 years it'll be announced and that work placement language is still in the new offer as well it just wasn't in the highlights the media ran with.
As far as I’m aware, Boeing has never talked about restarting 797 development since they put it on hold several years ago. All the recent buzz about it has just been rumors from outside Boeing.
They will figure it out eventually. Airbus had their major safety issues a while ago and figured it out so it’ll just take time but Boeing will figure it out.

The recovery of Boeing as a producer of innovative, safe passenger aircraft is a lot like their new 777x program. Riddled with years of delays and setbacks and ultimately will never happen.

Clickbait or not.... Boeing hasn't been able to successfully launch a new airplane since the merger with McD's back in the late 90's. Their problem is one of mismanagement and not anything related to the mechanics performing the work.
There are some workmanship issues, but the problem is when the issues are not corrected in sequence. Waiting until the airplane is assembled, only to push it outside in the weather to TEAR IT APART in order to correct issues drives up costs.
Simple - they need a 737 family in the same vein as A320. Just get on with it. But take time to ensure it is reliable and something they can build well

So Boeing has been delivering aircraft like crazy until the Max issue came up. The Max issue was more of a training issue than an aircraft issue. Besides the door blowout, how are all those hundreds of aircraft delivered over the last 10 years doing? They are doing fine. Yes they have issues but they can still fix those internal issues and keep producing safe aircraft. This morbid commenting is I feel a bit over the top.

I believe that until Boeing ditch their ancient single aisle fuselage and replace it with something capable of at least matching Airbus, their decline is assured. They also need to have compatibility accross the range in the way that Airbus do with their 3 series aircraft. Fortunately they have a brilliant template with the 787, and the possibility for a couple of scaled down fuselages, first the NMA, and then the decades overdue single aisle. Possibly even a scaled up version to replace the 777x when it is due to be replaced. Unfortunately, this is all reliant on a new generation if engines (also available to Airbus!) and a way to make composite fuselage construction as cheap, if not cheaper than metal, since the weight savings diminish exponentially as the fuselage diameter reduces (blame pi!) P. S. As for compatibility, I think that Airbus really need to address that with the A220 sooner rather than later, unless, they do not plan for it to have a long-term future.

Not really. The muscle nessesary for Embraer to pull that off simply isn't there. There's one company in the world that can pull it off (if they get their act together. Which remains to be seen...), and that's Boeing. Airbus is a multinational behemoth of a company, and you simply don't stand a chance as a little Brazilian manufacturer of business jets and a semi-failed regional jetliner. There has been 30 years between the 757-767 and the 777 and 787 but it does not have any airplane to compete against the A-220-300 which could be extended to a -500, a competitor against the 737MAX.

There is nothing to be gained by producing a new airplane using current technology - especially engine technology. We did ten years of mods on the new NGs and it would take too long to list. Rudder mod, elevator mod, corroding connectors, low overhand panel, tons of fuel related mods due to the explosions of these aircraft.
