- 2021 was one of the best Banger Racing seasons i've seen so far! Although the season started in June we have seen some huge hits and crashes and some of the wrecks were insane! Enjoy the video!
What is Banger Racing?
Banger racing is a tarmac, dirt, shale and chalk track type of motorsport event popular in countries such as the United Kingdom, Ireland, Belgium and the Netherlands. Old scrap vehicles are raced against one another, with the winner being the first to the checkered flag after a set number of laps. Contact to damage an opponent's car is permitted and encouraged within the formula, with cars progressively becoming more damaged throughout an event. Races are held at an oval or tri-oval circuits that are up to 1⁄4 mile (440 yd; 400 m) long; however, on certain occasions, races are held in a figure of eight configurations. Banger racing is often confused with stock car racing, although there are differences between the two, despite often racing at the same tracks. Banger racing is also often confused with Nascar.

I'm amazed these guys don't get serious head/neck injuries. I used to watch bangers a lot as a kid, but now that I'm older I can't help but wonder how these guys don't get badly injured.

They have drool cups trust me and this explains why English ppl and ppl across the pond have bad teeth they all do banger racing lol
Its much easier to cope with the knocks/impacts when you are younger,its later on in life when many start to feel the wear n tear.

I can't believe a 1973 Toyota Crown Coupe is dressed up for one of these races. Here in Australia, that car would be rebuilt around the VIN if need be, restored it's a 50k vehicle here :(

I imagine that the vehicles used for these kind of events are the worst samples that were found. So most people would think they aren't worth saving.
@@DatOneCat that’s not at all the case people use whatever lol. Here in the US we see all types of what coulda been amazing muscle cars turned into demo cars.
Maybe whoever entered that in didn’t understand the value of the car? That’s what I’m thinking.

Do you have banger racing over there? I never heard of anything when I was there a few years ago.
We really only have occasional demolition derby's which are usually part of the winged Sprintcar circuit (in NSW) The V8 supercars are considered the leading motorsport in Australia. We used to have the WRC but that was a few years ago. As far as I am aware, we don't have any established banger racing circuit. Cheers

Demo derbies are great, but, this is also really good. They're two different things.
I got fascinated in demolition derby’s when I played “Wreckfest”, everything just moved so fast, but I was disappointed when I saw what they actually performed like, banger racing is still good tho

@@AutorodeoNederland I've seen one pretty rare 262c if I'm not mistaken. This would be my pick I think :) But I wouldn't mind having a 244 or 850/V70. Of course in a pre-rodeo condition 😁
@@effyfil4277 yeah it was a 2 series bertone. Think around 15 of them have been raced. From the 2 series also the transfer, hearse and ambulance have been raced. I know someone also have a sedan limo which will be raced.

@@effyfil4277 is actually a race haha. First one to pass the checkered flag wins. Almost everything is allowed to stop others from racing except hitting drivers door. Thats pretty much it.

Came to check out what Banger Raci g is about, after playing some Wreckfest! Got to say, some fun looking stuff! Kind of like a mash-together of what we Americans have in Enduros and Demo Derby, but at high-speeds! Awesome stuff!

@Stan Brooks yeah covid and some problems with the municipality at Warneton i believe. The cant run meetings until the summer i believe. Yeah in the past it was a lot cheaper. You could buy a car and race the engine that was already in there but nowadays its so expensive...
@Stan Brooks if i have the chance i will go to all the banger meetings here so lets hope we have a few this year! Also hoping to do a few in the UK as well.

@@AutorodeoNederland I did one in Australia in the 80's. I'll never forget it. I won the derby. It's all luck and a bit of skill. It's nothing like this, mostly trying to drive backwards to save the engine etc.

These cars fold so much, all that rust build up makes them spectacular to see them bend so easily, thank god no one is injured

From the UK, closest track is Hednesford hills
I've seen a lot of cars snap especially when 444 followed 101 in a few days ago, the front end snapped and the driver was okay, the softer the cars the better for the drivers
@@kylebailey1969 i totally agree to that! Cars are getting to fast and hard nowadays. Hednesford is a cool track. Hope to visit it one day!
Yeah the only trouble is that incarace don't promote national bangers that much at Hednesford apart from civil war veterans day and the bws meeting, the rest is either 1600 cc bangers or back to basic ones which aren't as good
I hope a lot of the older ones are checked to be beyond the point of rescue

@@AutorodeoNederland we live by hednesford so any of the meetings there or brisca f1 at mildenhall looks awesome too. The hits look loads harder in netherlands what size are the tracks? They look bigger
@@612BaileyWRacedays well the civil war meeting is still on my list so hopefully i can go to that one sometime or a bws round! I hope to do the Kev Waller memorial weekender in 2022. Fingers crossed for that one! Dont know how long the tracks are but Warneton might be one of the longest banger tracks around. Think Emmen is a little bit shorter than Kings Lynn.

Oh my you cant beat you Dutch banger racing, that concrete track is the nuts and the hits, bonkers , love it, the drivers deserve more than the F1 drivers get, theyre overpaid poofs , banger races are insane heroes :-)
Its always a shame to see nice cars ending up in these kind of races :( lots of late 50's and early 60's american cars old jags some bentleys and rolls royces and also hearses that are custom made
banger cars are always worthless wrecks barely made functional to give them one last blaze of glory before the scrapyard crushes them.

Noticed an influx of Chrysler being used in these events lately. Especially the Chrysler 300. Also did I see a mk2 modeo? Seeing lesser and lesser Mk1 mondeos must mean they're running out
They are using the 300's yes. They are rock solid if built the right way.
Even mk4/5 types are already being used as the older mondeos are getting rare nowadays.

Cool clips. Strategy question - Why do cars keep deliberately crashing into cars that are already stopped on the side of the track? How does that help them win the race?

Ken iemand mij uitleggen waarom ze mooie en gewilde klassiekers gebruiken? Ik zie in de gouwigheid een Jaguar xjs , xj , Rolls-Royce silver shadow, Chrysler 300c . Kunnen ze niet gewoon schijthokken gebruiken ?
In principe zijn dit schijthokken. De klassiekers zijn meestal onbetaalbaar voor deze hobby tenzij door en door verrot of andere schade. Dan belanden ze hier. Het spuitwerk doet anders vermoeden maar daarachter is het niet veel meer.
Dat is dan wel zo ,maar soms worden er klassiekers aangeboden als project en die zijn dan ook in staat van ontbinding en worden alsnog verkocht en opgeknapt. Die Jaguars zullen wel inderdaad de nodige roest hebben , maar alles is Op te knappen. Een Jaguar xjs in slechte staat brengt alsnog meer op dan 5 Volvo v70’s. Die Chrysler 300c zal wel economisch Total loss zijn dgv alle elektronica die erin zit. Die Jaguars vindt ik echt zonde , doet gewoon een beetje pijn om er naar te kijken. Maarja jammer genoeg kopen ze zo’n ding en is het dus hun auto en kunnen ze er mee doen wat ze willen. Jammer genoeg kopen ze geen bmw’s , vw enz
@@ThaDutchDK1989 meeste banen mag je alleen achterwielaandrijving hebben. Dus dan valt er al veel af. Veel van die jaguars kosten maar paar honderd euro. Ze kopen vaak alleen maar het casco wat nog over is. Snap verder wel wat je zegt hoor. Soms zit er wel eens eentje bij dat je denkt die had ik wellicht wel voor op de weg gewild mja kunt moeilijk alles kopen.
Alleen het casco? Bedoel je dat ze de hele ophanging en motor van een andere auto gebruiken en passend maken ? Jezus dat is nogal werk . BMW’s en Opel omega’s zijn ook RWD😉 Zoeken ze het liefst auto’s van voor 1990 ivm de electronica zeker ? Heb misschien nog een Renault scenic staan uit 2001 (wel fwd en wat electronica)
